Going to a travel clinic I expected a doctor to be at least present on site if questions/issues arise. We were serviced by a nurse, which I guess in itself is ok, but there was no doctor available. Our dedicated nurse did not have basic information about the diseases, their treatment, prevalence, rates of infections etc. She kept saying its beyond their scope of service - they only do prevention - and beyond her training. She pulled out a print out with recommended vaccines for the country we were going to and read the description on the paper. She had a very basic understanding of how vaccines work and did not fully comprehend the difference between a inactive vaccine and one with a live virus. Ive spent my appointment reading CDCs website and pamphlets provided by vaccine manufacturers to make sure its appropriate, effective and with low enough side effects. What a waste of time the consultation was, but to be fair I probably ask more questions than their average patient... We did get our vaccine and prescription for malaria. The online registration system worked very well, nurse was nice and really tried to be helpful - just did not have the knowledge. We ultimately got what we needed to get.

In the 5½ years Ive lived in Miami, this was my third and best visit yet to Passport Health Miami Travel Clinic (East Coral Gables). I was very impressed by Stephanies professionalism, easygoing nature, and excellent customer service, as well as the underlying systems support and work flow that comprised pre-registration online, automated appointment reminders, etc. I was even able to pay a slight upcharge for Passport Health to submit a claim directly to my health insurance provider, eliminating the hassle of having to do so myself — one less item on my to-do list, thank goodness! This is a great alternative to the traditional, overscheduled doctors office visit for something as routine as a vaccination.

It would have been a fine visit if it had not been for the 45 in. spent at the pharmacy trying to fill my malaria prescription. The pharmacist could not find the doctors registry in their system and had to spend 30 min. on the phone with Passport Health rep. trying to get the doctors name and registry number right. The doctor was finally located as being registered in another city. I had never even met this doctor, Not sure what their system for prescribing is, but it did not seem right to me and it certainly made me and the pharmacy waste a lot of time.

I had a very nice experience, today; as I received a few immunizations! The RN who greeted me upon arrival, briefed / debriefed me about the immunizations and administered them to me, is Audra.
