I had a great experience here for 4 years before suddenly things turned sour. My story may sound anecdotal, but Im afraid this problem is bigger than just me. TL;DR: Get a second opinion before agreeing to any procedures here. All of a sudden I was told I had early signs of gingivitis and that my gums had a lot of bleeding. I had never noticed this myself and I consider myself very responsible for my dental health- diligent 2x/day brusher and 1x/day flosser. After only 6 months, I was told that I had gestational gingivitis, 5 cavaties, and was on my way to periodontitis! I still trusted Dr Gustafson, and went ahead with getting the fillings. They came out terrible. Not only did he fill 5, but he found another one while rushing through, and all 6 came out imperfect. They are rough, shred floss, my bite is certainly not the same, and now I get food caught in all the teeth that were affected all the time. Only after the fact did I consult another dentist who showed me in x-rays all the pockets left by the fillings that I will now have to deal with unless I wanted the expensive procedure of removing the fillings to redo them. My new dentist also investigated and didnt find anything in my mouth that would suggest poor mouth hygiene that would give way for cavaties without plenty of opportunities for preventative care. When I mentioned my story to a friend, she said when she first moved to Royal Oak that the same thing happen to her....and it happened to be Gustafson. Over my years, i referred 4 others friends to Dr. Gustafson, and all but one has also had the same diagnosis within the past 6 months. I highly encourage anyone who has had issues to come forward.

Not for lower-income folks. Im a grad student subsisting on a small stipend. WIth that said, I have insurance. Because of that, I need to be mindful when choosing procedures. They must be mostly covered by insurance or I cant afford them-- its as simple as that. This place misled me on multiple occasions, saying that the method used in my required procedure was "my choice." They said this time and time again. I didnt expect them to lie to my face. Honestly, if they had just been up front with me during my initial assessment I probably wouldnt be writing this review today. Instead I wasted an hour of my time this morning getting disappointed. Yeah, it is my choice-- my choice to find another dentist! So long, you vain, social-media obsessed liars! Heres your review!

What an awesome experience. I was referred to Gustafson and Morningstar after an abysmal experience with Gentle Dental. After this terrible experience, I was feeling very hesitant to go to yet another dentist. From the moment I walked into Gustafson and Morningstar, all of my hesitations were put to ease. Miko did a great job explaining everything she was doing, and walked me through the entire process. The whole exam and cleaning felt like I was just catching up with an old friend. They also gave me complimentary x-rays, since Gentle Dental ripped me off, charged my insurance for 2 exams, and said they would charge a $50 "transfer" fee to send the results over to Gustafson and Morningstar. I have definitely found my new dentist, and highly recommend them!

I usually dont write reviews, but I feel like Gustafson Morningstar Dentistry should not be trusted. I went in for a regular cleaning and was told that I had periodontitis, which would cost hundreds of dollars to treat (thats hundreds in addition to what my insurance covers). They didnt even make it seem like I had an options; I was more so told that Id need to sign up for the procedure. Talking with other people and doing my own research, I definitely dont have periodontitis - its gingivitis - which does not require hundreds of dollars of treatment. I dont think they are maliciously scamming people, I more so think they overreact with extreme and costly measures. Always get a second opinion.

If you are looking for an amazing dentistry... look no further. Every single time I have walked in the door at Gustafson & Morningstar Dentistry I am immediately greeted by such a friendly staff. The facility is immaculate and not only is the staff very down to earth and friendly but they make you feel so comfortable. All the work I have had done on my teeth there was painless and well crafted. Dr. Morningstar is very good at what he does and I am beyond pleased with the service and quality of work that he has to offer.

I have the same birthday as the woman who took my call and she was so funny about it! : ) She looked into my insurance for me and offered me many different appointment times. Everyone, the people on the phone, the women who talked to me and took xrays, cleaned my teeth, the doctor, everyone was awesome! I told them that I get uncomfortable at the dentist sometimes, and they made me feel completely relaxed. I definitely give them highest marks!

Dr. Gustafson was very caring when it came to my dental needs. It was the first dental experience that Ive had that did not result in pain and jaw soreness after my treatments. He has a wonderful staff and amazing hygienist named Lollie! Also a beautiful office with newer technology than what Im used to. Hes my new dentist for my family and I for life, and I highly recommend Dr. G for any dental work!

I have been a patient well over five years. It just feels like home. The entire staff is very patient-focused. Other dentists have tried to coerce me into getting certain procedures or treatments, not here. They make a point to keep up healthy dental practices and let me decide whats best for my choppers.

The whole staff was really great! I was nervous about going back to the dentist but they really put me at ease. The reception staff was very courteous. Both the hygienist and Dr. Gustafson took really good care of me and explained everything step by step without overwhelming me.
