Im disabled. Harrison will give a 25% discount to anyone on SSI. Its not worth it. Not even close. The first time I took my dog here it was for cherry eye. They gave me an estimate on the surgery, including several things I didnt think were necessary (they insisted on cleaning his teeth while he was under). They also made me pay on my credit card the high end estimate of the surgery BEFORE it happened, under the assumption it would actually cost more than the estimate. If it cost less, they assured me, they would refund the difference. My dog came through ok, but the price was a bit less than quoted, say around $30. They were SHOCKED (no, I mean seriously shocked) when I mentioned the refund. Surely, they said, Id want to donate it to the hospital? I tried to explain that I was disabled, and $30 is still a lot of money to me. Finally, very grudgingly, they told me they would mail me a check for the difference. That was in September of 2009. Im still waiting. I adopted a shelter cat not long after. He came down with severe kennel cough and was dehydrated. The subcutaneous shot they gave him was supposed to feel "a little cold", but he started screaming and leaping the moment they put the needle in. They had 2 people hold him down! I was horrified and got him out of there, to a proper vet. When done properly he was not thrilled with the needle, but he was calm and steady as they gave him fluids. My dog collapsed yesterday. I thought I had no choice - with very little money Harrison was my only option. When I called up to make the appointment, instead of asking me about my dog the woman who answered the phone started demanding facts about my income. How many live in the house? Whos name is the electric bill under? Do you have a cell phone bill? Who owns your property? I finally said "Did I mention I have a very sick dog?" Her reply? "Yeah, but its been a year since we recertified you, so I have to bug ya." Then she started demanding my electric bill again. When I asked why she explained that it was for financing purposes. I tried to explain that I didnt want financing options, and I had never even mentioned it. "Well, you might have!" was her reply. Then, even though she had my chart right in front of her and knew I was on Disability (that was why she was doing a "recertification") the last thing she demanded was that I bring in my "paycheck stubs". All this, and she never once mentioned my dog except to ask his name. But she did tell me that the only appointment available was at least two days away. I hung up and took my pup to Maxfunds low cost walk in clinic. OMG what a difference. They were kind, compassionate. They saw him immediately and yes, hes in kidney failure. But were not sure how bad. The test results will be delivered promptly and theyll call to work on an action plan for him. Night and day. If money is an issue, or even if its not. If you care at all about your animal run away FAST from Harrison. Get over to Maxfund.

I originally went Harrison for emergency treatment for my dog, I felt the vet was very kind and caring and the bill was definitely less than any other vet would have charged. Unfortunately on my next visit the vet was to lazy or arrogant (not sure which) to come out and talk to me, a student took my dog to the back for the exam with the vet then came back to tell me what the Vet said, I never met the Veterinarian. They also gave me an estimate for a dental clean with blood work (no extractions) that was just over $600, I would consider this an outrageous price for any vet but a non-profit that is suppose to help low income people, really? I volunteered with HMAH only to be told by a staff member that the Vet that cared for my dog which did pass away was considered to be incompetent and had very questionable treatment decisions, not a great thing to hear and very unprofessional for staff to talk about there own doctors in such a way. I had been a supporter of HMAH by volunteering, donating services and items on theyre wish list but it seems they have lost sight of the purpose to help low income people. Their attitude is more suited to a high end Cherry Hills vet and it shows in the way the phone staff treats you when you call and the Vet that cant take the time to actually meet a dogs owner.

HARRISON ANIMAL HOSPITAL WAS AWESOME WITH US!!! THEY SAVED MY BIG GUY TWICE, HE HAD GOTTEN PARVO AS A PUPPY & THEY SAVED HIM, I WAS AMAZED, SINCE PARVO IS PRETTY MUCH A PUPPY KILLER. THEN WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 2 HE BROKE HIS COLLAR OFF CHASING A STRAY CAT ACROSS THE LOWELL BLVD @ RUSH HR & WAS HIT , HIS BACK LEG WAS LITERALLY SHATERED. WHEN I SAW THE X-RAYS I HONESTLY THOUGHT THEY WOULD HAVE TO AMPUTATE, A PLATE, A ROD & 8 PINS LATER THEY SAVED HIM AGAIN!!! GRANTED, COSTS WERE SLIGHTLY HIGH, BUT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE AMOUNT I WOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED ELSE WHERE BUT THEY WENT BY MY INCOME & LET ME MAKE REASONABLE PAYMENTS. I WAS SO THANKFUL!!! ITS BEEN OVER 11 YEARS & MY BIG GUY(TONIC) IS 2 YEARS GONE NOW, I CANT REMEMBER THE NAME OF HIS DR, IV LOOKED FOR HER CARD BUT CANT LOCATE IT. SHE WAS SO FANTASTIC & IM SO GREATFUL SHE WAS THE ONE WHO CARED FOR HIM!!! I SEE THAT HARRISON IS UNDER A NEW NAME & I NOW LIVE IN COLORADO SPRINGS & WISH LIKE CRAZY THAT THIS TOWN HAD A PLACE LIKE HARRISON. HOPEFULLY ITS STILL THE SAME AS IT WAS WHEN I WAS GOING THERE!!! THANK U ALL FOR GIVING ME THE YEARS I HAD WITH THE BEST MAN IN MY LIFE!!! (MY BIG GUY (TONIC))! Most Thankful B. CURTIS!!!

These folks may have been good years ago, but things have changed. I was sent to Harrison by a friend who worked closely with them years ago as a volunteer. I brought my older cat in for weight loss among other problems. The receptionists are not knowledgeable at all, and neither are the vets I encountered. I called them about behavioral and eating habit changes in my cat for months, which they repeatedly snuffed off as her being a spoiled cat. I insisted on bringing her in because she had lost so much weight. Without running any tests that could provide an accurate diagnosis they told me she had cancer and prescribed medications without explaining any of the possible side effects. After taking my cat home and giving her the pills they sent me home with she took a turn for the worse. When I called about her sudden decline they told me it was the cancer killing her. I took her to another vet who said without further testing and a biopsy there is no way to know if she has cancer. This vet also told me that they had my cat on a dangerously high dose of particularly toxic medication. Stay away from Harrison Memorial if you love your animals and you want to keep them healthy!
