As an all around anxious person, (especially when it comes to medical offices) I have always struggled with being proactive about my health -given that you have to be a reliable patient to your doctor or dentist, etc. "What if I fail them?" is usually what I was most fearful of, and of course their judgement. Previous to Dr. Yamada, I had a difficult experience with my then-dentist to the point where my anxiety took over and I just didnt schedule any teeth cleanings or checkups for almost 4 years! I did get to a point, as I got older, when I decided to stop letting my anxiety control me. This was an emotional process that taught me a lot about self-worth - I needed to take control of my health and future. I decided to muster the emotional strength it took to seek out a new dentist. To put my trust in a dentist was something I did not think I could do easily, until I met with Dr. Yamada and her amazing team. Because of them, my anxious relationship with dentistry is no more. Not only are they accepting of your unique needs/preferences/fears, but they always remember so as to keep your experience positive when visiting them. The care that Dr. Yamadas team puts into my dental health is outstanding and feels so rewarding when I am leaving their office. After being with Dr. Yamada for a year and a half now, I would recommend Dr. Yamada to anyone and everyone, not just the anxious and fearful. To know that I can confide in my dentist is such a blessing and I want others to know that they can have that, too. Plus, Dr. Yamadas team is hilarious and I always look forward to chatting with them! There is no downside to this dentist!

Today I learned a bit more about Ocean Dental Care, the office of Dr. Michele Yamada, which has an amazing history as what may be one of the first dental offices in the Ocean Beach & Point Loma area started in the early 1950s an under the mondern dental leadership of Dr. Michele Yamada. Dr. Yamada has owned the office for I believe 25 years plus of which she has mixed her exceptional clinical skills & team leadership with her taking care of people first attitude which is why going to the dentist is a good thing at Dr. Yamadas office. You quickly get a sense that this office is into Smiles and keeping your teeth a lifetime. Talking to Tiffany at the front office I was surprised to discover not only the hours of continued dental training Dr. Yamada and her team complete every year ... I discovered the many many giving back to the community programs they ALL participate in ... Wow! Who does that now a days? I guess we know who does Dr. Yamada and her super dental team of professionals. My suggestion is give them a call, go see them, your teeth will be in amazing caring hands. Did I mention all their high-tech dental things too? They have a machine which can make a new tooth if your tooth breaks ... your kidding me? Wow! Worthy of a go see them for sure.

Big fan of this place. Id gone to two different dentists in OB previously... the first, a kindly gentleman with impeccable bedside manner, but whose tools and methods were woefully outdated. The second, a "laid-back hippie type" who seems to just tell you what you want to hear rather than doing actual work, and likely just keeps his practice open to fund his surfing lifestyle. Dr. Yamada and Ocean Dental Care, on the other hand, combine a relentlessly friendly staff with cutting-edge tools and methods. Seems like they are checking/documenting lots of data points; they are good at comparing your results and seeing what trajectory your dental health is on. It feels like a "safe" place, yet one where my medical needs are being met. They will advise you of recommended procedures, but not force or guilt you into any of them (and understand the limits of what dental insurance will provide for!) Your comfort is a definitely priority, even with little things like sunglasses so youre not staring directly into that blinding overhead light. On top of all that, theyre active in the community; from holiday parade floats to chili cookoff booths. Really cant recommend these guys enough.

I have been a patient of Dr. Yamada and the Ocean Dental Care Team for nearly a decade. Their team is among the most welcoming, kind and professional group of people that I have been fortunate enough to get to know. I consider their team to be my friends which is almost unheard of to say of any service provider, let alone your dentist. I greatly appreciate their sensitivity and attention to detail of my teeth as a patient as well as their warm friendliness as a person. I am honored to also know that Dr. Yamada is recognized as a leader in her field of dentistry which any patient would be proud of. As part of their success, the Ocean Beach Dental Team also gives away their time, talent and treasure as good stewards of Ocean Beach and the San Diego community. Overall, I am certain you will have a wonderful experience when you walk in the doors of this highly qualified dental practice!

YELP KEEPS FILTERING MY REVIEW!! Dr. Yamada, and the entire staff at Ocean Dental Care embodies what it means to care. Not only an exceptional dental office, but good people. They volunteer their free time to causes like Susan G. Komen, Dominican Republic humanitarian trips, and veterans clinics. They are never too busy to answer questions. Dr. Yamada has been the first dentist to actually sit and talk to me about my dental care. I felt like an active participant, instead of just another mouth. The one thing that I have learned from Dr. Yamada is, not all dentist are equal. Just like everything else in this world, you get what you pay for. For the first time in my life, I love going to the dentist!

My first visit to this office was when I was having what I thought an urgent dental issue and just walked into the office and asked if they could help me out. Right away Tiffany calmed me down and a few minutes later, Dr. Yamada was fixing the problem. Im so grateful to them and have had some other procedures done by Vera since then which have gone very well. In my opinion they are very trustworthy and have high standards of care. If you have any anxiety about dental work I would recommend this practice as they are very patient and will explain everything in detail.

I cant say enough good things about Ocean Dental Care. Everyone is so friendly, you can tell that the staff truly care about their patients. They have a great little kids area where kids can wait for appointments or for their parents. Dr. Yamada is very professional and has a very gentle and calm demeanor. Ive never been kept waiting and they make sure to send you reminders when its time for your next cleaning. I have always been extremely pleased with the care, results and staff at Ocean Dental Care and I highly recommend them. Best Dentists Office and Staff Ever!

I started seeing Dr. Yamada about 10 years ago after switching from a nearby dentist who kept bungling my billing and creating mountains of paperwork. Over the years I have had several mercury fillings replaced, a few crowns and regular checkups. The staff is great, the office always spotless and the procedures top notch. The availability of early morning and evening appointments has been a great plus for me. They want you to come in a little more often than I think is necessary so a little pushback with some friendly banter takes care of that.
