Dr. Max is an outstanding vet. I own four large breed dogs, and two rare breed cats. He is excellent. My Black Russian Terrier is alive today because of his care. When this dog was puppy she developed a serious lung issue. The other vets at the practice I went to that Dr. Max was working at, told me this dog would be dead within hours. Dr, Max took me aside and told me, they are all wrong. BRTs are incredible survivors. She will make it. And he was correct. She has never had any long term effects from this issue. Dr. Max knows BRTs better then any vet around. He was the only vet at that practice who had ever seen a BRT before. He understands large breed dogs, and is not afraid to tell you the truth. He tells you what you need to know and how to address your pets health care needs. He has never run tests that were not needed. I would not go to any other vet. His office is run well, and the primary concern is the animal. The other vet in practice is also super. I did go to the other vet who had previously owned this practice many years ago. I felt he was not on the cutting edge of vet care. I never went back there. I have known Dr. Max for many years, and followed him when he purchased and opened this practice in Island Lake. Your animals will be cared for well. I have never been treated rudely by anyone on his staff. When one of my dogs became seriously injured literally a few minutes before closing. Dr. Max waited for me to arrive, took care of the dog, and did not charge an absurd fee for this outstanding care. If your dog is fat, he will tell you. He doesnt sugar coat issues. He has great compassion, and truly cares for your animals.

I was referred to ILVC a few years ago by a friend. I brought my elderly cat in a few times for different issues, and saw Dr. Donovan. He was so gentle with her, and took so much time checking her out. I felt at ease, and so did she. Last month, on a Friday afternoon, Mandy (my 18 year old cat), starting having trouble walking. I called up and was able to get an appointment within 1/2 hour. Although the result of this visit was that we had to end up putting her down due to a large tumor, I was completely happy with the way ILVC treated her, and my entire family. We never once felt rushed or forced into a decision. My husband & children were able to come and we spent as much time with her as we needed. The doctor and all the staff were so helpful & sympathetic, and also great with explaining to my children what was happening. I would recommend them to anyone. Their compassion & love of animals really shines through.

I brought my dogs here for their yearly shots and check up. My dogs have always taken these shots with no incident and showing no signs of pain or trauma. This vet is the most careless I have been to in my 40+ years of animal ownership. Both my dogs were subjected to incredible pain due to the vet being more interested in talking about past vacations than paying attention to what he was doing. When he noticed my male dog looked terrified because of the pain he was causing the vet laughed and said he looks terrified, hahahaha! They also did not give my dogs the bordatella inoculations I requested or give them any kind of physical exam. Their prices are also much higher than most other vets in the area. If you care about your animals dont bring them here.

My dog has been a patient at this clinic since he was six months old, and I wouldnt trust his care to anyone else other than Dr. Max. My dog was rescued from a puppy mill,and was so traumatized, that he doesnt trust too many people, especially males. Dr. Max is so gentle, that my dog will let Dr. Max near him, and even touch him, which if you knew my dog, this is a miracle. The staff there goes out of their way to accommodate us, so I can bring my dog in for his checkups without being near other animals, because it is too stressful for my dog. I definitely would recommend Island Lake Veterinary Clinic for the best medical care for pets.They are the best!

I had been going to a different vet for years, I just started going to Island Lake Veterinary Clinic and I love it there! They always make time for you and squeeze you in for appointments even if you call same day. They remember your name and your pets name. Super personable. I have had the pleasure of meeting both Dr. Donovan and Dr. Max. They are both excellent doctors. Dr. Donovan and Dr. Max were both so gentle and caring with my puppies. One of my puppies also got surgery there and Dr. Max is an awesome surgeon. I wouldnt recommend you to go anywhere else! The vet techs and receptionists are awesome too.

I used to take my dog there and went with my new puppy. The doctor made me feel like I was a terrible owner and took my dog to the back for tests and shots. Normally they did that in front of me and I got to hold my dog. Then I stood there waiting for 15 minutes after they gave me the dog back because they were going to tell me the blood test results and nobody came to talk to me. I was frustrated I went in for a rabies shot and came out spending $200 for all this other crap I didnt want. Plus they used to cut my dogs nails for free and this new guy charged me $30!

I have owned several dogs and cats in the past (and present) When my vet retired I went on a search for a new vet and was so pleased to find Dr. Max and his staff The entire staff is fantastic. They care about your pets as if it was their own. Dr.Max will be honest and open with you and respect your choices as an owner. He is always looking out for what is best for your pet. I have been there as a walk in and never have had to wait to long. He takes time with each pet so you never feel like you are being rushed when it is your turn. I highly recommend this clinic.

I have been here a few times and they have helped my dog every time. The time I recall the most is my 15 yr old husky ( now 16) was having anxiety issues and pacing, eating my plants and just not laying down. I had her on a pain medication prescription from my vet in WI and they took me in here since I was new to the area. The vet said within minutes, Shes having side effects from the pain meds. I said how do we fix that, she will be in pain without. He said well put her on Rimadyl, She was calmed down within days and doing much better.

I recently moved to Island Lake with my family. I was very concerned about Island Lake Veterinary Clinic. I have 3 very big strong dogs that can be very aggressive at times. When I called up Island Lake Veterinary Clinic for a check up with my dogs, the lady I spoke with was simply amazing. She gave me good information about the neighbor and Island Lake Veterinary Clinic. The clinic is well located in Island Lake. They all took great care of my dogs and was able to get me in and out quicker than I expected.
