I have been bringing my pets to this vet for years. I have even adopted a cat from here as well. Dr. Shakir is a great vet. However, the staff that works up front / assistants are horrible. They are very disorganized and they seem like they barely know how to do their job. I miss the two girls that used to work there when I first started bringing my pets there. They were on top of everything and never missed a beat with their job. These new girls are just not good and I think they should be replaced. Theyre nice but maybe the job theyre in right now is not the one for them. They are the reason I am giving this place 3 starts instead of 5. I love this place so much but not with these new girls that work there. Please either replace them or train them better. Also, I am not too fond of the other vets there. They dont seem like they know what theyre talking about. I know Dr. Shakir cant be there always, but his fill ins arent that bright and I was nervous to let them look at my pet. I dont understand why one vet saw my pet and then 5 minutes later a different vet came in and looked at my pet too for an opinion. Why was a second opinion needed? Shouldnt the first vet have known what he was talking about? Anyway, Dr. Shakir is great at least and always very helpful. The pricing here is wonderful as well.

Dr. Shakir and his staff are truly the best vets I have been to in the Chicago region, and I would HIGHLY recommend his practice to anyone in Oak Park, River Forest, or Chicago who is looking for an excellent vet. Over the years I have taken my cat to several different vets in Chicago and Oak Park, and was always shocked by the high prices and long waits for appointments. Then I went to Melrose Park Animal Hospital and I havent gone anywhere else since! I have one cat of my own, and I am also a foster home for Speciality Purebred Cat Rescue, so I have a lot of foster cats who need care. Our rescue needs a vet who is reasonably priced and experienced. Dr. Shakir definitely fits the bill! He truly cares about each cat and always has practical recommendations to make them feel better quickly when theyre sick. He never makes you wait and is always upfront about costs. He is very committed to rescue and serves as the shelter for the Melrose Park area. Dr. Shakir has years of experience and I always trust his input, and he has done a ton of surgeries on cats for our rescue and they have always been very successful. Again, if you live in Oak Park, River Forest or Chicago, I encourage you to check out MPAH - you will be glad that you did!

Im sorry but I highly disagree with Y Noriega.! I was just there 3 weeks ago as well for an exam on my dog, Lavi and my kitty, Socks. I had an awesome experience. Socks was really sick and they took care of her right away. Lavi just needed her nail trim but they did really well in holding her down because she gets so antsy sometimes. The new staff and Dr. Shakir were great, not to mention theyve only been there for a couple months. The place itself looks nicer, brighter, and doesnt smell bad like youd think. Also, they are a No Kill facility and have had successful adoptions for strays; that caught my heart!! It shows that they really do care about the animals, let alone Your pet. Im definately going back again. <3

Bruno, my Wheaten Terrier baby was Melrose Park Animal Hospitals first patient :). The office was not opened yet, they were in the middle of the moving process but when they saw him they said : yes , come in, lets see what is wrong with the puppy. The even took the picture as Bruno being their first patient. It is now almost three years and I have my second baby :) Rufus. We are going there once a year for the shuts and for all kind of problems they have and we are really happy with the doctors and the way they take care of my dogs. I recommended them to all my friends and they are coming here with their pets from Chicago, Niles and Morton Grove even if they have animal hospitals closer to their home.

Excellent. I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Shakir for over 4 years now. He is an excellent vet with a great deal of experience. The services offered at the clinic are very affordable, and most important of all Dr. Shakir does not prescribe or recommend unnecessary treatments like other vets do to rack up the bill. I highly encourage everyone with pets (regardless of where you live in Chicagoland) to visit him when your pet needs medical attention.

The service was excellent my dog CoCo was very ill. She tore her acl and was in a lot of pain. This Dr. and staff did an amazing job with her. The Dr. called his partner to come to office and they were able to do an emergency surgery same day. I highly recommend this office to family and friends. They have earned a loyal customer for life. The follow-up was great. The Dr. Kept his word and kept me informed on CoCo recovery from beginning to the end.

Im sorry I can give it less than 0 because thats what they deserve. Horrible service, no communication after new "management" came along. Lost our pets record, finally found it after we called. Failed to send a prescription to an online Rx, twice within 6 months. Since they couldnt find the record they wanted us to come in to get our dog tested again. It seems that they are in it for the money and not for our pet....Never going back again!

this place is awesome my puppy was diagnosed with parvovirus i already lost 1 of my baby from this disease but the doctor told me they will try to save him but i have to come to the clinic everyday for few days and now my baby is totally fine.

The staff, although friendly, do not seem to know anything. I feel like my pets health isnt seen as their priority. My cat is very ill and they do not tend to his health needs the way I expected.
