I would like to start by saying that I am in complete shock of how unprofessional Mr.Guzman conducts his business. I have never in my life been treated and humiliated by an egotistic individual that can’t satisfy a customer’s needs and uses their weakness against them. This nightmare starts off by my mother retiring to Ecuador and needed assistance with an international certificate and vaccines in order to fly with her Chihuahua Simba. The initial visit to Mr. Guzman’s office was on January 23, 2015. We were advised that Leptospirosis was a vaccine that Simba needed and the second shot would be applied once he arrived to Ecuador. Maria his office manager started the paperwork once the consultation was finished. Maria advised us that she never did paperwork for Ecuador and that this was her first time. I immediately knew that there would be a problem since it was her first time. I stayed quiet and just went along with what they were doing and stayed quiet, which was my first mistake. January 25, 2016 My mother goes to JFK Vet Port services to obtain the international certificate and is denied because Simba is unable to fly. The problem here was that due to the Leptospirosis shot the canine is unable to fly for a period of 21 days. I immediately reach out to Mr. Guzman’s office and advise him there is a problem. I am of course very upset because this piece of essential information was not disclosed to me on the day of the visit. Dr. Guzman lacks ethical moral because he would not admit his mistake. He advised me that both him and I know that the customer is not always right! Business 101, the customer is always right! Maria asked me if I called the consulate of Ecuador. I asked Maria “why are you asking me this now and not when the initial appointment was set up??”. Mr. Guzman misled me to believe that he and his staff were knowledgeable of what they were doing and I paid close to $400.00 for his services. February 2, 2016 My mother visits the office for the second Leptospirosis shot and for the re application of ticks and parasites. Mr. Guzman was so upset that he gossiped about the situation for an hour instead of attending to the services that is being paid for. Maria tried to say something but my mom ignored her. Maria as she walked out of the said” I see it runs in the family”. February 18, 2016 My mother visits again so the documentation can be filed out to present to JFK vet port services. Mr. Guzman now has advised his staff that in order for him to be able to fill out the documentation I would have to apologize to him. I was in complete shock when I spoke to Dolly who works there and advised me this. I felt that Dolly was upset and I asked if she was mad and she said “no, calm your hormones” 3 times. I immediately went to see Mr. Guzman to speak to his staff and found him at the office. He went ranting about things that had no importance and obviously could see his frustration. How can a so called doctor knowing my mother’s flight is on February 24, 2016 decide last minute not to fill out the documentation because he needed an apology? He denied service and had to see another doctor and once again had to pay for a physical and to re fill the proper documentation. February 19, 2016 My mother visits JFk vet port services. Apparently Mr. Guzman applied the ticks and parasites treatment too early on the February 2, 2016 visit. He was already advised by the doctor at JFK that it needs to be done within 21 days. So now we have to see another vet to reapply the ticks and parasites and pay again for his mistakes. I am a business major and all I can say is that he conducts an unethical practice in which he misleads his clients. Please don’t ever bring your dog here because in reality he is not the Saint of animals. This man only cares about the money and his ego clearly. The other two doctors called him childish and unprofessional.

It really concerns my some of these reviews about assisi veterinary. My experiences have been nothing but good. I feel like these people have nothing better to do than complain. Everytime you go in they make you aware of the prices by giving you an estimate at least in my case that has always been. THe receptionists are phenomenal!make me feel like family and they love my "hogie" He hates the vet but they mush him to death there.Let me share my experience: Awesome place!! I have moved several times and have had my share of vets but when i recently moved to the area many people recommended Assisi to me as a primary vet. I didnt have to use them until my cat ran out of the house and came back mangled. It was late at night and near their closing time and friendly receptionist calmed me down and told me to come in right away. Bloodwork and xrays were done on the spot and started on IV pain medication. They stayed open for me and treated my cat with compassion. What relieved me the most is the Dr. Guzman gave me many options in treatment and was up front with me regarding cost. I really didnt want to leave him overnight by himself so one of the technicians offered overnight care. I gladly accepted as it comforted me that my "Hogie" would have his own nurse giving around the clock care. I even had the nurse call me throughout the night and give me updates regarding his condition as I was not going to be sleeping anyway. He stayed for two days and was able to take him home. Upon leaving what i believe was the whole staff saying goodbye to by baby one by one. Apparently he won their hearts too!! I will continue to use Assisi as my vet!! Dr Guzman and Dr. chen are wonderful!!! I spoke with a Dr. Granzin once regarding lab results and she seemed really nice and super informative!! Love the place super clean and super friendly!!!

I picked up a dog called Maddie from them, pulled by Second Chance Rescue owner is Jennifer Brooks. Maddie was pulled from Manhattan Animal Control Center. SCR had her checked out by Dr. Guzman. They were worried about her eyes, he gave her a green light for me to take her. Didnt bother putting on the papers that she had a temp of 102.7. How did I find out, after I called him and asked. NOT ACCEPTABLE. FILE OUT PAPER WORK CORRECTLY. I had her hospitalized 2 days later for several days and then again shortly again that. Maddie struggled to breath, Blood coming from her nose. My other dogs all became infected. This was not kennel cough. It was a SEVERE LUNG INFECTION WITH ALSO A SEVERE SMALL INTESTINAL INFECTION. This cost me thousands of dollars, with almost losing one of my dogs, Brownie that has never been sick, he had to be hospitalized. I have the release papers, not filled out correctly. WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD.

Assisi is a wonderful hospital that is full of a loving, experienced staff. Extremely clean, AAHA certified facility that meets the needs to its patients and the staff goes above and beyond to give each individual 100% of their efforts. My dog was very sick with a pyometra (is a secondary infection that occurs as a result of hormonal changes in the females reproductive tract) and Assisi Staff stayed after hours to perform emergency surgery on my pup. Dr. Guzman and his techs treated her like one of their own, nursed her back to health and now she is better than ever. Every person i have recommended to come to Assisi has been very pleased and has been a loyal client since. If you love your pet and want people to love and care for them as much as you do, take them to Assisi.
