Everyone makes mistakes and if the office had taken responsibility for their error I would not be writing this review. The office staff was to send a referral to my dermatologist. I requested this a week before my appointment and even called later that same day and was told that the referral had been sent. So thinking I had done all I needed to do, I took off work for the afternoon to visit my dermatologist. Upon my arrival, the dermatologist office informed me that they had never received the necessary referral. And since it was Wednesday, and Dr. Balot’s office is closed on Wednesdays, I was unable to rectify the situation so this cost me time and money. I physically went into Dr. Balot’s office the following day (more time and money) and first, the front desk person blamed the dermatologist stating “Why didn’t they just look in the system?” As a patient, I could not know why they didn’t “look in the system” or even what the “system” is. I am the patient, not the doctor’s office. Then, they were unable to locate my file. After a long wait and much rustling around they took the referral information a second time from me. The referral was obviously lost in the clutter around the office somewhere with my file. If the staff had lost time and money over someone’s error, I think they would have been upset as I was. But the front desk person just flippantly told me to “relax.” I guess she has never lost time or money over someone else’s error. I will be hand carrying the referral in to the dermatologist this time. It might actually arrive that way. And THAT will help me to “relax.”

I became a patient of Dr. Balots after my primary doctor "sold out" and joined a group where when you called to make an appointment it was a "call center" where I was expected to leave a message and wait 2 hours for a call back. When 4 hours went by I went to a City MD office to be seen and get the prescriptions I needed (I have asthma and every cold goes to bronchitis with a cough for months if not treated immediately). Four days later my doctors office calls me back and says they can see me next week. After that experience I decided it was time for a change. I did my research and Dr. Balot has been named a Top Doctor in Internal Medicine for many years. At the time he had a solo practice (his son has since joined the group) which concerned me a little but those concerns quickly went away when 2 days after my appointment I got a call with my test results at 7pm on a Saturday night. What Dr. calls patients on a Saturday night? NOT the Drs who have become EMPLOYEES to a medical group because in their minds they are not paid unless they are on the clock. I knew I made the right choice with choosing Dr. Balot. Sometimes there is a little bit of a wait because the office takes sick visits and when a patient is in the ER or hospitalize, he takes the calls to ensure patients get proper care. Your heath is a partnership with your Dr and most reviews that are negative I didnt feel the patient was a good "partner" to the office.
