Tuesday, August 30, 2016 To Whom it May Concern; My name is Glen Jerome Lowenthal, and I currently reside in Melbourne, FL. I am an Honorably Discharged veteran, who served 2-tours (81-85 & 88-92) with the US Army. I had never used my VA medical benefits until I had been laid-off by my employer in December of 2014. Unable to find a good job over an extended 8-month period, I confided with my Vet Representative at my local (State of Florida funded) Job-Link Employment Agency about some medical issues I was concerned about. She advised me to go to the local VA Outpatient Clinic in Viera, (Brevard County, Florida). Within a short few months time frame, I was correctly diagnosed with a deteriorated/arthritic Right-Hip that was causing me to limp and have severe lower back pain. During this time, the new Lake Nona VA Hospital in Orlando, FL was not yet able to perform the new Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery and I was outsource scheduled through a local private practice doctor, (Dr. John Perry @ Holmes Regional Medical Center in August of 2015). The surgery was a complete success and I just wanted to share my success story about the VA. I further want you to know that I now have a good job, (Hired as a Full-Time employee in December, 2015) with excellent medical benefits and still choose to use my VA clinic for all of my medical needs because of the outstanding care I have received at this facility. I have additional stories about the great service I have received since, but I had to proclaim my appreciation for the dedicated Doctors, (My Primary Care Doctor is Dr. Lynette Graff) and compassionate staff at the VA Outpatient Clinic in Viera, FL. In closing, I am aligning myself with the majority of service veterans who are saying: "We oppose efforts to privatize veterans health care. There are more than 8 million veterans across the country enrolled to receive a wide range of services through the VA. In 2013, the VA averaged around 236,000 health care appointments per day. Privatizing that system might pad the profits for some very large health care providers, but it would severely under-fund the Department of Veterans Affairs and leave many veterans with service-connected injuries out in the cold. Veterans depend on their VA care. Oftentimes, VA centers are equipped to deal with specialized care, amputations, and traumatic brain injuries in a way a local doctor or hospital may not be. For far too many veterans in need of specialized care, both physical and mental, they may not have a caregiver to turn to in their area. And with a new generation of service members returning home from overseas, this is precisely the wrong time to put the profits of a few large companies over the care of those who served. I am writing to ask you to please oppose any efforts to privatize veterans health care. I will be watching to see your work on this issue." Sincerely, Glen J. Lowenthal

Just wanted to say that the experiences we have had with this VA are some of the worst I have ever encountered. After being on the same medication for 28 years they took our mom off of them because of new regulations and refused to give her medications that she needed. We spent at least one day a week there trying to get a doctor to take her seriously. All she wanted was a medication to replace the one she spent half of her life on and they treated her like a drug addict and constantly brushed her off as a nuisance. We even caught one of the receptionist whispering things about her being crazy. Last week we spent 12 HOURS trying to get a medical doctor to see her and she was denied because she did not specify "medical" doctor.. They didnt offer to get her any further testing despite her trying to explain something was wrong and she felt like she was going to collapse any day now. Nobody would listen. She passed away yesterday after being denied the antibiotics she requested and the testing she needed. I strongly recommend that if you experience the same things you go to the ER instead and dont wait around for 12 hours at the VA only to be denied the help of a medical doctor. Nobody should have to go through this.

Over the last 2 years, its become Horrible, not just the good ole boys club, but new alleged Doctors whom almost killed off my liver and tried to say its me. Then all their tests, even Alcoholic Cirrhosis, Hep A-B-C etc all are Negative; These NEW doctors are like other state probationary AMA, people, recruited. Thank God I was a Paramedic and had a friend, a Critical Care Nurse with me. Or Id need a new liver. Also the Patient advocate is NOT there for you, he is in the Good Ole Boys club, and Im female, so I have been beyond harassed, and emotionally verbally, psychologically abused and yelled at, in front of patients and staff, by Rudolph Wilber Robertson from Admin-ID and Patient Records. He calls himself some huge title,( AND IM A MST Patient as well) and because Im female, Im not worthy of their care, at 60% and thats just the major issue. I had no idea we are pieces of body parts for Disability. ONLY Security are the nice gents at this place. I have more to tell, need Congress to hear it.

Its a good clinic. There have been a few occasions where Ive had to wait a while to see my doctor (only when I go without an appointment), but my wait time is usually under 30 minutes. You may also have to wait a long time for your appointment. Those gripes aside, their service is excellent and their facilities are presentable. I go there frequently for mental health treatment, and my anxiety is a lot more manageable now than it use to be. If your appointment is more than 1 month away, or you live a certain distance away from your nearest facility, you can qualify for Veterans Choice Program which will allow you to receive private healthcare in place of that appointment. I like this place, I really do. Some things can be definitely be improved on, but Im not disappointed. PS: If you have any issues with your doctors, call your congressmen and let them know they need to do something about it.

If you enjoy being left in pain by individuals who have no business calling themselves doctors (Mcaully, Flick, McDermott and Macmillan), this is a good place for you. They try to find ways to not help you instead of doing their jobs. All they have to do is review my medical packet and listen, like the real doctors did before I got stuck with the VA. They should be ashamed of themselves. Im tier one and am being left to suffer for the rest of my life by those witchdoctors who should not be "doctors." If youve been treated improperly, I highly advise filing a complaint and notifying everyone!!! I am and I will take every one of those individuals to task. Im notifying the Inspector General, Secretary of the VA, Governor, Senator, Congressman, local & national media and of course, the court of public opinion.

If youve ever been to another Smaller town VA youd know that youre lucky to have this rather newer larger clinic available this is not a hospital but rather a very big Dr office for 90% of you general aches and pains. The other 10% is done in Orlando. Dont expect fast emergency care there its not an E.R. if you are in need of an emergency call 911. If you wouldnt call them for the problem then be Patient these Drs really do care and if they dont suit your needs go talk to the patient advocates there. They will help you out. I know that to be a fact as I have used them myself. One last thing Use my healthy vet. I talk to my Dr on there all the time with out having to go in I email him he responds back usually that day and if its a concern he can get me in to see him asap.
