After I discovered that my cat was still having ill effects after eating 8 inch long and 1/2 inch wide of fleece string I decided to call my vet. My usual vet doesnt offer any emergency care after hours, which is now something I feel needs to addressed. All local vets were closed and offered and encouraged emergency services to be directed to Indianapolis. I thought that was insane. That is a whole different issue. I finally called a vet, Town & Country, and they were able to see my cat. I dealt with Kevin first when we arrived around 7:30 pm and he was absolutely wonderful. He was very caring and thorough and answered all of my questions well. The building was kind of dirty and run down. The exam room showed lots of rust on equipment and there was an X-Ray machine with a big chunk missing. The floors were stained and it needed a new paint job terribly. However, I know you cant judge a vet offices performance by their looks. They have been around a while, but I seriously think replacing old things isnt a bad idea either. We waited around two hours for Dr. Royer to walk in with dirty work boots on and blue jeans. He also had a trucker cap on and his scrub top looked like it hadnt been washed in a few weeks. (Also to mention that vet tech Kevin was wearing flip flops.) Initially I was put off. He was very nice, though, and talked as if he had been through this before. I had no worries when leaving my pet overnight because I felt the people were great, not so much with the building and dress code standards. So, with Dr. Royer deciding to keep my pet overnight it was left at that. Kevin came back in and went over all of the estimations so I would have an idea of cost. At this point, we were looking at doing a few X-Rays, barium treatment, and possible surgery if there was an obstruction (the fleece hanging around). They ended up doing seven X-Rays within the first 24 hours, but Kevin assured me over the phone when he called to update me that we would only be charged with two. They werent quite sure what they were seeing, so they wanted to keep her again overnight. I was told I would not be charged extra for that, too. I called to get updates at times and they called me with some and often the messages were kind of vague. I was led to believe Friday night that we would know for sure by Saturday evening if she needed surgery. At this point, I was just thankful they were keeping an eye out for her this closely and felt they needed to do more X-Ray testing. She was not eating of having any bowel movements. The X-Ray testing wasnt quite clear at this point apparently. By Sunday, they STILL werent sure when I finally called them late in the afternoon. How many X-Rays did this kitty have to endure? How UNSURE was Dr. Royer? I started to get a little irritable. They wanted to keep her a third night and I refused. I drove down to the clinic and wanted a thorough update in person, which Dr. Royer said he was just unsure of what he was seeing and wanted to do exploratory surgery. He showed me the X-Ray films. I understand that it can be difficult to determine if an object is still hanging around, but this was getting to be a pain. Oh, and just for notes, Dr. Royer still had on dirty blue jeans and dirty boots and a hat when we visited again. He doesnt seem professional at all. Maybe hes nice, but looks mean a lot when youre caring for my animal. I decided to just take all records, including films, and make an appt. with her actual vet for a second opinion. While, I respect Dr. Royer and his staff, Im unsure if they should be taking care of emergencies. I heard "we are just unsure at this point" one too many times. So, all in all, using this facility for emergent care is fine because its all Bloomington has. Do not let the do surgery, though! Get the basics you need for your pets health for the night and go back to your vet!

They are OK, but if you pet doesnt have a appointment the they charge you triple the amount and call it an emergency appointment. This place is costly. Plus, when I brought my pet in the first time they told me one thing about my dog and that it is not nothing they could do for her. Then then the next time I brought her and this is when they triple charged me. They told me that she needs to see a specialist and that she is not a normal dog because of her ears. But last time I was here, there was nothing that they could do for her. That whats on her ears is her blood vessels and its causing her to have a fungus on her ears. They told me that there was nothing they could do. Then the next time I bring her shes got bad genes and that she needs a specialist. She is fine now. She is playing and growing and she is happy. She is fine. This place also took a second parvo test in one month on one one dog. It has to be parvo! More money out of my pocket and both times she came up negative. This place I owe money to now because it cost so much money for a puppy to be seen with out an appointment and they call it an emergency. They werent that busy and I got her there before they closed so they shouldnt have put us through that and charged me so much for one puppy.

Took my new shelter cat in for a checkup due to some bathroom trouble and constant loose stool. Did a full screening and I insisted on a full parasite test just to make sure she was 100% ok. I was told everything came back ok and she probably just had a weak stomach and i needed to control her diet. She does not improve for 2 months take her in for a 2nd opinion and find out SHE HAS WORMS. So badly infected with worms in fact there should have been no instance or mistake with the screening. Either someone really screwed up or they didnt actually do the test. Ive read alot of good reviews and used those in my search for a vet. All i know is that they charged me $100 dollars in tests and missed what another vet identified as the worst case of worms he has ever seen and she likely has had them all her life. BE VERY CAREFUL DEALING WITH THIS VET.

For the person claiming to have used Town & Country Vet on a Sunday that is impossible since they arent open on Sunday!!! I have been a client with Dr. Shake, the new owner, for over 3 years. He was employed by the previous owner of Town & Country. Dr. Shake just took over the facility in January 2013. As any staff member there will tell you, I am extremely picky about who cares for my animals, even over the tech that assists the vet. I highly recommend Dr. Shake and his staff, they are loving, understanding, & looking out for the best interest of the animals.
