Ive gone to the ER a few times since we moved here a year ago and every time was fine until my past visit about a week ago. That morning, I had woken up with an enormous ugly rash on my leg, which appeared to be a spider bite, so naturally I was concerned. I considered making an appointment with my GP but wanted to get it checked out as quickly as possible, so I jumped in my car and headed over. As soon as I walked in the ER entrance, the security guard barked at me to go through a metal detector. After I was cleared to go, they admitted me and brought me back to a bed relatively quickly. This was at 10am. By 10:20, the doctor had seen me and instructed me how to care for the bite. I had an important appointment at noon that day and was relieved I would make it on time. Not so. They left me there and forgot about me and didnt discharge me until five minutes to 12. All the while I could hear them standing around talking about what kind of donuts were in the breakroom. I hit the call nurse button around 11:15 and they didnt even know who I was and why I was there. "Whos bed one? They just called. I dont know...". I was right across from them and got out of the bed and stood next to the curtain and they completely ignored me. I finally had to walk over to the desk and ask the nurse if I could leave, and she just said, "No." Luckily, I was able to push my appointment back to 12:45, but yikes. If they had been rushing around, I can understand, but I was the only one in there, and they were all just standing around and yawning. Extremely unprofessional. Also, for every other visit, they sent me a survey within a couple days and this time I didnt receive anything. I bet they chose not to because they knew I was upset. Come here if you want, but dont be surprised if they completely forget you exist.

The low rating goes for ER and ER only. The three day Holiday Weekend ER staff was terrible. The male doctor kept telling me how the female previous doctor who treated me in ER treated me with wrong meds for the same problem. (although she took care of the problem while being extremely busy 5 stars to her ). I have never heard that bad of a talk about the college in front of a patient before. He was very sarcastic about my drug allergies as well like I was making it up and it wasnt really allergy just a reaction (what??) The nurse call button was ignored we had to look for someone outside the room. It took them 15 min to bring me a blanket then wheel chair, etc with great displeasure. I was shivering in a hospital gown while being in pain. The ER was not busy at all no patients waiting and I was admitted right away. Was discharged with pain level 8. The doctor couldnt wait to discharge me soon enough and when I developed uncontrollable shakes he ordered to give me a muscle relaxant and discharge me by blaming the shakes on developing anxiety???? The name of the muscle relaxant wasnt even written in my discharge papers because they didnt want to reprint it. We had to write it down ourselves because I am careful with the drugs I take and like to keep a record. I couldnt wait to go to see my doctor next day where people actually care about the patients. Worst service ever when you need help. Also dont have anything against male nurses (not all) but show some compassion and please do introduce yourself when you enter the room. Nobody wants to go to ER without a serious reason. We are scared and in pain please remember what being a doctor/ nurse profession is truly about. Big time improvement needed! On another side the hospital staff is excellent I would rate them 5 stars.

My experience was the same as other if not worst. I was there taking my partner because of a medical emergency on Feb.15 while we were waiting we saw a individual being demanded his social security number before they would admit him which is illegal. My partner was treated for and given medication. My partner did a followup with her own doctor and found out they completely misdiagnosed and were giving her incorrect medication which made her worst and was life threatening and I see that is a theme on here and yelp reviews and am writing review on her behalf while she is still recovering. While my life partner was being treated I overheard the gentleman we saw earlier being asked for all his banking information and assets while he was in immense pain in ER bed and told that he must pay 300 before they would further treat him which is illegal. When you put money first over caring for patient that is in emergency room that is downright disgusting and shows no respect to hippocratic oath. The IRS passed laws several years ago as you are a not for profit hospital that you have to abide by to maintain your tax free status and I saw several being broken on that patient, you could have offered that patient financial assistance or charity care but had spoken about it after he was treated and not denying care which is unlawful. This is the most unprofessional hospital I have ever been in to date. I was so compelled that i contacted the patient father that was there after seeing him outside and let him know the unlawful way his loved one was being treated as my profession keeps me informed on these situations. This is why healthcare needs an overhaul.

I recently attended the ER department of the hospital and I was very disappointed with the service and the extremely high charges. I am a new resident in Florida and do not currently have health insurance, but I had painful swelling on my chest so decided to visit the Viera Hospital ER department. It was a Sunday and I was seen almost straight away, but the Doctor who examined me appeared to have a heavy cold and one of his arms was in a sling (not impressive). He spent about 5 minutes examining me then suggested an X-ray. After the X-ray he spoke with me again for a few minutes but said he could not do anything for me so gave me contact details for a surgeon. I was then asked to pay $294.72 which I paid and told that I may get a separate bill for the X-ray. One Month later I received another bill of $29.00 for the X-ray *Then I received another bill for $343.00 (Total: 666.72 for a non-beneficial 10 minute visit). When I queried this cost with the hospital I was told that I should have seen the notice of charges fixed to the wall in the ER reception area (a small notice the size of a sheet of paper on the back wall behind you as you walk in). Its disappointing that no one advised me of the cost before I proceeded and I would have preferred a doctor who did not have a heavy cold and had the use of both hands

I had a terrible experience with this hospital. Spent more than six hours in ER only to be assigned a room in the ER. Was right across from the nursing station (staffed by one nurse) and the call requests kept me awake all night. Never received my meds. Nest day about 3 pm I was moved to a room on the third floor. Care did not improve much. The next night, I had completed all my tests and conferred with a cardiologist and a neurologist. No more tests scheduled. I did not receive meds. Assumed I would be discharged but after several requests and a visit from the Supervising nurse was informed that the hospitalist assigned to me had left (I never saw her) and the hospitalist on duty would not release me since he had not seen me (the other hospitalist hadnt either). I demanded to see hospitalist and about 11 pm he came to my room. He denied that he had even been contacted that evening and had not refused to release me. He did sign release and I left Viera Hospital. I shall not return.
