I like to think of myself as being quite active, but when I got sidelined earlier this year with a lower calf injury, I knew I needed help. I asked around, connecting with my fellow active types and was told by more than a few that I should go see Active Physical Therapy and Lucas McCollum. Well, my friends were absolutely correct in their recommendations. After an initial diagnostic review with Lynn, the chief physical therapist there, I moved onward in the process for a series of twice-a-week therapeutic sessions with Lucas and team. One of the things that most impressed me was the immediate acceptance that I wanted and needed to continue with some level of physical activity while also taking the time to rest certain muscle groups and taking part in therapy in order to heal. Almost immediately, I began to see results and was moving towards less pain and discomfort quickly. Lucas and team stayed with the process until a time when I could manage the exercises and therapy on my own. Within a couple of months, I was back to being pain-free and able to exercise without concern. I highly recommend Active Physical Therapy for anyone who doesnt want to be sidelined with injury or discomfort. They "got" me, knew what I was going through, and set a course for healing in very short order.

I have visited Active Physical Therapy for a few issues over the last few years, and they have been outstanding. After experiencing a stroke in December, I was left with very limited motor skills. Some physical therapy and occupational therapy in the hospital and an outpatient clinic was able to get me out of a wheel chair and walking, but still with a very limited range of motion. I started seeing Lucas McCollum in June, and have seen HUGE improvements since then. I have gone from having a very unsteady gait, limited control of my arms and hands, and difficulty with most household tasks to being able to walk steady – to being able to lightly jog, having significantly better control of my upper extremities, and am no longer afraid of use a knife in the kitchen, worried of dropping a plate, can now fold laundry, etc. This entire process has been rather frustrating for me, and they have been able to prescribe exercises that are appropriately challenging enough to provide improvement, but not so difficult that I am left ready to break down into tears. That perfect balance makes me excited to return for every session of PT. In the last week, I have had a ton of friends tell me that I’m starting to look “normal”, and I definitely have Lucas to thank for that!

I feel so lucky to have been referred here by a friend. When I first began receiving treatment here, I was in so much pain in my neck that I was barely able to sleep. My MRI wasnt showing much and I was beginning to think that other than a TON of muscle relaxers, that made it virtually impossible to function, I wasnt going to ever feel normal again. I loved the way that Lynn and Lucas listened to me about the pain and discomfort I was feeling. There were many times that my pain changed throughout my treatment and they were able to guide me through the entire process because they listened so closely. They never pushed any exercise or treatment that I wasnt ready for or didnt help. For these reasons, I was able to quickly gain the tools that I needed to get better. As a stylist, I would have pain as discomfort at work, and because of the exercises that Kyle taught me, I was quickly able to manage my pain and get through each work day. I am so thankful for the care I received from the ENTIRE staff. They are warm, knowledgeable, caring, often hilarious and there for me during a terrible time. I wouldnt have healed without them and recommend them to anyone wanting to gain the tools, confidence and strength to work through any injury.

After having shoulder surgery, I was referred to Active Physical Therapy for a work hardening program and was there for about 3 months , 6 hours a day. They made sure that when I returned work that I would be able to fully do my job. They listen to your needs and your expectations and try to fulfill them. With their knowledge and your hard work you should have no problem getting healthy. They also made sure that I would be able to do the things in regular life that I did before. I played a lot of baseball, softball, and golf. They put me through exercises that would allow me to do those kind of things again. With Lucas playing college and minor league baseball and Kyle playing baseball, they were very knowledgeable on what I needed to do to get back in the game. My daughter is 13 and plays competitive travel softball. I was so pleased with them that after her wrist injury and major knee surgery, of course I went there for her rehab. After 4 and a half months of rehab she is playing catcher again at 100% Thanks toLauren,Lynn,Andrea,Lucas,Kyle,Jenn,Laura, and Catherine we are all healthy. Definitely go there.

I have been going to active for the past 2 months now and I am extremely pleased with the service and committment that the PTs and the rest of the staff have. They are very nice and pleasant and make you feel at home. You dont feel like you are ever being rushed out of the office to make room for another appointment and the PTs spend quality time with you. Everytime I go see Lucas McCollum I walk out of the office feeling 10 times better. Its great knowing you can go into your PT with full confidence that their goals are the same as yours and they are willing to do anything to help you get to where you want to be. Making appointments is extremely easy and their hours are so flexible it makes it hard to find an excuse not to PT. I love being able to go in on a Saturday morning after a good workout; its like an extended family in there. I spent countless appointments and trips up and down the 270 corridor meeting with other PTs and wasnt getting anywhere; thanks to Lucas and the whole team at Active I am now finally making progress!

So far, only my first visit, but its a been a pleasant and hopeful experience! I have a herniated disc and its been bothering me for almost a year now. Ive tried chiropractics, acupuncture, heat globes, massage therapy, and an epidural shot and painkillers, but this is certainly the best experience so far. Andrea was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. She took the time to learn about my injury, go through some initial exercises, and then come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan. She explained the situation in such a way that I could understand the process and be optimistic about the outcomes - quite unlike a doctor Ive seen whose 2 initial recommendations based on my x ray and MRI were either epidural shot or surgery. My first time treatment included a traction device and heat and stim, both of which felt great! I would highly recommend this place.

I cant say enough about Frederick Active Physical Therapy!!! After sustaining a severe broken ankle that required ORIF surgery I went to Active for my recovery after being off my feet for almost 2 months. Needless to say after spending time there with e regimented program under the guidance of Lucas McCollum I was back on my feet and actually running a bit within 3-4 weeks. For a long time I wondered if Id be able to get back to the active lifestyle I was living before the injury and wasnt sure if Id ever be able to compete in any sort of endurance event again but with the continued support and advice provided by the staff at Active I was able to swim, bike and run again close to the level I could prior to the injury. I firmly believe that I am where I am because of the care and treatment I received at Active Physical Therapy in Frederick.
