Saturday afternoon I took my cat to Value Pet Clinic, in Puyallup WA because of a reoccurrence of vomiting and blood and pus in the stool. Our regular Vet stated the next step would be either x-ray or ultra sound if this reoccurred if the three medications he prescribed did not work well. The clinic waiting room was fully packed, but after waiting “in your car because of the bloody stool” as instructed, we were finally seen. The Vet there recommend a treatment and x-ray, asked that I leave him for one hour, then pick him up. I did. I arrived for pick-up near closing time, and noticed (for the first time) a small sign accepting credit and debit cards, and then stating, “no checks accepted”. I told the receptionist that I had not seen the sign prior to being seen because of people standing about. She said I could not have the pet until paid. She suggested I go to my bank. I reminded her it was Saturday afternoon: my bank was now closed. She told me to wait a moment. A woman called us into the first exam room and as I opened my mouth to explain that I do not use debit cards or credit cards she stated rudely, “You can’t have your pet until we get our money. “ Her unprofessional start led me to call her bluff with my own. I stated, “Well considering I think he has cancer is dying, just keep him then”, She was not happy with my remark and became snotty – interrupting me so that I had to raise my voice over hers as I attempted to explain (as a nurse myself) that I have never been in a Clinic (medical or veterinarian) that did not verbally tell a client of a No Check policy on sign-in., their signs were poorly placed and small, there was nothing in bold print or circled to make it noticeable on the papers I filled out for my cat. As I was speaking she walked around me to close the door to the waiting room that was still open, but I chose to back up and leave it as it was, because she was becoming obviously agitated. I insinuated that no reputable clinic would fail to make this perfectly clear to new client. At this point she challenged my being an RN by asking, “You’re a nurse? Where do YOU work at? “ I answered the question of my historical expertise and said I could bring in cash on Monday, but she walked away bringing my cat in his leather carrier, literally dropped him on the metal exam table. “Here, take your cat and never come back.” No medication, no discussing his need with the Vet I had seen, nothing. I left. To be fair, the female Veterinarian was knowledgeable and seemed to care, but if a manager can withhold treatment because she failed to train her staff properly or put up adequately large signs in plain view (as well as on the door when one enters), I have to wonder if these Vets have free choice of what to order or do they suck you in with tests not needed (I had blood word from 4 weeks prior) that she wanted to do over At home I immediately documented the exchange. I looked up who the owner of the clinic was and hand delivered the account to his home early Sunday afternoon to whom I assume was his teen son. I stated I would like an immediate response to my complaint. Monday, afternoon I received a call. Not from the own (a Vet himself) but from the same manager who again was unprofessional. She did not state why she was calling; I had to guess. She then stated it was inappropriate for me to take the complaint to his home. I disagreed asked her to identify her source of etiquette information. She then began with, “ If you had not acted the way you did…” I said she had been the one acting unprofessionally”. “Let me give you some advise..” she shouted over me, whereas, I disconnected from her then phone the owners number and left a brief message as to this exchange. Apparently the owner does not care that his non-medical staff are ill trained, and the manager is highly Unprofessional. I suspect they attempt to bill be for $259.00, but my cat was abused and never received treatment.

Ive been to Value pets for multiple animals of mine, usually vaccinations but ive never had a problem before. Until Saturday Dec. 6th I made an appointment for my pit-bull mix to be spayed and micro-chipped ($163) Sunday I noticed my dog was peeing large amounts of blood, clots and dripping. After multiple attempts at researching and calling multiple emergency clinics I took her to Sumner 24 hour vet clinic. The next day, Monday, I took her back to Value Pets to have a urinalysis. Tuesday I go back and they tell me that after they did her surgery she some how manages to contract a UTI and needed a prescription of Clavamox ($109). While I was there I also asked them to take a look at her incision site because it had like an egg sized rock around it and seemed very red and irritated. The doctor told me to do hot water compressed to reduce the swelling (SEEMS ODD WHEN THEY TELL YOU THAT THE ADHESIVE THEY USE TO HOLD THE SITE TOGETHER IS NON-WATERPROOF) but I follow the care instructions and the next day i notice blood again. I lift her up and half of her incision is opened and she is bleeding. I instantly dressed the wound and called value pets. At this point obviously I was tired of dealing with them and I was not in my most polite state. The lady tells me to come in, I couldnt make it in time because they closed to early. The lady I talked to was extremely unhelpful, she basically just said "sorry maam theres nothing i can do for you".... well once again I returned to Sumner clinic where they told me that the doctor who examined her incision must have missed the fact that she was having an extreme allergic reaction to the adhesive they used to hold her together and the inflammation was pushing the two sides of skin apart making it bust open. They cleaned her wound and stapled it together and renewed her prescription for a pain pill to ease the discomfort. My dog is my baby and if i would have known that getting her fixed would take 5 vet visits and $346 I would have just taken her to a better quality vet. Shed be in far less pain and Id be way happier having gone somewhere else. The vet is okay for vaccinations but as for surgeries in my opinion they are incompetent . Just pay the little extra and go somewhere quality, your animal will appreciate it..

I have been taking my various babies here for years and years way before the change in name and owner. I was happy with the quality of care and price at the beginning but as the years went by the quality went down the drain. I took one of my pets for dental check up. Without even looking in the mouth the Dr guessed 8 teeth for extraction...mainly because my baby would not let anyone near. I questioned but I can not remember the weird answer but it was something like... it is just a guess because of age and it does not mean they will take that many. Yeah right! Once in the past they had extracted without my permission so I wrote in very big letters that they had to call me if any extractions where even considered. Never received a call. When I picked my baby I was shocked to find out teeth had been extracted. Yes, you guessed it.. 8 of them. The most extractions in the past was 3 and this time around the teeth did not even look close to how bad they were then. After I complained, sure enough they saw that the document had in big letters that I did not give permission unless I was called. The tech apologized, and then I asked for the teeth that were pulled... you see, in the past..I always recieved all the little teeth wrapped in tissue in a little bottle and they always look gnarly and diseased and rotten but it was always proof that they needed to be pulled. This was of course back in the old days by different people. You should have seen her face when I asked for them. I told her that 3 different times in the past I had received them. She paused and then said she would look for then. I knew then, I would not get them. Sure enough, few minutes later she said she could not find them. Why... because these teeth did not need pulling, maybe some but not all. My message to you is..... If you are dirt poor and can not afford going to a quality vet then by all means stick with this place but be informed and question everything! But, if you do have the money and your pets mean something to you, take them somewhere else where quality is high. Quality should be more important than price... again...if you can afford it.
