My wife haf a same day procedure scheduled on July 18, 2014 at Christus Santa Rosa Alamo Height, San Antonio. This procedure was fully covered by our insurance carrier (verified). The Tuesday before, she presented for registration to the facilty and was asked to pay 700.00 for unknown/non discussed charges. If we didnt pay this, we would not be allowed admission to the hospital. Due to the nature of the surgery, we reluctantly agreed. A few weeks later, we called our insurance carrier to verify the charges but it was too early since the hospital had not submitted the charges. A few months later (Oct 2014), I called again to find out that our insurance had covered all the cost and after being on the phone with both the hospital (billing department) and Blue cross Blue Shield, we found out that the Christus owed us 700.00 dollars. The check had not been processed and there was no apology offered. In fact the lady from Christus billing asked me to call in 4 weeks to see if the refund check had been approved and processed. This is ironic and very disappointing since Christus owed me(the patient) 700 dollars but failed to notify me. If the tables had been reversed, I would have been dealing with collections. In addition, no apology was offered and no effort was made to pay me in appropriate time. The goal of this review is to notify the hospital and the general public to be alert and very cautious when it comes to financial matters with this hospital. This complain has nothing to do with the medical staff or care but the lack of customer service and "stealing" of hard earned money by this institution. I am disgusted at the long time it has taken from the hospital to refund this amount to me realizing that this is huge amount for many hardworking customers. The surgery was a very difficult time for us and this experience added to the frustration and pain. We have lost our faith in institutions related to religious organizations as well. I wonder if this has to do with our faith being different from the hospital faith - I would not be surprised. Please be VERY careful about your bills and costs from this institution. I would review and review and make others review them before you hand money/credit card/check to them. Also be wise about what you insurance covers. Be plase careful.

WORST ER EXPERIENCE! If you expect professional, reliable and racism free health care. DO NOT go here. My mother was experiencing severe back pain, and severe kidney pain. My sister rushed her to the hospital where she had to go inside and get a wheelchair, because my mother was in so much pain she could not walk. Before my mother even got to the front counter, a nurse stopped her and my sister and asked "does she have Obamacare? Because if she does then we will not admit her." My mother is Hispanic, so the nurse assumed off the bat that my mother has Obamacare. The entire time my mother is crying and in pain and the nurses showed no sign to help her. To top it off the ER was empty, and my mother had to wait a full hour before they saw her. The nurse who then drew my moms blood messed up and stuck my mom in the muscle, missed the vein complelty and then when my mom told her she just laughed and called another nurse over who said "I guess this is why you failed your medical exams" the fact that they thought it was funny they could not do their job was horrendous. My sister then told me she heard the nurses laughing in the hallway about my mother afterward. Then the doctor who came in to see my mom offered no type of help other than to dose her up with a ton of pain meds and send her on her way. The hospital did nothing to my mother other than give her a nasty bruise on her arm where they couldnt even draw blood. Do not go here if you are Hispanic and expect quality care. Or any other race. This is one of the worst experiences my family has ever had.

My daughter came in for surgery, I was with her when the nurse was getting her ready for surgery. The nurse requested my phone number since I would be in the waiting area, I provided her with the number & assured her I would be present the entire day, joined by my son-in-law after he had child care taken care of. I also spoke with the surgeon, he assured me that after surgery he would come out & speak with myself & my son-in-law. The surgery was completed, we were never notified(despite waiting in the waiting room for six hours!!),the surgeon was informed that I left & the patients husband was a " NO SHOW". The surgeon was then given an incorrect phone number to call & leave a message for the husband. The surgeon called a total stranger, never spoke to anyone related to my daughter. The nurses were unconcerned, my daughter was stressed & upset, & she was told she was " over reacting" WORST HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE EVER!!! uncaring staff, spoke with nurses regarding this situation and the were " going to look into it" My daughter was also told that she shouldnt ask to see her mother since she was married & needed to " grow up". I happen to be a registered nurse & I am upset & appalled by the way my daughter was treated. Certainly gives out profession a bad name. I could never act that way to any patient, and most facilities would never tolerate that behavior. There isnt an option for no stars, Christa Santa Rosa Alamo Heights doesnt deserve any star. .

Our son had surgery here and we were on a self pay contract. We had paid the doctor on the Pre-Op visit and were told that we would pay the balance the day of the surgery at the hospital. That amount was $8500 and we willingly paid what owed. I asked numerous times if this took care of our bill totally and that the anesthesiologist was covered. The attendant in admitting assured me we were paid in full and everything was taken care of. 4 months later, repeated harrasing phone calls by TEJAS Anesthesia and bill collection we find that our $8500 covered the hospital and anesthesia, but not the anesthesioLOGIST. We were told at the the hospital, the day of surgery, and the doctors office that our bill was paid in full. So, my warning to you is BEWARE of not receiving the entire truth about your bill....Anesthesia and Anesthesiologists are separate individuals.....according to Sandra at TEJAS. So they told us we owed $4000, but they would settle for $475....$75 being penalties for the excessive billing....interesting dont you think?

Full disclosure - I work here. This is a fantastic surgical short stay hospital, but it has a small ER that is staffed 24-hrs daily with an experienced ER nurse (most have worked at high-volume ERs and are taking a little break from the volume and studying for advanced degrees) and a doctor boarded in emergency medicine or family practice. While only two rooms, there is a brand new CT scanner, digital x-ray machines, point-of-care testing for basic labs (other labs get sent to Childrens Hospital but it happens pretty rapidly), and all the medications required to run a full-service ER. If admission are required, that would need a transfer over to Medical Center or another area hospital. Only 0-4 patients present each day to the ER so it is almost completely empty despite a very experienced staff sitting around.
