An auto accident in 1984 resulted in severe damage to my jaw, and after more than a decade of TMJ work, I underwent 18 months of dental reconstruction involving crowning most of my perfectly healthy white teeth. Since then, some teeth began to "die" and root canals were recommended. One failed root canal presented itself about one month ago as parts of that work began falling out of my mouth. I called South Shore about ten days ago after that tooth completely broke off below gum level. I was seen two days later, expecting to have it extracted. After having dental x-rays eight days ago, I was asked to come back in a week to discuss my options. Today, I was told it will cost me $52,000. with no reasonable or ultimately less costly viable options. Imagine my shock when the dentist told me, "... all your teeth will need to be removed ... sooner or later ..." and, then having to wait for a staff member to find out "how much will all this cost?" It is sad indeed people must incur out of pocket expenses for dental care primarily because it is virtually impossible to obtain affordable dental insurance, if any at all. In addition to hearing this news today, no one asked if I needed anything for the continuous pain I experience. There isnt a chance in hell my husband and I can afford dental care on his social security and my social security disability benefits. I certainly cannot justify putting the cost of a simple house into my mouth, especially after recently moving into this state from the Midwest. At my age, I have fewer years of life ahead of me than behind me. I suppose I can adjust to living in a cave, avoiding social situations and being seen with lots of black holes where a mouth full of bright whites used to reside. After working our entire lives, saving and planning for the future, we have lost 80% of all our assets in the past five years to dirty rotten scoundrels and to the federal government. Too bad being able to chew much less not look like trailer trash with rotten teeth as a result of lousy dental work in the past is now an out of reach luxury for me. Being able to tell a person, "the cost will be $52,000", without choking on the words is a skill the front office staff has mastered. Nice as they may be, it doesnt make their words any easier to swallow. There is nothing pain free about receiving this news. Perhaps they should seriously consider the psychological impact their devastating words have upon people, before showing them the door. By the way, the tooth which broke off is still rotting away in my jaw and the other infected or rotting teeth hiding beneath failing crowns hurt like hell. I am uncertain which hurts worse - the news or the teeth. Maybe a trip to Uruguay is in our near future. Research indicates the same work can be accomplished there for less than $10,000. I am beginning to appreciate the purpose of wearing a burqa.

By far the best Dentist in the area! I have had several issues with my teeth for the past 10 years and have been dissuaded away from going to the dentist after work completed hadnt held up and I had been charged for services not received. After dealing with pain and sensitivities, changing the way I eat food to avoid pain and giving up cold food and beverages I decided to try one last Dentist. Walking into the office I was nervous, that changed during the walk through of the office and being introduced to the staff and Dr. Kernagis. During the initial exam /x rays the dental hygienist was friendly, professional, and very informative. The Doctor was very easy going, explained everything in detail, answered every question, and was not in a hurry to get to the next patient as other dentist often are. These people appear to love this industry and their services show it. I had two crowns replaced, an onlay, and some other restorative services completed with this office. All the work was completed in just a few hours and they made the crowns right in the office so there was no need for me to make a second appointment to complete the work. The staff called to ensure I was handling recovery well and scheduled a follow-up the following week to ensure everything was proper. This office really does work with you on payments and insurance without any hassle, it is quality care at an affordable rate. Not only would I recommend this office to friends but I sent my husband there already, and will be relocating our children away from their pediatric dentist. I cant thank Dr. Kernagis enough for allowing me to drink a beverage with Ice in it and keep a smile on my face.

I normally dont post reviews, but I feel like compliments should really be given to whom and where it is deserved. I had a horrible experience with the previous dentist i went to. I had an oral surgery done to remove a cyst and i was wide awake the entire time. It was soooo painful and scary. My face was swollen for days and even weeks later i had trouble eating and getting back to normal. Because of that I never went to the dentist again. Although I knew that I needed to keep up with the cleaning etc I became terrified of going to any dentist. One day my husband and I decided that we need to do this and find a better dentist. I have to say that the moment we walked in, the staff was very welcoming from the front desk, the dental assistants, the dental hygienists, to the doctor and until the moment we left the office. Doctor Garth McCaffrey was amazing. It wasnt just the doctor that made us feel at ease, It was the entire crew. They were very thourough on everything. They took their time and explained everything. We saw the x-rays and walked out knowing that It was not a waste of time and that they had our best interest at heart. Our cleaning was great and we feel like we have a million dollar smile right now. I will def continue to go their and would recommend this place to everyone!!!

I hardly do a review but I believe I should compliment where its needed. I hated Dentist and the idea of going to a dentist! When I changed my last dentist place, which was a nightmare, I must say South Shore Dentist was a pleasant surprise!! The front office staff are amazing! My dentist Mary Prendiville is simply amazing!! I had 3 wisdom tooth removed, zero discomfort, slight swelling and no pain!! Few years ago, a different dentist removed one of my wisdom tooth, OMG! it was a horrible experience!! I had swelling for days, couldnt talk, forget eating!! I was very defensive when I was told to remove the remaining three, I was like they dont bother me, just leave them alone, they are my teeth, not yours! But I have to thank, Dr. Prendiville and the staffs of South Shore Dentist for this amazing experience! As long as I need a dentist, they have me as their patient! I even had my husband change his dentist :)

We just moved to the area and my son is terrified of dentists. They were caring and came up with unique was to keep him calm and still get the job done without having to hold him down or be forceful at all. I was able to be in the room and hold his hand the whole time. It was an excellent experience! They took the time to educate my 7 year old on the importance of dental hygiene in an way he would understand and now he cant wait to go back in 6 months for his check up. I booked my husband and I to be seen too because I was so impressed. Its not everyday you find a dentist that is great with stubborn kids and works well with adults as well. They are truly well rounded and they will continue to be our area dentist from now on.
