I went in for severe pain in my right side and could barely walk. My husband brought me in at 7:30pm ER was fast about getting me seen due to me being 29 weeks pregnant at the time, they took me up to labor and delivery within the hour and I sat there on the monitors for about 2 hours before an ultrasound tech came in to scan my kidney. By that time I was already crying because the pain was so bad and no one acknowledged it until Im assuming the tech went and told the nurses. They finally administered a pain medication and at about midnight I was told I was being admitted because they had found a significantly large sized "kidney stone". I spent 3 days in the labor and delivery department an WAS NOT ALLOWED TO EAT anything even though I begged for food. Again I was 29 weeks pregnant and was starved for three days because the doctors "couldnt figure out what was causing my pain" because apparently after refusal to do a CT scan and multiple MRIs as well as multiple ultrasounds the stone apparently just "disappeared ".Finally after doctors kept going back and forth between kidney stone and appendicitis the nurses felt so bad for me THANK GOD FOR THE 3 wonderful nurses I had, after being put on on an all liquid diet which consisted of hot water in a cup they kept calling "vegetable broth "the doctors put me back on NPO and the nurses went against doctors NPO orders and let me order actual food from the cafeteria. Which I might add had to be the most disgusting food Ive ever eaten it was so bad I had to have my husband bring outside food so I could actually enjoy what I was eating after being pregnant and STARVED for 3 days. I also tried not to use my nurse call button but when I did they were adamant about seeing that I got my pain meds on time. There was one time I called for a nurse to administer my meds and to fix my iv machine "which would stop flowing and beep repeatedly on more than one occasion "which happened to be right before shift change I waited 2 HOURS and still no nurse I had to get out of my bed in the most pain and walk myself and my machine to the nurses station where the change had already happened and found the nurses there laughing and conversating about nothing I told them my call light had been blinking for over 2 hours and I was due for my meds luckily the nurse that had just arrived got right on it and was in my room within 5 minutes. She new something was wrong because during my entire 3 day stay I NEVER GOT OUT OF MY BED unless it was to go to the bathroom. I HATE HOSPITALS and my husband was so furious he told me he understood exactly why I felt that way and that he should have taken me to NCBH. I just dont understand WHO THE HELL WOULD STARVE A 29 WEEK PREGNANT WOMAN FOR 3 DAYS. That is simply ASTONISHING and completely UNHEALTHY. They obviously need better DOCTORS there at NEBH labor and delivery because the ones they have FREAKING SUCK and are very UNCARING as well as UNSYMPATHETIC. OUTRAGEOUS!!! definitely will not go back there for any type of care or to deliver my child. BTW they still have no idea what was wrong with me and what was causing my pain but the instant I felt better I asked to be discharged and almost SPRINTED out the door at full speed. Only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the actual nurses that were responsible for my care were extremely good at their job and very caring as well as understanding and sympathetic and made me feel like someone actually cared about me while I was forced to stay there so KUDOS to them.

I dont know what severity of condition it takes to actually be seen by a ER doctor or nurse - maybe if you walked in with your own severed head under your arm, while in labor trying to deliver a flaming porcupine, that would be worthy of a casual glance from the ER physician, but I dont know. What I can tell you is that, even if you are sent back to a ED room, that means absolutely NOTHING in terms of care. I arrived at the hospital with a kidney stone, in severe pain, and was taken back to an ER room very quickly - thats good. Then, I was completely ignored by the entire staff - doctor, nurses - everyone. Those that have had a kidney stone know what its like, but for those that dont - its excruciating. Theres no relief or escape from the pain without medical intervention. I understand that ERs can be busy places, and that patients have to be seen by the doctor in the proper order, but its simply inhumane to make someone in severe pain to wait hours before even attempting to control the pain, which can easily be done while the doctor tends to more serious cases. After two hours of being ignored, I had to remove my own IV (which was inserted when I got to the room, but never hooked up to anything), at which point I left. The nurse that responded to the call button I had pressed 20 minutes earlier came to the door as I was leaving and appeared upset I had removed the IV myself, but I told her thats what happens when patients in a lot of pain are ignored for hours. She protested that I was not being being ignored, but conceded that spending a couple of hours in a room where NO ONE from the ED staff bothered to even stop by might appear, to some people, like being ignored. Its clear from others posts about this place that this practice is pretty common. Its not that there were not staff present, but the staff that was there seemed far more interested in what appeared to be aimlessly wandering around or getting coffee/pizza than in checking in on patients. Having now read through these reviews, I never should have come here in the first place, and I wouldnt advise my worst enemy to ever come to the ED, under any circumstances. Also, having read the recent reviews, it appears Baptist has some sort of automated response with a phone number to call to discuss your "patient experience". Assuming that phone number and person they reference are real, that must be the worst job on the planet. Final point - I truly hope that those who manage and work in this ED are one day in a position to be on the patient side of things, and are treated exactly the same way they currently treat their patients. I can think of nothing more fitting. Bottom line - stay away. Read the reviews - they are not the incoherent ramblings of a few malcontents. They are indicative of the treatment youre likely to receive should you choose this ED.

****this is long and detailed but worth the read**** Call 911 to have an ambulance take you there so you will be seen right away. Patients taken by an ambulance are seen before patients that walk in. Its apparently their policy. My aunt was suddenly ill with severe muscle spasms in 2013. Her 1st visit here, she was taken by an ambulance and put in a rm. Dr gave her a pain patch and sent her home. Not even 2 wks later, we went again for her muscle spasms. Dr gave her a pain patch but my aunt asked him if she could be admitted into the hospital because she didnt feel safe going home fearing that shed be in pain with muscle spasms. He said he could request it but it would be denied because it wasnt an "urgent issue" ,so he sent her home. 2 days later, we went AGAIN and she was admittied into the ONCOLOGY center!!! No cancer thank god, but she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease. The 3rd time we went (same time she was finally admitted) was the worst experience EVER. We walked in instead of taking the ambulance, (due to already being billed for an ambulance in the past) and waited a total of 8 hrs in the WAITING rm. The nurses in front are horrible and inhumane. We asked for an ice pack and they refused the first time! Another patient in the waiting rm said while the nurses were taking her vitals she over heard that they were talking bad about my aunt and my family!! That is against HIPPA Policy and they shouldve been fired on the spot for that. So, my cousin went up to the clerk to ask for info on who to file a complaint with. The clerk gave her the brochure with the info on who to contact and my cousin asked for her and the nurses names who take the vitals. Not even 10mins after that, the security officer came out to us and accused my cousin of touching the clerk! Sec officer claimed there was footage showing my cousin touching the clerks badge, so we all demanded to see the footage. And guess what, he never showed us. Go figure, right. That was only in the waiting room. Her first night being admitted into the hospital, her night nurse refused to give her any pain meds for her spasms, not even tylenol. All patients are entitled to tylenol. She was admitted into oncology the next morning and everyone there was great. They really took care of her like she was a human being. We made multiple complaints but the employees were only given a slap on the wrist. They need to hire people with compassion of their patients and stop trying to make drama. This is a hospital not a highschool. People come here when theyre in pain and should be respected and treated in a timely manner. And they should fire all employees that violate HIPPA- theres no reason to keep employees that you cant trust.
