What a disappointment again! I made a huge mistake attempting to return to Cherished Companions after our vet from another place retired. There was a verbal agreement over the phone directly with one of the Cherished Companions veterinarians stating a waiver could be signed to bypass blood work in order to get my dogs prescription refilled with an online pet pharmacy. I was assured I would sign the waiver after the exam and get my dogs medication refilled immediately. He purposely waited until the conclusion of the exam announce his unwillingness to out right accept a signed waiver. They tried to pressure us to pay more otherwise my dog would not leave with his pain medications. Despite my dog being on this medication his entire life without incident and Cherished Companions accepting signed waivers in the past for over 5 years on behalf of my dog, this veterinarian decided to change his mind and charge me $70 for blood work. However, he said the only way to by pass the so called "mandatory blood work" would be to pay the 300% mark up for the same medication they sell in their office. So, instead of paying the customary $89 for my dogs medication online the veterinarian stated I must agree to pay their cost of $350 for the same medication! I reiterated my financial limitations as a disabled person on a fixed income who could never afford to go over budget to care for my disabled dog but they were unfazed. Until this morning, I had forgotten how aggressive (money driven) and insensitive (without any concern for the animals involved) the doctors and management staff can be with their unsavory business tactics to generate a profit. Perhaps it is a blessing things did not work out today. I am grateful I am not one of many past clients, I recently learned about in my community, who had their animals lost while in Cherished Companions care, or mixing up animal patients and operating on the wrong dog or a cat not stitched properly after surgery only to suffer from an exposed stomach which took two them times to get it right. Cherished Companions has a history of horrible things happen to the animals brought into their care so much that they even made the news. Google it and check it out for yourself. I was lucky today and I hope others will at least consider Cherished Companions unusual/at times dangerous history before becoming a client.

I took my 6 1/2 month old kitten to see Dr. Melanie and the rest of the staff at Cherished Companions about a year and a half ago. I have never voiced my opinion but I feel its necessary, especially if anyone is thinking of going there in the future. I took my cat in to have her spayed and declawed. They all insured me it was a safe and simple procedure. The first red flag was that I had to hold my cat down for them to take her temperature and give her a shot, I thought vets were trained to be able to deal with cats that are a little frightened. The next day I went to pick up my cat and they had explained that the doctor had clipped too far on one of her paws so there could be some excess bleeding. That worried me, but I took my cat home anyways. When I got home, I took my cat out of her cage and held her on her back to take a look at her belly. Thats when I realized they did not stitch her up properly. Her insides were pushing through her wound and she looked like she was in quite a bit of pain. I quickly got back into my car and took her back to them. They apologized and took her back into surgery to restitch her back up and put her insides back inside her body. I decided to leave her there for two nights, just so she could heal a little longer. After the two days, I went to pick her up and I asked if they had checked her and they told me they did, so I took her home. When we got home I got her out of her cage again, and she laid down and her stomach was open AGAIN. I called them and they were closed so I had to wait until morning to bring her back to have them fix it. I have never been more disgusted with a vet experience in my life. And to top it all off, they made me pay for both of the "fix" surgeries from their mistakes and pay for the anesthesia, which was $150 each time they "fixed" their mistake. After that experience I finally found a vet that my cat isnt afraid of and that clearly know what theyre doing.

I have been using Dr. Melanie long before she had her own clinic. She used to be a mobile vet and would come to my home to care for my Yorkies. When Josie had Addisons Disease, the emergency clinic had no idea what was going on. Dr. Melanie did. She correctly diagnosed it, got the proper med Josie needed, and Josie lived for several more years. She has even helped me via phone when I have been traveling with my dogs. This past visit was a worry for me because Ruby will be 12 in December and has her issues. She needs prednisone daily, and that can cause problems on its own. At her last visit, her blood work showed an elevated level that could spell trouble down the line. Her dose is lower now, so I was very concerned what her blood work would show, if the lowered dosage was not doing any irreversible damage. The news was good! There are still a couple of things higher than normal, but it is because of the prednisone, but......nothing that is damaging any of her organs. I cannot tell you the relief I felt......and its because of how Dr. Melanie has educated me on all of my dogs health and how to care for them the very best I can. I would never trust the care of my girls to anyone but Dr. Melanie.

Last week my wife called in about a blood work waiver. my dog has been going to this vet for years. Accept for the past 3 years. We have been using a different vet. Cherished Companions have all his records From last 3 year faxed over to them. They said yes to the blood work waiver. "Thats fine well let you sign a waiver so you can get your prescription online. " Which is only $98 with online pharmacy. So when I get there they tell me if you buy your dogs meds from us for 390.00 we will let you sign the waiver. But if youre going to use this online Pharmacy you will be required to do the blood work for 70. Dollars Whats the difference from their meds and an online Pharmacy? Cherished Companion didnt say this on the phone. I am using a reputable prescription company that theyve been signing waivers for years in the past. Sounds to me like the vet likes to say one thing. But does another. I dont know about you guys but I know I want to be able to go to a company thats going to tell me one thing and stick by it. Not to change our agreement at the end of our appointment for the soul purpose to get more money out of me. I think it was very unprofessional and lacked integrity.
