I must drive by at least 10 vet offices on the 40 minute ride to Main Street Veterinary Clinic, including some within a few miles of my home. Unlike the feeling I get from other clinics that appear to put more emphasis on generating income, Dr. Stein is special indeed. Here are a few personal examples Ive experienced: 1) After taking my then 4 yr. Yorkie to a local vet for a routine check up, they noticed a slightly loose tooth and gave me an estimate of over $600 for the removal, the anesthesia, the possible over-night stay "just in case," plaque removal from the other teeth, as well as an unnecessary sense of urgency. This was the circumstance that prompted me to finally give Dr. Stein a try after my friend had highly recommended her. After personally speaking with me on the phone (the first good sign) I brought in my dog. Bottom line- $30 and plaque free teeth later I was on my way and knew Id never go to another vet again if I didnt have to. No unnecessary procedures (the tooth did not need to be removed), no over-kill, no attempt to churn up additional services, no false sense of urgency. Just a wonderful, caring, and competent lady. 2) As my cat approached the end of any quality of life I called a few places to see what I should do. I got the typical answers and prices for the various options- cremation, put her to sleep and take her home for burial, etc. Dr. Steins response- "I could never charge anyone to put their beloved pet to sleep." (Sorry doc, I hope you dont get a flood of calls for free services!) She simply loves animals and wants to do whats best. Granted, I was already a regular customer and would have paid whatever the fee, but this was a display of true caring in practice. Now all this said, if youre the kind of person who will be put off by Norton the pig snoring in the lobby or the various cats and birds around, then Main Street Veterinary Clinic isnt for you. But if you agree with me that there are just some attributes a great vet should have that simply cant be learned in veterinary school, then there is no where else to go!

I have been taking my old dog to Dr. Stein since moving into the area 5 years ago, and think highly of her practice. We go for routine vaccinations and other issues that arise. Her practice does have limited hours, and not a lot of fancy equipment. You could not call her an animal hospital. Her instincts about what troubles my old dog seem to be good, and when something comes up that might require x-rays or surgery, she explains my options and makes recommendations regarding other practices that can perform these procedures. I have to echo what the other reviewer said...She does not push unnecessary and expensive procedures like some practices do. (My jaw dropped for our first routine check-up/vaccination; it cost close to half of my previous vet.) Of course, for my old guy, Id pay more if I thought he would get better care elsewhere, and occasionally I have taken him elsewhere when he needed surgery, but we go back to Dr. Stein for the checkups and routine stuff.

DO NOT GO HERE. Let me just say that two of our cats died from the use of cheap vaccines applied improperly. We were never asked if we wanted the cheaper route, we were never informed of any, let alone deadly, side effects. I would not recommend this place to an enemy. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau. Please let every one know, two animals dead because of them.

Whenever I take my dog to see her, I am more than pleased with our visit. All vets should take lessons from her ... she truly loves animals!!!!!!!!!
