If you love your pets, I strongly recommend avoiding this place. I normally dont write reviews like this but I would hate for anyones pets to be harmed because their health isnt CVAHs primary concern. For my last visit I took my cat in because she threw up grass but then ate her breakfast and was playing/acting normally...but I wanted to be sure. They brought me out a $900 bill and told me she needed x-rays, full blood work-up, an overnight stay, a catheter, plus two injections and take-home medications. When I asked why this was necessary, I was told "I didnt want to ask the doctor because he might get offended." When I asked what they were looking for with $300 blood work, I was told "We dont want to tell you because you might Google it and scare yourself." I paid $450 of the bill and got two second opinions who told me Id been sold on unnecessary treatments. CVAH intentionally over-treats to make money and will not attempt to justify it. Also, Ive been going there for over a year and got blood-work done twice - both times I had to call 3+ times over the course of a week to get a response. Please consider Canyon up the street instead. Also - please note that they were closed and recently reopened under new ownership. Other vets in the area have told me the turnover from this place is really high.

Our lab threw up multiple times and acted very lethargic, so we had to take him to Dr. Brar to get him seen. The x-rays have shown that he ingested a foreign body, so we were given two options -- (1) to leave the dog under their care overnight and wait until the next day to see if this will just pass through his system, then well find out what the next course of action is or (2) surgically remove the foreign body immediately. He recommended Option 1 and did not push for surgery, unless it becomes medically-necessary. Dr. Brar explained the situation very thoroughly, answered all our questions very patiently, and kept us well-informed during the entire time that our dog was under his care. My husband and I are very impressed and thankful to have found Castro Valley Animal Hospital. This excellent level of care is unparalleled, and we have not experienced anything close to the level of service they provide! I highly recommend everyone to consider Dr. Brar to be your pets primary care provider, and you and your pets will experience an excellent level of care that you deserve. His rates are very reasonable, and they are open until 10pm everyday, including Saturday and Sunday, which is great especially for people like me who work until 6pm.

These folks have been our vets ever since they were the closest place open at 8:00 p.m. on New Years Eve shortly after they opened, when our cat needed urgent care for vomiting and impaired breathing. Not only were they open, they stayed open later than usual to go over everything they were doing and to make sure we understood all the tests. Our cat is fine now, and we have brought every other pet we have to them -- they are uniformly welcoming, kind, compassionate, responsive, and thoughtful, and go out of their way to make sure we understand what theyre doing and exactly what the tests mean. Theyve nursed our cats through poisoning, dog-bites, influenza, and infections, and provided all the initial care and neutering for a feral and her kittens that we rescued. They are excellent at making sure we understand all our options and the advantages and disadvantages associated with them; they never press us for unnecessary testing but they are very supportive of our desire to make sure we are doing the right thing for our animals at all times. The care they provide is excellent -- both the care they provide to our animals, and the compassion and support they provide to us when were distressed. I cant recommend them strongly enough.

Im the last person you should have asked to write a review for you. I will never ever ever return to your office. My friends puppy was hit by a car and was seriously injured and I had to be dropped off at the vet by a sheriff had no money or anything on me and I needed to get a ride to my car to get my purse and the vet made me take my screaming puppy with me. He said "he would not see her until I had money to pay upfront. I could not believe that he could be so cruel. I ended up leaving her just so I could go right up the street and he ended up calling the police on me. I came right back to find the police there. I paid $400.00 dollars to find out she was going to have to be put down. The vet wanted another $150.00 dollars to put her down and I didnt have it and he ended up calling animal control on me for neglect. I had given him every dime i had and it wasnt even my puppy so I hardly neglected the puppy.

The hours are great and you can always get an appointment but I didnt have the best experience. After seeing a vet there, I got a prescription for my cat. When it later came time to renew the prescription, I had the hardest time getting the same prescription. The receptionist told me I didnt have to see the vet again and could take care of getting a new one. Each time they sent a prescription it was missing information. I had to call several times to fix it each time and told them what was missing. She later told me it wasnt their job to indicate a strength for the prescription. That the pharmacist would decide. What? Doctors decide the strength for a patient and I needed to get the ball rolling on this prescription for my cat two weeks ago earlier!

The employees (I believe is only comprised of 2 people) seem a bit scattered sometimes, and I always feel like I am their only "customer". Theres never more than 1 car in the parking lot and never anyone else there, so I dont know how many patients they actually have. They are very reasonable, and can almost ALWAYS see dogs on short notice. For that reason, I am incredibly thankful to have found this place when my dog had dangerous wounds. Although the vets indian accent is hard to understand sometimes, my dogs conditions have always 100% healed when I followed his advice. I will continue to bring my dog here even though they are a bit further away. THANK YOU CVAH!!!

I took my toy poodle there while on vacation because he developed a rash.while I was in the exam room waiting for the vet,I overheard the vet tell his staff in the back that they are not doing enough lab tests and wanted them to push it all the time.I was horrified to hear that and wanted to go elsewhere but the vet told me that he will still charge me exam fee even if I did not get an exam because I wasted his time.I paid his fee but did not let him touch my dog and went to the clinic just up the street. What a horrible man and what a bad rip off for poor clients. Please do not go there.

My Maine Coon 2 yr old male was in renal crisis when this fabulous hospital was recommended to me by a wonderful sales rep who works at Unleashed in San Leandro. This was a Sunday morning and I was given an appt. immediately and seen within 1hr of calling. As a retired RN I was most impressed by the professionalism, knowledge and excellent care by the vets there. I plan to use this hospital for regular care of both my Maine Coons going forward. I am impressed that the hours of operation are open 7 days a week from 8am to 10pm .
