I dont write many reviews as usually other peoples ratings are accurate to my experience also, however in this case I disagree with the negative reviews. I called, walked into or actually took my dog to over 5 different vets in BR, based on internet reviews or friends advice. All of them were terrible. I found this place on the website of the dog food I use (Natures Variety - ranked 5/5 for dog health) so I gave it a try. Firstly, I only discovered recently that a visit to the vet does not have to be an awful experience for a dog, it can actually be something they enjoy. My visit here was like that. I have a 4 month old lab mix that was found on the side of a road. I took her in for a tic bite that got infected. Everybody fussed over her, gave her treats and made her think she was doing something fun. They got down to her level if needed, even Dr Barrilleaux, who was very good with her. Instead of pinning her down and freaking her out, they distracted her and she barely noticed the less pleasant things that she had to go through. They were patient and careful and the doctor. explained things well, in a logical way and did not just try and run up a huge bill with shots and tests as I have had other vets attempt to do. She had a lot of knowledge and gave a lot of good advice. The last vet I went to said a lot of things that did not make sense, and when I researched what he said, he was wrong on many. Dr Barrilleaux was not like that and what I looked up from what she said was confirmed. I will stick with the Animal Health Clinic for any pet needs I have. If you care about your pet, their experience at the vet, and the quality of care/level of the Doctor. examining them, then I highly recommend this place. Also, in terms of other reviews that spoke about issues with the administration of the place, I have had limited dealing with them, but they were always courteous, friendly and helpful.

We picked up a stray cat and brought him here for an initial check-up. He stayed the night and supposedly received his check up in the morning. They told us that the cat was 4 months old and needed to be neutered because he was starting to mature. They also told us that he may have an eye infection. We then asked them to do a leukemia vaccine. We left the vet after paying a hefty fee for barely anything. Two days later we brought him Baton Rouge Spay and Neuter to get him fixed. They not only told us that the cat was already neutered but was also about a year old. This confused us very much because the previous vet told us a much different story. I called the Animal Health Center vet and asked for a refund because I dont believe they even examined the cat. The vet was the most condescending person I have ever dealt with. She claimed that the records had it that the cat was 8 months old and neutered. I asked her why the tech would have told us differently, and she replied that she would have to address her staff. Nothing would be done to help us even though they gave a completely incorrect report. This is by far the worst vet I have ever been to. They are incompetent and should not be trusted with your animals. Even though they clearly made a mistake, the vet refused to admit it and instead treated me with disdain. I am a college student, and I am fairly certain that they were taking advantage of me. This is a money hungry, incompetent vet with terrible business ethics. Never go to this vet unless you enjoy being duped!!!

When I first got my pup, I needed to get shots for her. I was new to Baton Rouge and figured all vets probably charge the same price and are reasonable. Their costs for each round of puppy shots always came out to be $150 dollars. That is way too expensive. Well I paid it twice for two rounds of shots and then wanted to look into spaying my pup. They were going to charge $350 to spay my pup. After hearing that price, I started calling around and asking co-workers where to find a better price and care. I went to another place in Baker and only paid $150 in total for the spaying and havent looked back since. I still go to the same vet(Dr. George Lobrano at Comite Drive Animal Hospital) who spayed my pup and he only charges a 1/3 of what Animal Health Clinic does for services and meds and I get much better service. Wish I had started going to him in the beginning!

I like this clinic very much. We have two cats. One of the cats is very difficult to deal with. I left previous clinic, because the vet was operating using as called it a"gas chamber" for regular visits. My cat was miserable after those visits. He had a very strong reaction to that gas... At the Animal Health Clinic nobody was thinking about using gas. My cat always behaved well! About customer service. It is wonderful. They will do theirs best to accommodate us at a convenient for us time. Iryna, Barsik, Vasiliy and now Lily

Wouldnt know what to do without Dr. Hackett!! Best clinician ever! He has been all my pets veterinarian for over 30 years. Dr. Leonards is also another excellent, caring, and thorough clinician in the practice. The entire staff is caring, knowledge, and professional. Can not imagine taking my pets anywhere else. Being a healthcare provider myself, I know that these clinicians know what they are doing and I have the utmost confidence in their clinical and diagnostic skills. You wont be disappointed.

AWESOME JOB!!! A HUGE THANK YOU to Anna and Dr. Barrilleaux who called everyone trying to find a home for Peaches, a rescued Pit Bull who desperately needs a happily ever-after home! How you both responded in caring for Peaches went Above And Beyond.... words cannot express how much I sincerely appreciate your time and effort. It meant the world to me and I know it certainly meant saving a life, and without a doubt, her life is so very precious! Thank you again, Shannon

Boarded My dog there and they did not give me any information. The were supposed to pull my dogs shot records but decided to just go ahead and give her shots WITHOUT talking to me first. Meg (who I spoke with) was not a help at all. Apparently its my fault that they gave my dog shots she did not need. This place is very not considerate of the patients and owners at all. Would not recommend them to anyone who truly cares for their pet.

When my dog was having severe breathing distress while I was out of town, Dr. Leonards and Dr. Hackett gave him incredible attention and were constantly calling me to keep me informed of the situation. When they realized, he needed to be transferred to an emergency treatment facility, Dr. Hackett personally drove my dog there. I cannot thank them enough for the loving care they showed my dog!!!

Dr. Leonards is the best! I have a small pomeranian who has issues with anethesia. He listens to my concerns and helped figure out a game plan that would be best suited for my little guy. All of the gals at the front desk are always so sweet and helpful as well as the other technicians. I highly recommend!
