Broke my knee in 2 places, no wt bearing for 3 mo., in an ankle to thigh immobilizer . Surgeon & Hospitalist wanted me to go to Merhodist Rehab, told by Hospitalist if ins denies, Ill rqst Peer to Peer. Told my Social Worker and PA this on am of 8/12 as my room was stripped that morning and closer to lunch being told my ins denied the Rehab. Told SW I would consider the SNF she pushed earlier in the wk but NOT committing. I am not from this area, looking at Austin facility, closer to home. Took 2 days to get denial but w/in hrs of agreeing to see if SNF in SA was an option by my ins, I was told you are approved. I called SW, she came back, I asked for 24 hrs to get clothes, none of which I had as I live alone, in another town, just visiting for the day when i fell, my family live 6 hrs away and most important, Ive worked in Healthcare, I know nothing gets done quickly and even slower on a Fri afternoon, and what about the Peer to Peer Dr.__ said he would request? I felt rushed, scared, having no control about a big decision in my life about my health/recovery and just needed 24 hrs. I was tearful. She said Ill see and left. Nurse came in behind her, said you leave in 30 minutes, get your stuff together. That matter of fact. When I told her what the SW and I had just discussed she said thats not gonna happen, youre going. Ambulance transport they arranged arrived, driver knew nothing about my condition asking me to get in the wheelchair, and did not know my left leg was immobilized. The left side of the wheelchair was broken. I had to hold it in place on top of my right leg. I asked the nurse if we could use the hospital wheelchair to get me into the transport as she saw the problem. The nurse emphatically said, "no"! We made it out to the van, I could not make the trip to rehab holding my leg in place, hobbled to the front of the van, holding on to whatever I could, propped my left leg on a box, and held on to the driver and passenger seat, while the driver wrestled to lower a half bench. I sat, holding my legs across the seat w/my left hand, right arm behind the seat, holding me in place. I recd my pain meds at 2:30 before I left. My orders and records were not received timely in order for the Rehab Dr, who is offsite, to get a triplicate rx to an off sight pharmacy for a delivery that usually takes 4 hrs. I went w/out pain meds from 630-10, for my first active day, 4 days post surgical repair that Im constantly told are very bad breaks. The rehab knew a patient was coming but not my specifically information. They were not repaired to receive me, had to scramble to make me a cold meal and did not know about my immobility issues, or my injury. There is suspicion the swelling on the side of my foot may be possible fx. Nothing was done about my concerns about the swollen foot swell at Methodist, even the morning before I left I was told , its common swelling. At 10pm, I broke down, thinking this is how old people in nursing homes must feel. I am 58 and have worked all my life in Healthcare, as a state wc adjuster, and in State gov. Ive paid for ins since age 19, rarely ever use it and am rushed out the door for fear of a one day charge. Leaving at 230pm, theyre getting pd. I called the Clinical Nurse Dir., from the rehab who came to the hospital to see me. I outlined what had happened that whole day and that I wanted out by morning, as all my concerns about coming here had all happened and I felt she lied to me to make a buck. I called and left a VM for the Methodist SW and told her, the rush to get me out resulted in exactly what I told her would happen. Continuity of care and a smooth patient transition did not occur. I planned to get Methodist recirds and place myself elsewhere. I wondered if there was a connections to the rehab as the SW had pushed it since the get go. By 11pm, the Rehab shift charge and an Admin Exec were in my room working on resolution. As for Methodist SW, no courtesy return call nor response to my detailed email nor response to a complaint filed with Methodist.

My aunt had the be taken to Texsan hospital from out of town a week ago due to complications breathing, she was released a couple days later saying nothing was wrong with her and she told them she still couldnt breathe and when she asked if she would be able to take home an oxygen tank they told her no because she would need to learn how to breathe on her own...I was very very disappointed and the next day she had to be taken back to the same hospital again due to her complications breathing again. My aunt had been in ICU for about 4 days due to a blood clot in her leg that had ran up to her lungs making it difficult breathing. My aunt has not had a good experience in this hospital not once since she has been there...no one ever helps her and when she asks they tell her to wait till the next shift is starting or they just never come back in the room. I am very upset with the staff in the hospital because I am always recommending to all my family and friends from out of town that S.A hospitals are the best...but apparently not all hospitals in S.A are good! I will be contacting the board of directors because if this is how they treat their patients then they all need to be fired.

My 80 yr old father was admitted to this hospital couple of weeks again. After 8 hrs in ER was placed in ICU due to a ruptured intestine and diverticulitis. He was placed on liquid diet for 6 day, lost 10 pds. The kicker to this wonderful hospital was that the doctor released him to go home straight out of ICU, he wasnt eating and so weak he could hardly walk and the catheter was removed 10 mins before he walked out the front door. In the process of getting him home he fell because he became dizzy and weak and this was with using a walker. No home health was ordered or any equipment that would be needed to recover at home. I would safely said TEXSAN Hospital dropped the ball on this one. My family will never use this hospital or recommend it to anyone. BAD Hospital, if you want to get better dont go to this one.........

This is a THIRD WORLD hospital. After a nurse drew some blood from me, instead of stopping the bleeding with a clean cotton ball or a band aid, she grabbed a paper towel from the dispenser located above the sink and pressed it against the wound to stop the bleeding, flippantly stating that she was doing it the "GHETTO WAY." I spent 3 days here after being seen in the ER, where I was seen for chest pains, and during that time I was never offered a toothbrush, toothpaste, or shampoo. However, in defense of this hospital, we all know that toiletries, cotton balls, and band aids are extremely expensive and only hospitals in a FIRST WORLD country like the United States can afford such products.
