I wanted the mercury fillings removed from two teeth and replaced with white composite fillings. There was another tooth that also needed a filling and I asked if all the work could be done in one session. The dentist said that wasnt a problem. If I had known that this would lead to rushed and inattentive work I wouldnt have asked. I wasnt given enough time for the Novocaine to take effect before he started drill work. Also, he didnt seem terribly interested that I was twitching in pain during the filling removal and replacement. I learned later that when mercury fillings are being removed there should be a special suction airflow (in addition to that usual saliva removal device) to keep the volatilized mercury from being inhaled. I was sick with chronic bronchitis for almost 8 weeks after this appointment. At the end of the hour there wasnt enough time before the next client so he said I needed to come back for the bite adjustment on the fillings the following week. The next morning my jaw still hurt badly and when I tried to take a look at my new fillings there was a spot at the back of my right molar that looked odd and kept bleeding. I went to my usual dentist who removed the wooden spacing wedge that had been left between my jaw bone and tooth!! This experience left me firmly convinced that I was never going back to that office again. Later I cancelled the bite adjustment for the fillings and somehow ended up paying for it anyway. The office staff is nice, the boutique and high ends treats and teas are nice. But apparently all of this is some kind of fundraising for charity work in third world countries. Admirable, but I was looking for quality dental care for myself, there wasnt enough of a focus on that.

I went to Dr. Levine a few years ago and was very disappointed. I loved the idea of a holistic approach to dentistry, which is a rare thing to find, and so made an appointment with him. It turned out that the only things "holistic" about his office were the holistic- type magazines and other reading material which greets you when you walk in the door. When he was working on my mouth exactly the same way and with the same dental materials as any other dentist I had been to before had, I asked him directly if he used anything different than other dentists did as far as materials, etc. for filling or working on teeth to achieve a more healthy approach and he said "no". I then asked why he claimed to be a "holistic" dentist and got no answer. I never went back and was not impressed at all with the little bit of work he did do nor with the advice he gave me on future work which needed to be done. Also ridiculously overpriced ( and, in my opinion, not worth a hill of beans). If you decide to go to him, ask for yourself about the supposed "holistic" approach he has. If you know anything about what "holistic" really means, youll know that his claim is a complete farce.

Save yourself worry, stress, and the possibility of being duped out of a lot of money by NOT going to Dr. Jack Levine. His practice is little short of dental sharking. Look up the reviews on Yelp, which I think draw a more honest picture of his practice than these Google reviews. I went to him for a basic cleaning, complained of one sore spot on a tooth, and then was told I needed new fillings in ALL my teeth, which would cost me over $2,500. They pushed me in the business office and went over prices and payment arrangements for a longer time than I was actually in the dental chair. Then they kept hounding me via letters and phone calls to come in to start the work, and of course, the payments. I went to a great, honest dentist at Amity Family Dental (I highly recommend), and the honest dentist there told me I didnt need any new fillings at all, and explained the simple problem I had and ways I could soothe the sore spot. So yeah, dont go to Dr. Levine!

Wish I could give a negative 5 stars. After years of having no cavities, I moved to New Haven and went to this dentist. He diagnosed 6 cavities, which traumatized me so much that I foolishly let him fill them. I later went to a new dentist who said that she suspected I had been a victim of "aggressive dentistry" based on the size of my fillings and condition of my teeth. Over the next 5 years, all but one filling had to be replaced. We moved again and my new dentist had to replace the final filling today. While in the chair, the dentist asked if I had ever had dentistry done in another country. Her reason: this kind of filling is unusually colored at the bottom which is a cheaper material we dont usually see in the US; its usually from dentistry done in eastern European countries. No lie. Oh, and by the way, no cavities diagnosed since then.

I have been seeing Dr. Levine and his staff for several years now and cant say enough about them. Prior to seeing Dr. Levine, I, like many, feared the dentist. Dr. Levine and his staff have changed that and I now enjoy the dentist - even when theres a cavity to address! I no longer live in New Haven and make the trek to see Dr. Levine because I cant imagine going anywhere else and finding as good a Doctor and staff. The office is pleasant, the service outstanding and I couldnt imagine dental care any better!

This review is only based on two visits. If you like to listen to music as a distraction while youre getting your teeth cleaned, you might need to bring your own; there wasnt any. Early on, I received a couple of e-mail solicitations, one for teeth whitening and one for a fundraising bazaar that they were holding. That just seemed a little odd, but I havent received one in several months. I had a fantastic dentist for 25 years so perhaps I have high standards. Nonetheless, Im looking for another dentist.

This doctor is not honest. He diagnosed 12 cavities in my mouth, and then proceeded to offer a payment plan through a credit card application for dental work for over 7000$. I asked for a second opinion to another dentist in New Haven. I had 3 small cavities, and all the rest was just a scam. Honestly, stay away. If they had negative ratings I would definitely give him one.

He told me I needed $2000 worth of work and when I went to another dentist recommended by two friends and was told I needed none of that work done at all! The second dentist told me that hed been getting people in from Dr. Levine for second opinions because he overtreated *and* overcharged. Some of these super positive reviews seem weird. Im guessing theyre fake.

Everything the dds do is painless. Normally I feel it at the other dentist I gone to. I dont know why I dont feel it here. Maybe they just do it correctly rather than an awful job like other locations. I am so glad that I found you or I wouldve been torture for the rest of my life by dentist. Thanks for giving a different perspective on dentists.
