I was just reading the excellent reviews of Lone Oak Animal Clinic (they are the BEST!) when it occurred to me to see if there were reviews of Heartland Veterinary Hospital where I had the WORST experience ever! Last summer my shih tzu got mauled by another dog. She didnt try to get up, so I was afraid it was pretty bad. I was afraid my shih tzu mignt not make it to our usual vet 20 minutes away, so I pulled into Heartland which was just a few minutes from home. I asked the vet if he would see my dog. He let out a big sigh and said "I guess..." as if he didnt want to be bothered, although no one else was there. He took my dog into a room and within a couple minutes came out to tell me he would have to put her under anesthesia to examine her, keep her overnight and I could pick her up the next day. I asked why she had to be put under, because she is such a tame dog and was showing no aggression, she could hardly even move. He said it was for her safety and his. That just didnt sound right to me because I had had a couple other dogs get in fights and our usual vet never even suggested putting them under for an exam. Any GOOD vet would know anyway that flat-faced breeds are more susceptible to dying under anesthesia. And how could he know she needed to be kept overnight when he hadnt even examined her yet??!! Well, by this time my dog had caught her breath and was trying to get out of the box, and I was less worried about her dying en route. This vet started making some unneccessary and cruel remarks to me about the fact that I "let" my dog get attacked, which was certainly not the case as she was in our fenced in back yard when it happened and my dog that did it had never shown aggression to her before. I just had a bad, bad feeling about this man, the fact that he had seemed to not want to treat her in the first place, then that he wanted to put her under just to do the exam and keep her overnight before even knowing if that was necessary. I have a pretty good nose for sniffing out unsavory charachters and he was one if I ever saw one. So I told this vet that I changed my mind and would take my dog on to our usual vet. At that point he started screaming at me that he didnt want to see my dog anyway and for me to get out of his office. I told him he was pathetic. Then he started hurling every four letter word in the book at me, in front of my already terrified dog that had just been attacked. This guy just did not quit! He was steady screaming at me, even following me into the parking lot screaming until I was in my truck with the door shut. At that point I understood why his parking lot was always empty and why no one else had been in the office. This vet is crazy explosive and had there not been a female employee there at the time, I wonder what he might have done to me! I felt sorry for her for sure, as he probably treats his staff the same way. I took my dog to Lone Oak Animal Clinic where they took care of my dog with no sedation at all and sent her on home. She was just shaken up with a few minor puncture wounds. All she needed was some antibiotics and pain reliever and she was fine within a few days. It seems pretty obvious to me that this vet was looking to bilk me out of a bunch of money by providing unneccessary treatment. Hes also volitile and should be considered dangerous!!!

October 26, 2016. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I was referred to this vet by my neighbor, and I went because I was told he had fair pricing, and was good with their puppy. Heres my story. I had a seven month old mixed puppy who was refusing to eat her food, and then getting ill. I figured it was probably pickiness, but I took her to the vet to make sure she didnt have any underlying stomach problems. I arrived, filled out the appropriate papers, and was greeted by Dr. Potter in the waiting room. He asked me what I was there for, and listened. Then he glanced over at my dog, and proceeded to tell me it was entirely my fault and I wasnt giving her enough "tough love". He said put chicken and rice soup in her meals and only feed her milk bones for treats. I happen to not agree with feeding my dog milk bones, but I didnt say anything and let him finish talking. When we were done he charged me $45... I never saw an exam room, he never touched my dog, he didnt even take her current weight. I took my dog back home then returned to tell him how unhappy I was with his business. He responded to my unhappiness with complete unprofessionalism! He claimed that he charges $75 for a consolation and cut ME a deal by charging me $45 because I "looked like I needed help". So presuming he DID cut me a deal I asked him how much it would cost for him to give her an exam that day, and he couldnt even answer... then I asked how much to just bring her in for a vaccination, to which he replied $45 for the appointment alone. However, I knew my neighbors were only charged for the vaccination, and NOT an appointment, as is practice for a considerable amount of vets. That is because it only takes around 5 minutes to administer a vaccination. When confronted he simply said "thats my price, if you want a good vet you have to pay for it". Problem is...I DID NOT get a good vet..I got a fraud who charges whatever he feels like for absolutely no work. I am more than willing to pay for a good vet, but you will find no such vet at Heartland veterinary hospital.

IF YOU LOVE OR EVEN CARE ABOUT YOUR PET(S), DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THEM TO Heartland Veterinary Clinic. THE NOT ONLY LACK OF RESPECT BUT COMPLETE DISRESPECT IS ABSURD AND UTTERLY SHOCKING. DALE, ONE PERSON WHO MAY ANSWER THE PHONE OR MAY BE LACKING IN MANHOOD IN ORDER TO ANSWER, IS RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND WILL MOST LIKELY HANG-UP THE PHONE ON YOU, AS HE DID TO ME. HE SHOULD NOT, LET ME REITERATE, SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED IN ANY SENSE. ALSO DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF HE TRIES TO "SPIN THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE" ON HOW MUCH ANY SERVICES WILL COST. THEY ARE OVERPRICED IN COMPARISON TO ANY AND ALL LOCAL VETS AND CLINICS, AND SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD SO YOU, YOUR FRIENDS, OR ANY OF YOUR PETS ARE NOT MENTALLY RAPED BY THIS PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A PERSON NAMED DALE, WHO CURRENTLY BUT HOPEFULLY NOT FOR LONG, WORKS UNDER Dr. Potter. SINCERELY, ONE VERY GLAD PERSON TO SHARE THIS WORD OF TRUTH AND WHOM DID NOT SUBJECT MY BABY TO THIS HORRIFIC AND DISRESPECTFUL EXPERIENCE!!
