My first experience with the spay / neuter clinic was great - which is why I have continually used it for foster pets ever since. I took two of my own pets to be spayed; a very large dog and a year-old cat. I chose to take them rather than send them on the transport so that I could see the clinic for myself, and also so I could take them home the same day. When we arrived, the clinic was clean, and the staff was friendly. We dropped off my furkids, and then waited for the call to pick them up. Later in the day it came, so we went and got them. The girls seemed to be doing fine, so we went home, care sheets in hand. Contrary to what the anonymous, lower-star reviews might suggest, neither of my girls were missing nipples. I was told to keep a close eye on my dog, because shed just come out of heat, and there are sometimes complications with surgeries done at that time. I watched her closely, and after a few days, she was not springing back like the cat. In fact, she was quite lethargic. So I called the clinic, and they had me bring her in. They checked her out and then put her on an IV for a few hours, and she was good as new. They did not charge me for the extra care. She had no other issues after that. I have since used the clinic for many foster animals. I always send the fosters on the transport, and they always come home the next day in great shape. I recommend this clinic to everyone. It is something that we desperately need here. Low-cost and quality care - it doesnt get any better than that.

Last year I was lucky enough to become a mom to feral female kitten and 2 weeks later a stray male kitty wandered into our yard. Worried about funds, I chose to have the male neutered first. He was done by a local vet and afterwards I found out about Alabama Spay and Neuter. I brought my female in last February to be spayed. All the arrangements were made by telephone and we brought her to the local pick up site where the "Ship to Snip" van took her ( along with many others) to the animal clinic in Irondale. The volunteers were wonderful in caring for our animals and loading them gently onto the van. We also got a call after the surgery to let us know that Gracie was resting and doing fine. We picked her up the following morning along with her medication. She lounged around a few days and within a week was back to her old happy frisky self! I recommend that everyone spay and neuter and I wholeheartedly recommend Alabama Spay and Neuter. There are occasional specials which help with the already low prices as well as special discounts available to those who can show financial need. Even if you dont have a pet that needs to be fixed, I ask that you make donations to help ease the burden on others. I myself added a $5 donation to the already low price just so I could help another in need. No amount is too little! Great place, great people, and best of all, great program to help our pets live a healthier happier life while not adding to the overwhelming population!

Well, after much deliberation and time trying to decide if I should take my animals here, I went ahead and took two female dogs and 1 female cat. I chose this place because of the difference in cost compared to my normal vet. First, the person that took down my info got everything wrong. Im glad someone called to confirm the day before because they only had me down to bring in one dog, not two dogs and one cat. I repeated my info at least twice to the guy setting my appt, so Im not sure what the problem was. Second, when I got there, the tech couldnt pick up my dog (I dont know why; she only weighed 40 pounds) so I had carry her to the back. As I turned the corner, a couple other techs were violently shoving another poor dog into its cage and slapping the dog on the nose very hard to try to get it back inside the cage. They all stopped and got quiet when they saw me watching. Third, two of my cats nipples are cut off. When I took her out of the carrier she had blood caked all over her stomach. This wasnt just a nick; they are GONE. And the smell in this place is horrible. I know they probably do hundreds of surgeries each week, but missing nipples and abuse are not excusable. They need to slow down just a bit, pay more attention, and have more patience. If you have lots of animals and just cant possibly afford a vet, this would be the place to go. But if its a very beloved pet, dont even think of bringing them here.

This place USED to be awesome. We had taken a dog over a year ago. Now, MANY changes and not for the better. Took a very docile cat who was used to going to the vet. Picked up a bobcat that has problems going to the vet now. Becomes intolerable. The vet says he believes he was not treated well here, because of the change in the cat. This place now has rigid rules too that are ridiculous. Everyone is instructed to drop their pet off at the same time, and the place is not on time, so everyone gets to wait in long lines. Then EVERYONE again is instructed to pick their pet up at the same time, so again, we wait while a generic announcement is made on how to treat your pet afterwards. No personal touch AT ALL! They brought my cat with a sheet thrown over the cage because in their opinion all cats like the dark after surgery. The cat was livid and sounded like a bobcat. Once i got to the car with him and removed the sheet, he was calm again. My guess is he stayed under a sheet for a long time and had become quiet angry not knowing what was going on around him. I would pay 5 times what I paid here to not take another pet here. Skip it and let your pet have a normal good environment where they and you get individual attention. You wont here!

I have a male rescue puppy Redbone Coonhound / Am. Staff Terrier. I had him neutered a few months ago at AL Spay Neuter. The whole process went perfectly from the time I checked him in that morning until I picked him up that afternoon. I was told to keep his activity low for a week, but he was so unaffected by the procedure that he was trying to run the day after. He never once seemed bothered by his incisions or the procedure. While this clinic serves anyone who wants to fix his/her pet, this clinic is especially an excellent place for those persons who cannot afford a more expensive private vet spay neuter or who are intimidated by going to a private vet. There are many pets who would otherwise not be fixed if not for the existence of AL Spay Neuter. This is not a place for regular vet care such as shots and exams. It is a place that specializes in lower cost spay neuter of dogs and cats - a service that is crucial and fills a gap that regular vet practices cannot provide.
