I chose this dentist odffice because it is near my apartment, and because it sees children and adults alike. I just moved to Miami and need to find a good dentist that I would want to commit to. I was hoping that this would be the one. He seemed to get pretty good reviews on Google. Well, there is no way I could commit to this dental office. Even though the doctor seemed quite good, knowledgeable, and friendly, his staff is another story. First of all, the hygienist who cleaned my teeth was very rough and I was in severe pain. She was slamming the tools into my gums, choking me with too much water, and stabbing me with her nails. I asked her to be more gentle, to no avail. They insisted that they could not see me unless they took an x-ray of my entire mouth. (They also pressed some other unnecessary things that I declined.) After leaving, I was sure that I could not bring my kids to have their teeth cleaned there, as it was basically a torture. I called the office the next day, asking if it would be at all possible for me and my family to be treated only by the dentist, and not the hygienist. They never got back to me on that. Then, I decided that this office could not serve my entire family if they lack communication in addition to all the other things wrong. So, for about one month now, I have been calling this office every single day, requesting that they give me a copy of the x-ray that they took of my mouth, so that I can have it for my next dentist, and not expose myself to unneeded radiation. They *never* answer the phone, they *never* respond to my voicemails. I went in person to the office, and they would not buzz me in, saying that the person who could help me was on vacation. Their recording says that if you have a dental emergency, you can page the dentist, which I did, but didnt get a call back. Today my husband is going there in my stead to get the x-ray for me. Lets see what transpires... Its shocking the incompetence and carelessness of this dental office. Its almost comical, like the "Little Shop of Horrors."

Had a great experience all the way around. I have periodontal disease and the average cost to do a scaling per quadrant is approximately 200$ - 250$ at a good dentist, so close to if not 1000$ dollars to have a deep cleaning done along and under the gum line where pockets collect bacteria for all my teeth. I usually have to split this up into 4 appointments so I can afford it and it is always stressful regardless as I have to get Novocain and the scaling usually feels very invasive. I was able to use my newly acquired dental insurance form Obama Care and paid less then 450$ for all 4 quadrants and Dominique the hygienist, was so gentle and thorough, plus she used a stronger gel product that numbed me enough not to have to use the novocain. On top of this she also treated my gums with an anti bacterial treatment, that no one has ever offered before. I left relaxed and happy and with clean teeth, all nasty bacteria removed. I truly adored the entire Staff there and their friendly but professional ways were very welcoming. La La was also exceptional in the care she took with x raying and listening. Her follow ups were right on time and super informative. Mercedes was right there for me to help make appointments and explain and educate me on what the insurance covered.( along with La La ) All the girls helped me make the best decision on how to be able to finance and pay for what the insurance did not cover . I am very satisfied and very grateful to have found this dental office and right down the street form where I live as an added bonus. I will have work done by the dentist next month and hopefully will have the same great experience. Thanks to you all for making my usually anxious dental experience a positive one. ~ Sharyn

When you go in experiencing pain and they try to sell you a special toothbrush and toothpaste it should be a red flag that they see you as money rather than as a patient. I went to Coast Dental South Beach since they were nearby and in-network, needing one crown for sure and possibly another. For the second crown I explained that I was feeling pain BELOW my tooth, and Dr. Barfield said that there could be a crack in my tooth that was causing sensitivity, and that a crown could solve that. So I got the crown I needed plus the second crown to remedy the pain and temperature sensitivity. Unfortunately, what I really needed was a root canal. After the crown I spent several days and nights in extreme pain, going back to him to ask him what he thought could be wrong. He had no idea but noticed the tonsil on the side with the crown was swollen and said, maybe you have a throat infection. I got strong anti-biotics to remedy the infection, but after six months it came back with more pain day and night. After finally deciding to switch dentists they said I needed a root canal right away. It wasnt fun but it was necessary. In retrospect Coast Dental and Dr. Barfield wanted to suck up as much money as they could. Now a year after the work was done they add insult to injury, I get a bill for $325 more. "Your dental plan was maxed out, so you owe us more money". Part of me wants to sue them but rather than go through the hassle, I would rather tell people how horrible their service is, and how despicable their motives are. I dont think this dentist should be allowed to give "professional" advice.

I had a dental emergency and they did a good job. However the color of the crown they selected was all wrong and I was too woozy from all the novacaine to make a clear-headed decision. Am very disappointed about this. The equipment was clean but looks pretty low budget. I dont know if it was the novacaine but it reminded me of PVC piping. However, the technician was very knowledgeable and the dentist was very professional & conscientious, he definitely knows his stuff. The office walls looked a bit trashed but they touched up the paint on the scuffed-up walls after I said I thought it made the office look unclean and uncared for, which was a heads up for me. This time I saved $1000 with Coast, over my regular dentist but the next procedure they estimated was comparable so Im going back to my top-of-the-line, high-tech dentist, who does crowns, root canals, everything, right onsite. My regular dentist charged me $85 for cleaning and said the cleaning that Coast recommended was unnecessary. Id go back if the price was right as I trust the dentist and technicians expertise, plus its so convenient to my location. I was also impressed that they actually took my advice and touched up the scuffed walls. No real complaints, they helped me when I had some challenging dental problems and Im grateful.

Ive been a client for years and they have severely declined in service. They are money hungry. Every time i go in they add special toothpastes ($20 a tube) and flouride treatments to my bill which i repeatedly deny treatment of. They still add every time. Now i have changed dentists and im happy with my new one! She explained the benifits of my insurance and is not trying to make a hole in my pocket. She also took exray of my whole root canals to be aware of any problems that may be below the surface. The coast dental people completly missed a huge abscess i have infected under mt root canal. I could have lost my tooth if not for my new dentist. On top of being extremely expensive for Any cavity work i had done they werent punctal on my treatment recently. They also had a mix up with my billing and im still waiting for the outcome on that one. Its plain rude and should be illegal to do work on someone telling them insurance will cover it and then send a bill when it doesnt. I have a mind to report to better business beureau. My new Dentist explained my insurance perfectly simple to me and now im in good hands.
