Banfield was great.....years ago. Now they are all about making the most money regardless of what is best for your pet. We took our 13 year old cat to them with very labored breathing and not eating or drinking. We had to drop him off. We received a call from the doctor wanting to run tests and an offer of the wellness plan. They ran tests and gave him antibiotics because he "may" have a respiratory infection (even though his chest sounded clear) or a UTI. They also did a Thyroid test. If that did not help, more tests, x-rays or exploratory surgery. The next morning his breathing was even more labored, he still had not eaten or drank any water and he seemed to be giving up. We came to the hard decision to let him go and not put him through more torment especially having gone nearly three days without food or water. We took him back and were basically scolded by a vet tech ( the doctor was not there Monday morning either). We voiced our concerns over dehydration and kidney failure due to not eating. She told us he was not "that" dehydrated the day before and the more labored breathing was just stress from feeling bad. We were also told it is not Banfields policy to euthanize animals until all options were explored. We opted to take him for a second opinion. The vet we took him to, saw the labored breathing and listened to his chest. The cats chest was full of fluid, and he told us the "abdominal breathing" and fluid indicated he was suffering from heart failure. He offered x-rays (which he said should have been done before blood tests based on the breathing issues) but, said they are often inconclusive. He did not push treatments on us and was very compassionate and honest letting us know there were tests and procedures that could extend his life, but based on his age would not really improve its quality. Our friend is now resting in peace, no thanks to the corporate, money first policies of Banfield.

I have been with Banfield for almost a year now and my two cats go out to see them. Last week my cat looked sick since Sunday and noticed he has not been eating at all. I tried taking him in to be seen on Monday but they were only available to see him Tuesday morning. Tuesday would have been 3 days with him not eating or drinking and was worried about Liver and kidney problems that revolve around cats not eating or drinking for 3 days. I dropped him off and they called me back and he was really dehydrated and they could not get any blood out of him so they asked if they could give him an IV bag for fluids he perked up a little but would just lay in the corner. Once they got the blood there was only enough blood to do half a panel check and found that for not eating for 3 days he ended up with a fatty liver and was in Renal Failure and kidneys were going bad and found out he was severely diabetic. They suggested he be in the hospital for at least 3 days but was not guaranteed anything and after that he would still need a lot of care due to the diabetes. We decided to lay him to rest as he was really suffering and the staff was so great and gave us time to grieve and be with him before and after the process. They offered no wellness plans like everyone was talking about in the other posts. I decided to bring his ashes home and was provided a lovely urn. They also sent me a sympathy card and when I opened it they had gotten his paw print which melted my heart and I was so happy they did that. He was very dear to me and the staff was wonderful and kind. My other cat still goes there and I will be forever grateful for their help. Thank you Banfield for everything!

The staff is friendly & helpful...Ive never had a bad experience. I also dont know why everyone is complaining about their health plans. I signed up our Beagle when she was just a puppy and shes 7 years old now. The health plan covers her annual exams (including blood work, shots, & fecal exams) plus one teeth cleaning per year. Theyve saved us THOUSANDS. The only thing we pay for is the heartworm, flea/tick prevention, and to get her nails trimmed & anal glands expressed. Weve taken her to be seen ~3-4 times (outside of her annual check-ups) and each time theyre friendly and helpful, and the out-of-pocket cost is minimal because we get a discount on those exams as well. We also get a printout of the total cost it would have been without the plan and a running total of how much the plan has saved us. Read the fine print before you sign up for anything and youll probably not be disappointed. If youre not willing to commit to this plan long-term, then it most definitely is not for you. Otherwise, its a great investment.

Our experience was fantastic. We were visiting family over the weekend and our poor, ailing 10.5 year old dog took a turn for the worse. He was in a lot of pain on Saturday night and we knew the time had come to end his suffering. We needed to be back home (4 hrs away) the next day and were afraid wed have to drive home with him in so much pain. We searched early Sunday morning for vets that were open on Sunday. Banfield was the only vet in the area open and so we called first thing in the morning and they agreed to take us. I am sure they deal with pet owners crying their eyes out all the time, but they were incredibly sensitive and compassionate with us and our dog. It was a very respectful and peaceful last few minutes and we are incredibley grateful for their convenient hours and ability to fit us in. Our dog was part of our family and we will not forget how lucky we were to have found this vet.

I am giving one star only because 0 isnt available. RUN from this joke. Or at least do NOT...DO NOT buy their "plans" and ever cancel them. Not that its unfair to pay for services ... their services are outrageously priced as they want to drive you to their wellness plans. But if, for ANY reason, you must cancel - you will pay those crazy prices. And...by the way - you have to call their 1-888 number to cancel. Just a billing question is immediate but it is at least a 25 minute wait for the cancellation line. So obviously they have a lot of cancellations. Just be forewarned, plans may work for you...it did not for me.

These "vets" are scam artists. They reel you into signing up for their wellness plans, making no mention of what is ACTUALLY involved in them, and then when you no longer even own the pet you got the plan for, they wont let you cancel because apparently you owed them $500 for literally nothing. My cat had intestinal problems. They gave me 3 medicines that I paid out of pocket for, they did NOTHING, and apparently they did a bunch of tests that I wasnt even aware of, which didnt help either because 8 months later, she still has these issues. Stay FAR AWAY FROM BANFIELD. They only want your money.
