I rarely write reviews but after my experience with this clinic, I feel compelled to warn everybody. I went to Avian and Animal Hospital with my senior dog to check a lump on her chest. Dr. Zellner and the staff were very nice, however, after examining my dog by touch, Dr. Zellner recommended surgery for which I was presented with a written estimate of over $900.00. Not only it caused me great stress and worry about my dogs health and the bill I was facing, but it also surprised me how quickly Dr. Zellner jumped to the decision that surgery was necessary on my senior dog (which involves submitting her to a risky anesthesia) only after touching the lump. I decided to go to other doctors to receive a second and third opinion. The next doctor I saw, not only determined that the lump was a benign fatty tumor but also found additional similar fatty tumors on my dogs chest that dr. Zellner didnt even find. He was confident that these were fatty tumors that did not require surgery but I was so paranoid and panicked about the first (dr. Zellners opinion) that I insisted that he performed biopsy in order to make sure he was right. The biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of the lumps being benign fatty tumors. I went ahead and obtained a third doctors opinion, which only confirmed that the second doctor was right. Meanwhile, the Avian and Animal Hospital was calling and texting me to schedule the surgery. I came back there to pick up my dogs blood work results, which was done in preparation for the surgery and for which I was charged $176 plus $60 per visit. The receptionist informed me that it would be $5 (!) charge to obtain a 1-page print of my dogs blood work results - after I already paid them $236 for almost scamming me into the unnecessary surgery. Stay away from this clinic - it is exactly like one of the previous reviewers noted - they care more about money than for your pets health. Instead, I highly recommend Enterprise Rd. Animal Hospital of Dr. Carlos Pola (727-797-PETS) in Clearwater. He is honest and offers much better prices e.g. approx. $40 for a biopsy as opposed to over $200 at Avian and Animal Hospital. By the way, the biopsy was not even offered to me as an option at Avian Hospital but they included the cost of biopsy on my estimate for it to be performed after the lumps removal.

So have been going to this vet for a year. Even gave an excellent review. However our last visit was horrible. The vet techs were wonderful. Front desk wonderful. Lynn and Joe have always been friendly and professional. With that being said, Dr Zellner is not. We have four animals. We have been pretty good about taking care of them. However within the last few months had to wait to pick up some medicine. Our visit yesterday was going fine until Dr Zellner proceeded to degrade us and humiliate us for not picking up the medicine. This is for a our dog who was not at the visit. She never once asked our the dog who was sitting under her feet. Since we could not believe she had the gall to speak to us in this manner, we obviously were not nice back. We left. Upset. Now we are in the attempt of transferring vets. Once again being charged for medicine that we did not leave with. Not once did Dr Zellner call to discuss yesterday or to even ask about Harley. We cannot believe the lack of manners and lack of professionalism. We are still in shock. If I could leave a zero I would.

The shelter I adopted my dog from recommended this veterinary hospital to me for my dogs neuter. It was a bit of a drive for me but the level of care I received was amazing. After the neuter when my dog was sick I tried a new vet closer to my home but the experience at that new vet was awful so now I only use this vet. I gladly make the drive because the experience at this hospital is amazing. The staff really care about your animals and they make you feel at home when you come in the door. I can not thank them enough for the help and support and care my dog and I have received. I will never go anywhere else. Perhaps the best part about this vet is that they dont seem to be in it for the money at ALL. Its about the love for the animals, their prices are extremely affordable and they will discount services for you any chance they get (without you even asking them). Thank you Dr. Zellner and staff!!!

My first time walking through the door and I wasnt greeted with as much as even a smile or a hello. The young lady sitting at the desk made me feel very unwelcome. I was suppose should be there 10-15 minutes earlier. Anyone with children knows how school mornings can be. Instead of a friendly greeting, I was scolded for not being timely. Yes, I was late, but would it hurt you to be kind? Smile? Did that 15 minutes really make you dislike me that much? Dont places like these realize that a friendly and welcoming staff means everything and puts people at ease, making them feel welcome and comfortable? Sadly, there are probably excellent vets there. I drove 25 more minutes to another facility. Guess what, they were super friendly and nice. That was well worth the extra miles.

I have been bringing all of my pets ( birds, cats and dogs) to Avian & Animal Hospital since 1989. The doctors have all been the best of the best. Dr. Zellner has sat with me and let me cry on her shoulder with the passing of my 9 year old Maltese, Sammy and celebrated with me on the newest arrival to my family, Mia, another Maltese. Debbie has been there for me from the beginning and Myrah always calls to check up on the patients. I can count on everyone there to take the best care of my 4 legged and feathered family. I cannot say enough about the entire staff of Avian & Animal Hospital. They are THE BEST OF THE BEST. Renee T

We brought our 21 year old cockatiel and our 15 year old Meyers parrot in to the office. Neither of them stranger-friendly. I was ready for a "bird battle". We were very impressed with Dr. Zellner. Our birds were instantly at ease with her and her staff. The birds let her "poke and prod" everywhere. Ive never, ever seen them that calm with anyone else but us. Dr. Zellner gave each bird a full exam checking eyes, ears, nose, wings, heart...everything! When we left, we had full written reports for both birds including things to change in their diets, care and cages.

After my leopard gecko fell ill, and there were no reputable reptile vets in my area, i did some research and came across Avian and Animal Hospital. Dr Z had amazing reviews so i decided to drive an hour to her office! It was the best decision for our little Izzy. Dr Z was so gentle and caring, extremely knowledgeable, and her staff was very friendly! Im grateful I took that drive as she understood how important this little creature is to our family! She treated him like her own pet! Id recommend her office to anyone and everyone!

I have been bringing my little Netherlands dwarf rabbit to Dr. Zellner and the Avian Animal Hospital for nearly four years now, and both Binkie (the bunny) and I love her! She is always cheerful to deal with, and very informative on how to upgrade the care I give my precious pet to enhance and extend his little life. He is not the only pet Ive brought to Avian/Animal, and all have received excellent care! Also, the entire staff is amazing -both friendly, efficient, and caring. I have never seen a vet better ever!
