I see that some people have written unfavorable reviews about their experience with Dr. Tang and her practice. Of course, its always possible. I thought I had a similar experience early on, when I consulted Dr. Tang about getting new glasses, which Id worn since I was five years old. I was already considering having Lasik surgery, but went ahead and ordered the glasses and when I changed my mind and contacted the practice a day or so later to let them know I didnt want the glasses and wanted to move forward with Lasik surgery, I was told that the lenses had already been made and that the cost couldnt be refunded. I was angry, not with Dr. Tang or her staff, but with myself for having waffled. Dr. Toomy performed my Lasik surgery, which was complicated by the fact that I have herpes, and it has been a life changing experience, for which I have Dr. Tang to thank for encouraging me to have it done. She has been my optometrist since 2005 and has always been a consummate professional. So, be advised and heed what I say. Theyre your eyes. Its important who you entrust them to.

I have had contacts for 12 years and glasses for 15 years and have had plenty of eye exams. NEVER have I been charged separately for a contact exam and glasses exam when done at the same time. Generally the contact exam is more expensive but includes and eye glass exam. My insurance covered the eye glass one ($100) and they charged $120 for the contact exam on top of that. The exam costs more the worse your eyes are - absolutely ridiculous! She also had me try Proclear contacts for astigmatism saying they were the best ones for breathability - switching from my usual Acuvue Advance. She charged $80/box of 6 one month disposables and they are the WORST contacts Ive ever had (Ive tried multiple types of Acuvue & Focus brand lenses with no problems). They dry out very fast and get protein deposits. To top it all off the receptionist was extremely rude and slow. Unless you want to pay twice as much as necessary for a good eye exam, do NOT go here.

Caring and thorough. I have been to a good share of optometrists. Dr. Tang has been the most careful and by far the most patient with me. As a result, my prescriptions have been better than any other optometrist Ive seen. I have also tried to get frames cheaper on-line and I could not beat their prices. I have never had insurance issues, and have never questioned the honesty and integrity of this establishment. When I saw some of the comments from the negative reviewers, I wondered if maybe there wasnt one person who is posting false comments against Irvine Optometry. I was right. I found the same exact complaint several years before (2009) a later one (2011)--the details were too close to be a coincidence. Try googling Irvine Optometry Dr. Tang (no quotes) and you will see the pattern as well. Dont be swayed by what is obviously one very disturbed individual (perhaps a rival establishment), trying to smear this good doctors reputation.

I have been to Dr. Tang for years now, and have been completely satisfied every time. She takes time with the eye exams, and always explains everything to me. Her mother works for her in the frames selection area, and has always helped me pick out a frame first try that fits the shape and size of my face. I highly recommend Irvine Optometry to others. Looking at a few negative comments below, I am shocked. I have never had a long wait for an appointment. I tried Lens Crafters once for my sons new frames/lenses, because I saw a special in the window. It did not turn out to be a good deal once I added in the normal protections for the lenses (anti glare, non scratch, etc.). Big mistake. I will always get the glasses at Dr. Tangs from now on.

This place overcharged me for two pair of glasses. First they had to redo my glasses with the progressive lens 2x, and that was just the first pair which were the sunglasses. Second, they charged me to change the frames and i waited so long that they mailed me my new pair which have caused me eye pain and trouble as they are hard to view out of the lower part of the glass so badly, that i dont where them. The staff are not professional in helping pick out frames. And worse of all they mailed me the wrong frames and wouldnt correct either of theyre mistakes! Total cost to me $1600.00. I do NOT recommend this place unless you have spare money to throw out. :(

Dr. Tang is detail-oriented, and takes time to do a thorough eye checkup. Her nurse or the lady who did initial eye checkup, was also very nice and thorough. I felt good to have chosen Dr. Tang as my ophthalmologist; her methods appeared to prioritize accuracy rather than speed and that is what a patient needs. I would recommend people to visit her for eye checkup. (For frames, the lady taking orders was rushing things. Perhaps it was lunch time for her so I can understand, perhaps too many frame orders came around that time, or perhaps it was relativity. That section could improve.)

All she cares is MONEY. I had an eye allergy ( I thought I had an infection). I have insurance blue cross ppo. But she wouldnt take my insurance. She made me pay for my visit $98. She only spent 5 minutes with me. I called my insurance. They told me Dr. Tang is in network. I should pay my copay only which is $15. I will never go back to her. She lied to me about not taking my insurance. Lesson learned.

Been going here for years. Very friendly, fast, & professional. Slightly pricey, but due to the location being in Irvine I am not surprised.
