Really unhappy with my experience with this office. I sought out a dentist early last week due to some excruciating tooth pain. Ive had all four wisdom teeth in for nearly 10 years with no problems; X-rays have shown they all grew in not impacted, etc. I was surprised and happy to get into see this dentist so quickly, as I was in pain. They did a panoramic x-ray and he noticed that my one lower tooth causing the trouble was cracked and infected. He said that one needed to come out, in order to completely clear the infection. The other three were perfectly fine and have never caused any problems, but he still suggested they come out. I made an appointment, and was able to get them scheduled to come out Friday of last week (all of them). I was not sure why the top ones were removed first, as I would have thought hed remove the infected, decaying tooth that was causing me so much pain first. The top two came out, but my other lower wisdom tooth (not the infected one) is the one he started on when he started on the lowers. Almost 25 minutes later, he could not get the tooth out, and had decided to saw it into portions. Still couldnt get it out. After about 30 minutes of that, and growing frustration that I sensed (not very reassuring for someone who is having their mouth yanked on), he stops and says that hes leaving the cut up wisdom tooth in my mouth, and is not even going to attempt the infected one. He says that they will refer me to an oral surgeon at the front desk. Head to the front desk, and since I live near RO but went to the Shelby location for the extraction, the receptionist at the front tells me she doesnt have her list of recommendations, but shell call me first thing this morning to follow up and give me a referral. No call yet. Also, I noted to this doctor that I am in the early stages of pregnancy, and I didnt want any pain medicine. My husband asked for something safe (which I knew I wasnt going to take anyway) in case I needed it. He gave me Tramadol, which the pharmacist was definitely not comfortable filling for me. We just had the pharmacy shred it, and I took ibuprofen. Ive spoken to friends who are in the medical field, and nobody understands why this Dr. didnt start with the infected, pain causing tooth. So now Im stuck with two painful teeth, instead of just one. Something definitely felt off with this whole situation, and a coworker says that happens a lot due to our excellent dental coverage. Note: After speaking with my former dentist, doctor, and a few oral surgeons offices, Im told that due to my early stages of pregnancy, I should have been instructed to only get the NECESSARY treatment this early, which would have been my one infected tooth. Such a scam.

I never do reviews but for this I had too! If your in a desperate situation this dentist has no problems ripping you off! I have my two front teeth on the bottom row missing and had lost my partial 3 weeks before a important fundraiser for my 9 year old son who has terminal cancer. Anyways after calling around cause our dentist was on vacay for the week, Great Lakes said they could get me new ones the fastest. My insurance would cover half of the $980 something patial so i used what little money i had after my sons meds to pay my half. Anyways the first ones i got broke before i made it a mile away, they said sorry their chincy but its the best we could do in that short of time but they still worked to keep appearances so they would order me better ones since they had more time. So a couple weeks later the new ones are in and they look exactly the same but they said their better and im no expert so i trusted them. These dont nearly fit as nice as my old one, food gets under them constantly, and they flop around but i still gave great lakes the benefit of the doubt. Recently i took my kids to our dentist for their check up and i told them the story and was saying how i might continue Great Lakes for myself. That dentist looked at my partial and laughed and said thats a flipper and a chincy one at that. Thats a temporary that people get while waiting for a real patial denture and they run anywhere between $150- $250. IM STUCK WITH THIS GARBAGE FOR 5 YEARS UNTIL MY INSURANCE COVERS ANOTHER PAIR! Im very hurt that after telling them everything were going through that they still would rip me off! I will never be returning! IN REGARDS TO THE OWNERS REPLY: The first partial yes I didnt expect the best, i knew what I was getting into and it wasnt 2 days it was 2 weeks, however the second partial ( which isnt even a partial, its a flipper) you guys had all the time in the world to have them made but still gave me the cheapest possible product you could have made while telling me that it was worth $980. Why not just charge me for a flipper in the first place? I dont need a cheap dentist, I need a dentist who cares enough about his patient to be honest and not completely rip them off. I guess i understand how as the owner you wouldnt care about the situation, Most people wouldnt push the subject if they pocketed $700+ free money on the back of their patients either.

Finding a good dentist is often hard, and we have settled in the past because frankly you only see that person 1-2 times a year. When we came across GL Dentisry, we expected the same. Upon our first visit it was clear this business was run much differently, with the patients as the focus. Everyone was very friendly, which was a great start. The exam and cleaning were pleasant and they were very accommodating to being pregnant offering different positioning to make me comfortable. Dr. Van de Vyver wasnt pushy in regard to additional services that needed to get done. We left very happy. After our visit we received a box in the mail containing two personalized mugs. They were awesome and just a wonderful detail that showed us we were not forgotten upon leaving the office. After a second visit, we received a parenting book (as we were expecting) from the office. We could not get over how thoughtful the office and Dr. was. We will continue to be patients of this office and I encourage everyone in the area to join their practice too!

MY wife daughter and I all go to Great Lakes Dentistry. After years of avoiding a bad tooth I went in for a root canal. Something I was scared to death of. Dr. V did an amazing job and though he had to double novocaine me, I was relieved to experience at most a 2 on the pain scale. He was aggressive where it mattered in making the crown adhere and gentle where he needed to be. He even had some good calming words to reassure me as we moved forward. Im gonna go for root canal 2 in a month or so. He made me feel good enough to do it again. As for cleaning appointments Id just say find one you like and request them. Weve had preferences even amongst my girls as to which one we like. Dentistry is a tough job. I read a 1 star review and thought what a tough spot a dentist is in. They are damned if they do and damned if they dont. This guy is really good at what he does and he cares. That matters.
