I made an appointment in February, 2015 to have a small mole removed from my face. I was on time, paid a $30 co-pay fee, waited about 45 minutes, examined and treated for about 10 minutes, and was subsequently billed for about $300. I was seen by Dr. Kristine Hirschfield and her assistant, Eileen. The medical visit included a routine skin exam, a freeze-treatment for the facial mole (by the assistant, Kristine) and a biopsy for a small spot on my forehead, the latter which turned out to be unnecessary. During the freeze treatment by the assistant, Eileen, I inquired about the effectiveness of that technology. I was told that this treatment was very effective and the mole should fall off after a few days. It did not. In fact, the mole has enlarged over the past few months. Since I originally scheduled the office visit to have the facial mole removed, the treatment given by Dr. Hirschfield and her assistant Eileen was a complete failure. When I called the office to dispute the charges and reschedule another treatment without additional cost, I was told by the receptionist that the billing department was a separate entity but she would talk to the office manager about my situation. I explained that I had recently changed my primary health insurance coverage to Kaiser, which would not pay for another office visit to Valencia Dermatology. About two weeks following my phone call noted above, I received a statement from Sierra Receivables Management, Inc. listing DANIEL TAHERI M.D. INC as the creditor, and evidently the CEO of Valencia Dermatology. The bill, in the amount of $169.38, included $9.38 for interest. A payment to the above collection agency was made forthwith to avoid damaging my credit. To date, some 9 months following my one and only visit to Valencia Dermatology, advertising itself on the internet as one of the best in the Los Angeles area, I have not been contacted by anyone from their corporation regarding the failed treatment for removal of a facial mole. I was therefore compelled to share this experience with the public via an internet review, together with formal reports to Consumer Affairs and the California Board of Medicine, perhaps helping others avoid a similar problem with this medical group.
