I would avoid this clinic. I took in my cat for vomiting, and the veterinarian prescribed a special diet as well as medication for pain management. When I was checking out, I was informed that they had run out of the pain medication and that a pharmacy that they work with would contact me shortly and get me the medicine the next day. The pharmacy never contacted me, and I had to take time out of my work to follow up with the clinic on three separate occasions. They kept telling me the pharmacy would call me and the medicine would come, but it never did. On the third occasion I was finally able to reach the pharmacy, and was informed that maybe I could get the medicine at 11pm and that it was 100$ extra. The staff at Heart of Brooklyn did not disclose this extra cost, since I had already paid for pain medication dispensed at the clinic. It wouldnt be a problem, but I expect clear communication with my care team, especially at this price. At this point, my cat was doing a lot better and no longer needed the pain medication. She was in pain for two days because Heart of Brooklyn did not have their medication stocked and did not follow up with the pharmacy. When you are paying $600 for a treatment, you expect to be treated well. I shouldnt have to follow up and hound the front desk staff for medication when I have paid that much. This is definitely not a clinic for busy professionals who do not have time to play secretary with the front desk staff. When I spoke to the clinic manager, I was horrified at her lack of professionalism. It made me wonder whether this person had any kind of professional training at all, since she did not know how to handle the situation and proceeded to argue with me instead of acknowledging the clinic could have done a better job. I told her that, unless I received some kind of gesture as a professional courtesy to apologize for this serious oversight, I would not be coming back and they would lose a patient. She responded: "thats fine." I wonder if the owner of the clinic thinks that "its fine." My guess is probably not. Avoid this clinic. At this price point you can get more professional service elsewhere. No complaints about the medical treatment. Dr. Pingle had a solid care plan for my cat.

I am writing this because it is so hard to find a veterinarian you can put your full faith in and it is a particular challenge in this very large city. This is an exceptional veterinary hospital. Its small, and thats wonderful. Everyone is loving and kind towards pets and people. Particularly the receptionist, Theresa, and the tech (cant remember her name) are great to interact with. That is exceedingly rare in any health setting in this city. I like that there is one veterinarian that you see everytime, and that he knows and cares about your pet. Dr. Farmer is thorough and sympathetic. He will spend as long as you need, answering every single question you have and more, so that you understand deeply any issues or treatment. We found out that our nearly five year old dog has hip dysplasia and intervertebral disc disease which are causing her a lot of pain. Shell probably have to be on some time of pain management for the rest of her life, but hes making sure we are understanding her issues as well as working with us to develop a treatment plan that will be as little invasive as possible. Over three visits, he has spent probably two hours going over every question we have, and made this whole thing much less scary. To be honest, I think his attentiveness may make him run a little bit late, but when you realize that you too are benefitting from this attentiveness, and that hes not going to rush you out of the room when you still have questions... thats really nice.

Dr. Farmer has been my primary veterinarian for over a year. I couldnt be more satisfied. The care is top-notch; Heart of Brooklyn feels like a small-town operation, where the animals are cared for like true members of the family and the vets take real time to make sure you understand their analysis. Dr. Farmer has seen my cat through two serious health issues, one which involved a very invasive surgery. In both instances, he and his team walked me through every single option and explained extensively in laymans terms what was going on medically with my cat. Dr. Farmer was conservative in his treatment plan, only performing necessary procedures and going day by day to ensure my cat (and my bank account) wasnt going though unnecessary turmoil. I truly know that Dr. Farmer loves and cares for my kitty. I trust his judgement, and he is patient, thoughtful, and caring. The emotional support he offers during the difficult times is not to be understated, either. Its refreshing to have a vet who will take the time to call you during his busy day, after hours, and days off to do his due diligence and offer his wise insight and counsel. I would recommend Heart of Brooklyn without hesitation.

I take both my 5 year old cat and my new kitten to see Dr. Farmer for all of their checkups and issues. Hes definitely the best vet Ive been to for several reasons. First, he treats your pet like the patient, not you! He spends a lot of time gaining their trust and making them comfortable. Ive never seen animals so calm at the vet. Secondly, he explains everything to you in detail and is very transparent. This goes for both conditions and costs. Thirdly, he is thorough. He doesnt just assume that treatments are working, but does the tests to make sure and give you peace of mind. Lastly, everyone there is very kind, calm and respectful! The office is organized and clean and its just a really nice change from hectic vets Ive been to in the past. I highly recommend Heart of Brooklyn!

really great lovely people and place but it was double what i expected to pay based on 10 years of visiting manhattan vets. I love my babies and will do what i have to, but over 1100 for two cats routine annuals with just two shots each (FLV and rabies) and one cats pre dental bloodwork should not cost anything like that. they also estimated over 1000 for the next prcedure, which my new vets pegged at 650. I have a very limited disposable income and that bill was truly appalling. My new vets couldnt believe the first one, they kept asking if my cats had been sedated or x-rayed. really upsetting.

It can be hard to trust a new vet with your beloved animal but Heart of Brooklyn was in such a convenient location compared to our old vet that we decided to check it out. And we are so happy we did!! Our dog, Leo, can be really jumpy at the vets office but after a couple visits he doesnt mind his check ups at all. They are personal and kind and even help us our by sending monthly reminders for his heartworm medication. We are so lucky they came to Fort Greene. Couldnt recommend highly enough!

My small 14 year old dog had a bad tooth abscess and poor teeth in general so Dr. Farmer suggested that her teeth all be removed. The procedure sounded worse than it actually turned out to be, thankfully. The whole operation, even with anesthesia and IV, went smoothly and she was home eating and walking by 7pm. Shes doing really well now and its good to know her chronic tooth pain is gone. The staff at Heart of Brooklyn and Dr. Bill Farmer are all excellent and kind. They do great work.
