EMERGENCY ROOM - I was petrified entering, as I had been coughing up blood all day. I have had bronchitis four times in the previous six months and the coughing remains a problem even though the fever and other symptoms have dissipated. Although I did not have to wait very long to see a doctor, which I am attributing to the fact that I was seen on a Thursday afternoon and has little to do with the skill of the staff, I was utterly unimpressed. The nurse was friendly enough and seemed to know what she was doing as she checked my vitals and eventually led me to my room. I waited for about ten minutes for the doctor. When he entered the room he asked me two questions: "What are we seeing you for today?" and "How long has this been going on?" When I proceeded to try to tell him about my chronic bronchitis he cut me off to listen to my lungs for about fifteen seconds before replacing his stethoscope around his neck, stepping to the door and telling me that hed "be back in a few moments". Ten more minutes later his nurse, not he, walked in with a prescription for cough syrup and allergy medication and my discharge papers. Disappointed and frustrated, I asked the nurse how liquid codeine and Zyrtec-D were supposed to prevent me from coughing up more blood, to which she replied with a blank stare and the words "Just do what the doctor told you.". I received no chest X-Rays, no further testing, nothing. Currently (about two weeks later) I have chest pain and am often winded simply by walking, not to mention being lightheaded and the horrible, racking cough that, yes, still has blood in it despite the magical concoction of codeine and pseudoephedrine. I am making arrangements to see a Pulmonary specialist in Houston. If I die before then, Im blaming these [insert expletive]s. THEN, when I tried to acquire records of my visit for purposes of excusing absences from class, I called the main operator, who then transferred me to the ER, who mistakenly (Im hoping) transferred me housekeeping, who transferred me back to the operator, who then transferred me to Medical Records, where there was no answer and no way to leave a message. I cannot say that every department of this hospital operates at the same substandard level, but if their Emergency Room is any indication of how they run things, save yourself the trouble, as youre better off going to CTMC in San Marcos or even as far as Austin or San Antonio.

My wife had a stroke, and the Doctor treated us like a couple of idiots instead of a patient. We showed up at this Emergency Room on a late Monday evening after we had been at a happy hour with friends. We are in our mid- thirties, and it is very unusual to have a stroke at this age, but the symptoms dont change no matter what age you are. My wife explained to the Doctor that her entire left side was numb and she felt panicked. (The #1 symptom of a stroke is one side of your body being numb, and she was panicked!!!!! List below.). The Doctor decides to run blood and urine test on her, and then went on to wanting to run a spinal tap while he sat and joked with the nurses while my wife and I sat there scared. We decided against the spinal tap and came home to call family friends whom are Doctors and Nurses the next morning, and every single one of them came to the same conclusion without even seeing her, and demanded we go back and get an MRI. The Doctor the next day discovered a blood clot in her brain, and questioned why the ER Doctor the previous night did not run an MRI with the symptoms she had. Now we are facing two bills from the Hospital from a Doctor who knew what he was doing and a Doctor who did not know what he was doing. We have called the Hospital to try and get the first bill removed, but they will not do it. My advice would be to drive to San Antonio or Austin, you might have a better chance of living. We are still furious about what could have been done to the clot in the first hours of the stroke instead of jumping threw hoops and getting an MRI 15 hours after the fact. We spent the next week at Methodist Hospital treating her. The joke of it all is that the first Doctor diagnosis was that she was having an anxiety attack(something she had never had before), and that she should seek out a Neurologist(which takes 2 weeks to get in and see one). I cant imagine what kind of condition my wife would be in today if we would have listed to him. Symptoms of Stroke: 1. Numbness or weakness in your face, arm, or leg, especially on one side 2. Confusion or trouble understanding other people 3. Trouble speaking 4. Trouble seeing with one or both eyes 5.Trouble walking or staying balanced or coordinated 6. Dizziness 7. Severe headache that comes on for no known reason

Up until the day I went into surgery I felt so comfortable and at ease with Christus Hospital and its staff. When I went into surgery the OR Nurses were wonderful. I was nervous and they knew exactly how to speak to me and assure me that I wasbin good hands. Once out of surgery they transported me up to the 2nd floor and the Nurse there put me in a room that was reading 90 degrees on the thermastat. It was so hot I could breath. Of course it didnt help with all the anesthesia I was on. I requeated another room and was tosld there were no other rooms and I wod have to deal with it. I told them that if they knew someone was coming up to the room they should have turned the air down along time ago. The CNA said Bottim Line it wasnt and walked off. Needless to say she was no longer allowed to help me per my request. I finally got moved into a comfortable room, however the next few days were the same. The bedside manner off nurses and staff was very cold. I asked several of them if they liked their jobs and one even told me she hated it. My medicines were never there when scheduled. Assistance from CNAs were minimal. Housekeeping I omly saw once to bring soiled linens and mop thw floor. Tge Nurses that I will name are to be given great thanks because they loved their job it was obvious and they did take care of me. NURSE TRUDY AND NURSE ERICA. TGE CNAS that I would like to thank are BEA AND CHERYL. Christus needa more people like yall. This was the worse hopspital experience I have ever been through and I will be sure to never return here again on my own free will.

I will never go here again. It started in the emergency room with the receptionist not taking peoples concerns seriously. I was having abdominal pains and she made me complete paperwork standing at her desk and then sent me off to find labor and delivery by myself unescorted. While waiting for my paperwork an elderly man came in with an apparent wound to his face. He was dripping tons of blood on the floor, was covered in blood from head to toe and she told him to take a seat someone will be right with you.. seriously. He even said but Im dripping blood everywhere and she just wanted to argue with him. She even was nasty when another patient informed her of the amount of blood on the floor. Moving on up to labor and delivery. The doctor Dr. Briggs never showed up and just treated me through the phone. I asked for a note for light duty at work since I had some trauma to my stomach and was told by the nurse that she couldnt write a note and that I needed a physician. I was hit in my stomach and told that it was natural pregnancy pains that I was having...First time here, this was the worst experience Ive had in healthcare all my life. Was told to try Resolute Hospital next time. Hopefully they are better or Ill plan on delivering my child in another city.
