I had accidentally injured one of our sweet cats. I had tried to personally snip off one of his mats. I inturn cut him and caused a laceration that in a matter of hours was infected. I have been taking all of my cats to this clinic since I became a cat owner. I have not had any problems with prior treatments for my animals. The office staff in very personable and courteous. But on this occasion, the economic woes have taken over. My income is not as such as it used to be. I took my INJURED cat named "Herbie" to be treated. I explained my situation. I could either make my vehicle payment or have my cat treated. I opted the cat is family and more important. I explained my situation to the doctor/s, and told them how much money I had to my name, and asked to please treat "Herbie". Their response to me, remember, I have been taking ALL of my animals there for procedures and health care needs since I became a cat owner, was that they couldnt accept what I had in my pocket to treat what they called an "EMERGENCY" situation. I told them I would make up the difference when I received my next pay check. They stated that wasnt good enough and turned me out the door. The procedure would have cost $396 plus office visit of $42. I had $250 cash, and that was all the money I had to my name until pay day. They would have let my cat die, knowing the seriousness of the injury, infection had already set in and he had a fever. I wasnt looking for a hand out, I would have paid the difference. Knowing what I know now, I will NEVER take ANY of my animals to be seen or treated by this doctor ever again, who is only concerned about lining his pockets, not the care of the animals. Makes me wonder how he treats the animals when owners arent there to watch their every move. I inturn, did find treatment for "Herbie" and his injury is being mended and infection taken care of. The cost is no where near the price Northside Animal Clinic quoted me, and if it was, they were willing to work with me. They are truly concerned about the animal, not the lining of the pockets. In a real emergency, pet owners dont ever consider where I took "Herbie" and that was the SPCA. When I mentioned I was taking "Herbie" to the SPCA, the clinic made reference to they would not take care of my animal properly. The SPCA can not exist on their reputation around the United States if this were to be true. I have full faith in the SPCA because they truly were concerned about treating my cat and not measuring me up for how much money I could pay. As I was in the waiting room with "Herbie", once I signed the paper work giving permission, the representative wisked "Herbie" away and were going to perform emergency surgery. My thanks to the SPCA and my condolences to the Northside Animal Clinic who would of let "Herbie" die.

We think Dr. Saylor is very good vet - we have been bring our pets to him for 14 years, so it is disturbing to read some of the over-the-top comments posted here portraying him as a cheap & heartless animal doctor. Yes, he can be a little brusque at times, has been with me, but Ive noticed it is when I havent done what he instructed me to do or I wasnt listening when he was instructing - same as our pediatrician used to do when our kids were small . He obviously loves animals, is certainly not doing it for the money - few vets are - , and I think it is the people who annoy him, especially people who wait until the pet is seriously in trouble before bringing it in - same as a pediatrician who treats children whose parents have waited too long to bring them in. Like a pediatrician, he is trying to help the helpless who have no voice & doesnt really much like people who violate the trust of those who depend on humans for their survival, and he probably sees this type of person a lot. Then to top it off, these people cant or wont pay. Says right on the door "Payment is required when services are rendered" - just like your doc or dentist. And, sometimes, like all of us, he is having a bad day; cut him some slack. He is always nice to us, and we come prepared to pay because we know we will have to & it wont be cheap - no doctor is. Try forgetting your debit card at your local hospital when you go in - bet you dont see a doctor. Medicine is a business, pets are expensive (no such thing as a free dog), and to get bent out of shape because the man wants to be paid is unreasonable. He has been burned and knows when the client walks out that door owing money, odds are he will never see what is owed to him. I think the staff is wonderful & caring to animals - they certainly arent there for the money. Some of the staff have been there for years, which says a lot for how the clinic is run. Dr. Saylor is a good, knowledgeable, caring vet who knows his business. If you are looking for a "Foo Foo" vet, with trendy decor in the clinic, one who has you fill out a form asking: "on a scale of 1-5, how much are you willing to spend on this animal" (had this happen once), dont go to Northside. You will get good, matter-of-fact, no-nonsense care for your pet from a good vet & staff at what we consider a reasonable fee, which you should be prepared to gladly pay. I apologize in advance if this offends the reviewers on this page - I dont know both sides of the story and some of these people are obviously upset with the service they got, justifiably so or not. Just feel we needed to present our views and experience in defense of a clinic that has never been anything but kind, caring & professional to our pets and to us.

I would give all zeros for this rating if I could. If you want to order your Fur Babys medication through PetMeds and the medication needs approval from a vet then be prepared to pay a $15 charge from North Polk Animal Hospital. This establishment will not let you order medication or any other products through PetMeds that need vet approval unless you pay them $15 first. I tried talking to the manager Danielle (they have 5 locations) the Outback location about it but she literally hung the phone up on me. I called around to several other vets in my area to find out if this is done by other vets and they literally are the only office that does this. I will no longer be doing business with them because they want to charge/punish me for wanting to use an outside source to fill my Fur Babys prescription. The office part of this establishment seems to be more concerned with getting money from you than your Fur Babies getting their medication. A doctor doesnt charge you to fill your prescription at the pharmacy why should they? These people have lost their mind!!!
