DO NOT GO TO THIS VETERMINARY CLINIC! Whoever said they are reasonbly priced, I couldnt disagree more! I called this a.m. and asked if I could bring my dog in for a nail trim, she had broken one of her nails. I thought she would go in, have it trimmed by a tech, and I would be out with a $15-$20 bill. When I got there they had me visit the doctor, which I thought was odd, but not having been there before, thought maybe they didnt have techs who could do the trim. I met with the doctor FOR AT MOST 1 MINUTE - who looked at the nail and said she could probably trim it. She asked me if I wanted the rest of the nails trimmed and I concurred, again, thinking $15-$20 for a nail trim. She took my dog in back, and came back 2 minutes later with the broken nail in hand and said all was fine. I went to check out and it was $60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What? Yep, $48.00 for doctors visit and $12.00 for nail trim. I could not believe it. The receptionist went back to ask the doctor, and said no break on charges since it was a "new patient office visit" and nail trim. New patient office visit? WTF? If it was a new patient office visit, shouldnt she have at the very least listened to her heart and lungs, looked at her teeth, ears etc, asked me some questions about her heath and vaccinations? What a friggin joke! You would think they would at the very least have thrown in a complimentary nail trim, AS MOST VETS DO, when charging for an office visit. THIS PLACE IS A GIGANTIC RIP-OFF. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Go to Valley Animal Hospital in Geneva where they care about pets and clients, not the almighty dollar. I would have gone to Valley Animal HOsptial today, my usual vet, but only had a short window of time so I called Sugar Grove Animal Hosptial. The lady should have told me, yes, we can trim the nail, but it will cost you $60.00 BEFORE I brought my dog in for a supposed nail trim. Valley Animal Hospital has techs who can do trims for $15.00. A Doctors Office visit, which includes full check-up, is only $40.00 and includes complimentary nail trim. DO NOT GO HERE - IT IS A RIP OFF. THE PLACE IS OLD, DIRTY AND OUTDATED. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MAKING MONEY AND RIPPING OF THE CONSUMER. IM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB!

In response to the comment regarding the $60.00 nail trim; although we are disappointed that we were unable to meet this pet owner’s expectations, we believe those expectations were unrealistic. When the owner called, she stated that her dog had a broken toe nail and seemed to be in pain. She also insisted on coming in immediately. The review implied that this was a routine nail trim. Owners do not come in on an emergency basis for routine nail trims. At the time, both doctors were in surgery. Our doctor noted that the dog would not put weight on the leg, examined the foot and identified the broken nail. The break extended into the quick, which is the plexus of nerves and blood vessels inside the nail. Sometimes, animals have to be sedated to remove the nail because cutting or tearing the quick is painful. In this case, we were fortunate. Examining the toe under magnification showed that the original trauma had separated most of the nail from the quick. The doctor disinfected the area of the break, applied a local anesthetic and removed the nail by continuing along the fissure created by the original trauma. There was minor bleeding, so a styptic powder was applied. The dog was then returned to its owner. The client was charged an exam fee of $48.00 and $12.00 for trimming the other toenails. The exam charge at Valley Animal Hospital is $45.00, not $40.00 as this owner stated, and toenail trims are generally not complimentary there. We hope you can understand why these fees were implemented. Sometimes, an emergency fee is charged when a pet must be seen immediately and a doctor is pulled away from treating another pet. In this case, recognizing that it was a relatively short procedure, the doctor elected not to charge an emergency fee, as was reasonable. Sincerely- Sugar Grove Animal Hospital

Just got back from the Democratic Republic of the Congo recently and brought back a silver back Gorilla. Anyways I found out that Wendys isnt the best food for this big guy. After about three hours with the shop vacuum I look over and Ramone (the Silver Back) is looking green. Called SGAH and they allowed me to bring Ramone in. They explained that Wendys double cheeseburgers isnt what these guys eat. The doctor said these subspecies consume parts of at least 97 plant species. About 67% of their diet is fruit, 17% is leaves, seeds and stems and 3% is termites and caterpillars. Western lowland gorillas eat a variety of vegetation. So armed with this information I headed over to Whole Foods. FYI Silver Backs are not allowed in Whole Foods. So all in all I learned lots of lessons this past week.

A few years ago my cat had a broken leg. After taking him to two other places who quoted me $2000-$4000 to fix it via surgery, we went to SG Animal Hospital. They watched him limp around, noted he was not in pain (he had run away and the break had occurred a couple weeks prior), and suggested we wait and see how he does before anything more drastic. Which we did and now years later you cant even notice a limp. So glad we followed that advice. I really appreciate vets who understand that many clients are not interested in spending more on unnecessary health care procedures for their animals than they would for their kids!

Dr. Lancaster is great. We adopted a 8yr old cat and he was having severe digestive issues. To him to Wheaton first since it was closer but $900 later still he was suffering. Went to Dr. Lancaster and he listened and took an X-ray. Wound up out cats entire intestines was riddled with cancer. We only had him 4 months. Dr. Lancaster was so nice about it and let us know his options. It was best to put him down. Broke our hearts. That was our first cat and we take our new cat now just to see him. Worth the drive.

The customer with the bad review is completely wrong - their criticism is their problem not the hospitals. Dr Zabel and his staff are awesome - we have used this hospital for 6+ yrs for our dog Ben and our cats - they are always wonderful, try to save us money when they can and we always get an appointment when we want to. We face the final decision shortly with Ben and we wouldnt take him anywhere else. God Bless you all.
