After being diagnosed with 2 DVTs in my leg stemming from a broken ankle, I was put on Lovenox injections under the strict order that I did not miss any. Due to an insurance mix-up, I was unable to fill the med and went without 3 shots. After speaking to the on-call Dr. in the ER, I was told to come in immediately and get the shot, and to let the front end know why I was there and what I needed. He said they should bring me right back. I did as I was told, as I was in severe pain at this point due to the clots and my leg and foot were swelling at a rapid pace. Once in the ER, the system broke down. On intake, I spoke of my conversation with the Dr. along with the severe pain, and I was told I had to "wait my turn." There were no seats in the waiting area. The triage nurse was allowing those with minor ailments in front of those with pulmonary, which directly contradicts the point of triage assessment. I checked in directly after one gentleman who seemed in severe distress from oral pain, and when he finally approached them with his complaints (albeit rudely), he was told that he was 27th in line, and if he didnt like it, he could leave. I implored them at this point, due to the swelling and pain and the risk of these blood clots traveling to my lungs and heart, to see me. I was told, yet again, that I needed to "wait my turn." I left after almost 3 hours of waiting. My husband drove me to Bassett hospital, where I was brought in immediately for evaluation. It was determined that I needed to be hospitalized, and I spent 3 days as an inpatient in Cooperstown. Within 3 days, the swelling and pain disappeared, and Bassett also gave me from their charity fund enough shots to get me through while my insurance was sorted out. I was told, legally, that they could not discharge me without knowing I had my medication because of the severity of my condition. Nathan Littauer, however, felt my condition was minor in comparison to the broken pinky I saw go ahead of me in the E.R. Im not even going to get into my first trip to the E.R. itself, after I was diagnosed with both blood clots. Needless to say, it was a ultimate mess between nurses and Drs and the clear lack of communication between them. My daughter was also held hostage of sorts when she was diagnosed with a mild case of pneumonia; she had no fever, needed no oxygen, no IV, and was doing well after a night on injection antibiotics. Pneumonia, unless severe, doesnt require hospitalization and her case was caught very early and was quite minor. However, her pediatrician at NLH recommended we admit her to get her testing done quicker. After receiving the shots, she was doing phenomenally so I requested that we bring her home to heal on oral antibiotics (as is protocol in these cases) and the Dr. threatened to call CPS on me although she was medically stable. I fought back and told him that I would be signing her out AMA at 5pm, and that if they felt that strongly that she wasnt able to go home, feel free to call CPS. At 4:50, the nurse came in to administer her last shot, and told me the Dr. had released her. It was an awful experience, to be threatened with no good cause. I would not recommend this hospital.

Worst hospital ever. Had to go to the emergency room. They ran some tests without telling me what they were doing. Then 2 hours later a woman comes in claiming she "has my walking papers" and then told me to go home and take it easy. Later I was billed for all kinds of tests that I was unaware they ran and no one ever gave me the results of. My insurance was baffled because there were no charges for a doctor consultation. I told them that is because I was never seen by a doctor. Blood was drawn and I believe an xray was had and then no information if there was something wrong. Ive received bills from the hospital but when I call the billing department to dispute them they tell me that they dont handle issues with the billing. WTF??? There is some performance review department headed by a woman named Diane who does not return calls and another woman that only takes messaged for her. I have been trying to get in contact with this person for 2 months. The billing department has emailed her to contact me ASAP but still nothing. I called back to ask if there is a performance review department that over sees this performance review department, but unfortunately on account of redundancy there is not. They told me I could reach out to the administration.......what a surprise.....only more people to leave messages for. The only thing more incompetent than the service provided by this hospital is the staff in place to ensure its competency.

Terrible ER in this hospital. Had the displeasure of dealing with the same doctor I had a negative experience with a few years back. This visit, I went in with chest pains. Sadly I had the doctor who is rude and has no bedside manners. After all testing was done and results returned to the ER (I know this because the nurse let me know when they came back), i waited over five hours for this doctor to come back and let me know what was wrong. He never did. I was given the excuse that he had a patient that had a serious issue and he had to take care of it since he is the only ER doctor at the moment. All well and good but in five hours he could have found five minutes to let me know what was going on with me. Obviously the hospital does not want to spend the money to provide proper staffing to handle all the patients. One doctor (and clearly the rudest one they could find) for the emergency room is ridiculous and dangerous. I will never go to this hospital again and encourage anyone in the gloversville area to go to Amsterdam (St Marys) if you need emergency care.

The emergency room service is terrible. I took my wife there recently because she was having a very hard time breathing. Just tying her shoes would make her out breath. The nurses hooked her up to a heart monitor machine and then left. We stayed there for almost two hours watching nurse after nurse pass by her without coming back to her. Nobody re-checked her or the machine. They didnt take any blood tests. Nobody even walked by every so often just ask how shes doing or give us reassurance that a doctor was coming or even an explanation on what was taking so long. Almost two hours it seemed like they just hooked her up and forgot about her. My wife finally got fed up and signed herself out and of course the nurse said the doctor was going to be there in five minutes. Yea, right. I ended up taking her to St. Marys where she got prompt and thorough treatment. Id go back to St. Marys any day over Nathan Littauer.

I would not recommend Nathans. Went in because I had a terrible headache and an even worse cough, they said Id be fine a gave me a prescription for cough suppressant. Went back 3 days later with an aggressive case of pneumonia. It took them an hour to give me an IV. Once I could move, they gave me an X-ray. My lungs were 95% full of bacteria and fluids. They told me that it was a good thing I went when I did, and that I probably wouldnt have woken up the next day. Then they perscibed me an antibiotic and finally sent me home at 1am WITHOUT ANTIBIOTICS OR AN OPEN PHARMACY! Good thing my mother was there and demanded that they gave me medication before going home. The nurse was very upset, stormed off and brought back what I needed and a pain killer so strong that it needed to be taken with food (which she didnt tell me). I spent most of the night struggling to not throw up because of the medication.
