Great Place to take your dog or cat! Why is it people only want to write negative comments. I found it my responsibility to respond and write my personal experience with Dr. Hein. Dr. Hein has been very professional with every encounter and procedure he had done for my family and our two cats. Anytime Dr. Hein makes a recommendation it is just that a recommendation and lets you make the decision. An example, our 15 year old cat began urinating very frequently so I took him in. Dr Hein did a visual look at the cat and presumed he was diabetic. He said to be sure we would need to do a quick test and we would know. Also he gave us several options on how to treat this. The most extensive options would be insulin shots daily and other invasive items. My family and I decided to just keep the cat comfortable and give him what he wanted. After I had brought the cat in several times and never did the test that Dr. Hein recommended he finally did one of the test for me and did not charge me just for our peace of mind. When the time came to put the cat down because of his illness it was a very difficult time in our family. Dr Hein and his staff were very professional and very empathetic to the situation. I could go on and on about several instances where I have been very pleased with his work and the way he handles situations. Anyone with a pet knows that it is very expensive to take them to the vet and the vets job is to give you all possible options to make sure your pet lives as comfortably for the short time they do. Remember all care is your options not requirement but the vets job is to make sure you are educated and informed on the situation. Please disregard the other comment who did not like Dr. Hein and judge for your self. I highly recommend him and his staff!!

I want to start off by saying my experience seeing Dr. Nathan Hein was a good one but unfortunately, other parts of my visits were very negative. Dr. Hein was very thorough and caring during our initial appointment but we had to wait an hour after our scheduled appointment time to see him. On following visits for vaccine boosters, I encountered rude staff and was given attitude when I asked to remain with my dog while they administered the vaccines. I dont feel this is an unusual request and I do it for the safety of my dog. On my most recent visit, I found the bill for a vaccine booster to be rather excessive. After calling other area vets, I found Heartland charges nearly double for the vaccine not to mention a technician appointment fee which other vets do not charge for. A fee of almost seven dollars seems overkill when the shot administration took less than thirty seconds. On comparison with past bills, I found this to be a trend with other vaccines as well. The vaccine fees were all nearly double what other vets charge. I am more than happy to pay for great veterinary care for my pets but also dont want to be overcharged. I dont doubt that Dr. Hein is a great doctor but my experience with the staff and the excessive fees has me frustrated and I will be going elsewhere for veterinary care in the future.

My cat had gotten sick over the weekend and as the days were progressing, there were no signs of her getting better. My fiancé and I are recently new to the Marion area which means that we did not have a local family vet. As Monday morning rolled around, our concerns grew because she was not showing any signs of improvement. We started the tedious process of calling vets in the area that we felt were trustworthy and that could get us in for a same day appointment. Every place had turned us down, until we called Heartland. Their receptionist stated that although they were completely booked up, we could come in and they would do their best to work us into their schedule. Not only were they able to make time for us, but Dr. McMillan and staff stayed an extra hour afterhours to make sure that my cat was treated, had all the proper medication, and that I was educated throughout the entire process. Days have passed since our initial visit and Dr. McMillan has personally called us to check-in. Everyone at this office has been so accommodating and kind. I am happy to have found our new trusted family vet!

Dr. Hein and his staff treat our dogs as though they are their own. Dr. Hein always gives us options and never pressures us to choose one thing over the other. He is honest and does not push us to do things that are not necessary and he always starts out with the most probable test/options first. We have never felt like we were being "nickeled and dimed" or overcharged. The staff at Heartland are wonderful, kind and compassionate. They are never "too busy" for your phone calls or questions and if they dont know the answer, they find it for you. Dr. Hein has removed multiple mast cell tumors from our boxers and they always heal well and without infection or complications. When we drop Nala or Rocky off for the day for surgery or other things, I am not worried because I know they are in good hands and getting love and attention!

One our dogs had a sudden emergency and our regular veterinarian was closed..our daughter called ahead to Heartland for my wife and son...Heartland worked us into their already busy schedule, did everything they could and were very patient with our questions. We ended up having to take her to surgery, and Dr. Hein and his staff stayed late to make sure that we didnt have to take her to the emergency clinic that we could not afford. We are so happy that our puppy is doing well and want to thank everyone at Heartland for their compassion and care.

Our rescue dog has anxiety issues and weve had her at two vets that added to her anxiety. A friend suggested Heartland Animal Hospital and Im so glad I made the call. The staff is so friendly and they loved on my dog. They did all they could to keep her from having anxiety and they kept us informed on her care. It was such a wonderful experience for our girl and it was for us as well. She is family and they took care of her. I will definitely be bringing her back.

Dr. Hein and his staff have been amazing. He has helped us with several pets with some difficult health issues and has gone above and beyond to help find solutions. The entire staff has been so friendly with our pets and makes us feel confident that they are getting the best care possible. The level of care and diagnostics are well above your average vet clinic. I would not hesitate to recommend Heartland Animal Hospital to my friends and family.

I agree with the other post. I was pleased until Dr. Hein became the owner. He recommended a tooth extraction for my 12 year old dog that would cost $600-$1000! Who would pay that? Unnecessary tests, ridiculous rates. We now drive all the way to Monticello but it is well worth the drive to know that we are not being nickel and dimed for everything and overpaying for basic services.
