I am almost 60 years old and have worn glasses since I was a teenager and have been to LOTS of different places to purchase eyeglasses and this is the most PATHETIC business that I have ever seen. Years ago Dr. Tavel had an amazing reputation WHAT HAPPENED. I cannot stress enough what a low class pathetic place this is to go to for glasses. Several employees there BUT one was sleeping with her head on the front desk the others sitting at the same desk were all laughing and were so LOUD about personal things that I had a very very hard time even concentrating to fill out my paperwork. I went to a different I was told by eyeglass business employee at a different eyeglass business when I mentioned the behavior at 10th and Mitthoeffer Dr. Tavel the employee at a DIFFERENT NICE PROFESSIONAL eyeglass BUSINESS well here is what she said "THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT GO TO DR. TAVEL NOW ARE MADE TO GO THERE BECAUSE THEY HAVE FREE WELFARE INSURANCE AND TAVEL IS ONE OF THE FEW THAT ACCEPTS THE WELFARE INSURANCE. SHE SAID OTHERWISE TAVEL WOULD NOT HAVE ANY CUSTOMERS AT ALL BECAUSE OF THE HORRIBLE EMPLOYEES THAT WORK THERE. I totally agree with what she said because I have NEVER EVER seen such horrible behavior of employees at a business. WHO OWNS THIS PLACE? DO THE OWNERS NOT CARE AT ALL ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS? OR THEY DO NOT CARE BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT PEOPLE WHO HAVE HIP INSURANCE ARE MADE TO GO THERE SO IF THOSE PEOPLE ARE MADE TO GO THERE THAT YOU CAN JUST TREAT THEM ANY WAY YOU WANT? I AM A BUSINESS WOMAN AND I WOULD FIRE EVERY EMPLOYEE AT THAT FRONT DESK. ALSO, WHEN YOUR GLASSES COME IN AND YOU PICK THEM UP THEY JUST HAND THEM TO YOU NO OFFER FOR A FITTING OR EVEN ASKED IF THE GLASSES ARE OK...BELIEVE ME NOBODY AT THAT FRONT DESK CARES AT ALL. THE EYE DOCTOR WAS GREAT I FEEL VERY SORRY FOR HIM HAVING TO WORK WITH SUCH LOW CLASS STAFF. THERE ARENT WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW HIDEOUS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SO IF YOUR INSURANCE RESTRICTS YOU TO CERTAIN PLACES TO OBTAIN YOUR GLASSES GO ANYWHERE EVEN IF YOU HAVE A LONGER DRIVE GO ANYWHERE ELSE BECAUSE ANYWHERE ELSE HAS TO BEBETTER THAN THIS PLACE. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE AGAIN I WOULD DRIVE AN EXTRA HOUR TO AVOID GOING TO THIS LOW CLASS PLACE WELL IT IS NOT THE PLACE IT IS THE FRONT DESK EMPLOYEES. I PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR MY GLASSES THERE AND I PAID CASH BUT NEVER EVER AGAIN. I FELT MORE LIKE I WAS IN A NOISY LOW CLASS BAR IN A BAD NEIGHBORHOOD THAN AN EYEGLASS BUSINESS. SHAME SHAME ON EMPLOYEES THAT COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYER OR THE FACT THAT THEIR BEHAVIOR IS COSTING THE OWNER MONEY BY RUNNING OFF CASH PAYING CUSTOMERS LIKE ME. THEY WILL GO BANKRUPT IF THEY LOSE THE INSURANCE COMPANY THAT MAKES PEOPLE HAVE TO GO THERE. I ALSO HOPE THE EMPLOYEE THAT HAD HER HEAD DOWN ON THE DESK IS NOW REFRESHED FROM HER NAP I STILL DONT KNOW HOW SHE SLEPT WITH ALL WITH ALL THE LOUD AND I MEAN LOUD IMMATURE BAHAVIOR OF THE OTHER FRONT DESK EMPLOYEES. I DO NOT LEAVE REVIEWS BUT THIS WAS SO PATHETIC I DO NOT WANT OTHERS TO GO THROUGH WHAT I DID...

I have recently begun taking my family to this location. I have other family that did not get great service, but I knew they would take our insurance and so I gave it a try. Initially I thought the service was poor. Front desk staff were on their phones on facebook and making personal calls. I said I wasnt going back but I had another child who needed glasses. On my second visit I noticed one person who was taking charge of the front desk and telling people to get off their phones and help the customers. Her name was Evilyn. She helped me in a number of ways. After my daughter lost her glasses, Evilyn helped us get her RX and direct us how to replace them. She worked with me personally to order my glasses despite my not having an appointment. I assumed she was the manager because she was efficient and continued to direct the front desk staff. Ive probably been to the office 5 times in the past four months and each time Ive been in she is helping the front desk staff solve problems for other customers. Ironically she is not the manager. As a manager myself, I respect an employee going the extra mile. I would love to have an employee with such dedication. Promote her and I think you would have much better reviews. 3 stars for office, 5 stars for Evilyn.

Please, get your eye care elsewhere. I came for my appointment today (a Saturday)and was told that they didnt have any of my information and hadnt verified my insurance and wouldnt be seeing me today. Their explanation was, "Well, you didnt give us your information and now our servers are down." I told them that when I made the appointment 2 weeks earlier, I sat on the phone for 20 minutes while the guy who answered the call slowly took down my name, address, phone number, date of birth, name of vision insurance and social security number (which I hated to give over the phone). Their reply was, "Well, we dont have it and if we did, then someone should have verified it yesterday and they didnt and now we have no computers." They offered to see if the manager would let me make another appointment (What?!?!?), but I told them that if this is my experience as a new patient, I would be going elsewhere. Medicine is a business and they dont deserve mine.

I have been taking my family to this location for a few years. We have never gotten good customer service, but I put up with it because they accepted our insurance and they were close to where we live. At this point I would rather drive a half hour and self pay at another eye doctor... and we are doing that now. They messed up my daughters glasses, so we took them back to get them corrected. All they had to do was switch out the lenses, it has been two and a half weeks so we called them and they had no record of us bringing the glasses back. Now it is going to be another week before she has the correct glasses to wear. This has been the absolute worst experience I have ever had with any company I have ever dealt with and I will never use any Tavel office ever again. I will not recommend this company to anyone, friend or enemy.

Went in to pick up my glasses last week and I couldnt see out if them. I had to be measured for my bifocals which should have been done at the time of my exam. They had to send the glasses back to have the bifocals redone. I got a text message saying the glasses we back and ready for pick on 12/10. Got there yesterday and I was told they dont have my glasses that they were sent to the wrong office. I called today to follow up to see if they were found I was told yes they were sent to the wrong office they should be in the office tomorrow. No sooner than 5 minutes later I get a call back saying the glasses are lost and have to be remade they should be back by next week, I was so irate all I could do was hang up. Wish I read the reviews before I went in there. SO SUCH A UNHAPPY CUSTOMER.
