The worst mistake of my life was deciding on a whim to take my 2year old pit bull to this horrible place. Lets begin with how this all started so you all can be clear on why I would never recommend this place for any animal. My dog exhibited all signs of having a heat stroke. This included heavy panting, vomiting, a wobbly strut, diarrhea, red spots all over his belly ears and gums and unresponsive behavior. After following all directions to get his temperature down he still was having a hard time getting himself together. Me and my boyfriend decided that we didnt want to take any chances with his health any further and took him to Pet ER. When we arrived they took us straight to the back and proceeded to give him fluids and check his temperature this was about 6:30pm. We was then told the estimate was $1700 which I didnt understand why it would be so high after questioning this estimate it went down to $750. We was then told that he would have to stay overnight bcuz they were afraid he wouldnt make it through the night at home while we were apprehensive about leaving him there we wanted what was best for him. They told us he would need to be picked up at 7pm the following night and we could call and visit any time to check on his well being. my boyfriend called around 8:30pm and was told he was "resting" I called around 9:30 and was told by Maggie that I couldnt be updated because the doctor was on an emergency. At 12am we called again to check and was told he was resting. At 1:30am I got a call from the doctor stating that she noticed hives on his belly and wanted to do a clotting test on him and it would cost $140 and would bring my estimate to 724. I was furious that he had been there several hours and they just noticed the red spots on him which were not hives but an indication that he was suffering from kidney failure. She also stated that I would have to pick him up by 7am or be charged an extra $184 for overnight stay and would receive a new estimate. She called me at 2am to discuss the results in which I was told that the clotting time was a little high but that could be explained by the medications he was receiving or he was suffering from being poisoned. I call this place at 6am and told them I was on my way to pick my baby up in which I arrived around 6:45am in which I was told that he was quite ready. After siting for 30 mins they called me to the desk am stated that the estimate went from 750 which I already paid to $940. No one could tell me where the new charges came from other than medication. When they brought him out he was walking which he wasnt doing when we brought him in but he was also bleeding profusely from his rextum.I proceeded to take my baby to his original veterinarian in which I was told that they needed to perform an immediate blood test and X-ray due to the amount of blood he was losing from his rectum. The blood work was completed and I was told that he was bleeding out into all his major organs and was suffering from kidney and liver failure. I was forced to put my baby to sleep and the signs and symptoms he went in Pet ER with he came out with much more severe problems that lead to his death. I lost my son on July 20th due to pet ER being incompetent and not noticing what was right in front of there face.

Our Labrador retriever had late night surgery at our veterinarian’s office that ended about 10:30 pm. Since the office isn’t manned 24 hours she suggested taking him to Pet ER and bring him back first thing in the morning. Pet ER was called in advance and we arrived at around 12:15 am. After check in and a very brief examination by the veterinarian, I’ll refer to as RF, we were given an estimate of $375-$800. One of the items on the estimate was pain medication. He had already been given pain medication because of the surgery. We informed RF he was only going to be there for several hours and didn’t think all that was on the estimate was necessary. She said she wasn’t aware of time length he would be staying there. We gave her fluids to administer and asked her to monitor his condition. We left with the expectations he would be cared for and medical attention was available if it was needed. Around 5:30 am we called Pet ER and informed them we were on our way to pick up the dog. After we arrived the dog was brought out on a stretcher, placed in the car and the attendant advised us to take the dog directly to our veterinarian for treatment. It was apparent the dog’s condition had deteriorated greatly from when we took him there. When we arrived at our vet’s office the tech looked at his condition, immediately put him on fluids and called our veterinarian. When she arrived he was given medications and additional treatment. There appeared to be some improvement in his condition and we left about 7:30 to go home. On our way home we received a call to return that our dog was in cardiac arrest and being given CPR. The dog died prior to our return. Apparently when RF wasn’t given a blank check to do what she wanted she did nothing more than put him on fluids. If she had monitored his condition, as requested, she would have seen his condition had deteriorated. This was a member of our family, and if notified the dog needed medical attention we would have given permission to do what was necessary. RF is a poor excuse for a veterinarian. She is callous, irresponsible and has no compassion for the animals placed in her care. If she would have provided medical treatment would the dog survived? We will never know. What I do know is that he needed medical attention and no effort was made to provide it. All it would have taken was a phone call. Looking at other reviews of Pet ER “it’s all about the money” is repeated time and time again. Our initial charge was $95 for emergency exam which took about 2 minutes and $150 hospital admission. Although our dog had a catheter from the surgery someone decided to replace it and we were charged an additional $47. Total cost $292. This past January we took a cat to Pet ER to have it euthanized because it had known medical issues, having constant seizures and was literally dying before our eyes. The cost just to euthanize the cat was $183. It has been my experience at Pet ER the quality of service does not justify the premium price. There are times when your choices are limited, but think long and hard about other options before you use Pet ER.

First of all, I cannot begin to say how appalled I am at the experience my husband & I had at this facility. And reading some of these positive reviews, I am THOROUGHLY convinced that they had to have been written by the employees who work there. We rushed our dachshund Smitty to Pet ER this past Friday evening. He was having seizures every 10 minutes & at the time of arrival, was having another one. I ran in begging for assistance to help him, They rushed him back immediately, but when they were finished giving him a shot of valium, fluids & oxygen, the doctor told us they couldnt "officially" diagnose him with anything until tests were performed; which would cost from $2000 to $3000 dollars. AND that giving him any other kind of medication, it would be more money. AND we also want to add that upon them giving him the "fluids & valium", the nurses were giggling & whispering to each other. Of course we were definitely emotionally unprepared for what happened to our Smitty, so quoting prices to us without even trying to see what was wrong with him was beyond ridiculous to me! I mean, when a human being is brought to en ER for emergency care, the doctors AT LEAST run tests to see what they can find before even quoting billing options. AND, if you dont have the money for it, they bill you. We were clearly told that "they dont bill". It seemed to us that the minute that they saw Smitty & the emotional distress that we were in, they saw dollar signs & we think that is the saddest thing ever. Animals hurt just like we do! Our Smitty should have never been treated this way. And to top that off, of course the option to put him down was mentioned because of his age & "possible family medical history". He was 9 years old at that time. So then the options on how he was going to be euthanized were mentioned. We were only given 3 options; to have him euthanized & we take him home which was $350, have him euthanized & have him cremated which was double that, or to have him euthanized & receive an urn for him which was even more. We were never offered any other options! So, I asked the nurse what would happen if we didnt have the money for either of those options. She told us that we had to give them "something to work with" so she could tell her manager the situation. So of course, we saw no other choice but to give them the $350 for the first option. BUT, we really couldnt give them the money up front, because it was in our savings account, which was the only funds that we had at the time, and our bank doesnt allow transfers after a certain time of day/evening. So we were told to sign an "affidavit" stating that we would pay them this amount in 3 days. It was clear to us that money played a major factor in their situation, not Smittys health. I strongly suggest if anyone needs to take their fur baby to an emergency ER, DO NOT take them to this facility unless you have some SERIOUS FUNDS up front! Absolutely ridiculous!!
