I signed up for Banfields wellness plan about 2 years ago. However, due to my numerous negative experiences at Banfield, Ive been taking my dog back to his old vet (Pine Ridge Pet Care-HIGHLY RECOMMEND) for any issues that arise and only to Banfield for routine care. The staff at Banfield do not appear terribly competent and the focus is primarily on profit, not the pet. I have some issues with their drop off system instead of scheduled appointments. Whenever Ive taken my dog in for a routine visit, I was required to drop him off between 7 and 7:30am. The earliest Ive ever been allowed to pick him up was 12:30pm and the latest 5pm. So my dog (who is almost 14 years old, has arthritis and is a nervous wreck) has to sit in a kennel (which he doesnt do any other time) for 5-10 hours. Ive never heard of or experienced any other veterinary clinic requiring this. How is it that other vets are able to provide the necessary care without keeping my dog for the entire day? Last time I brought my dog in, I didnt even get to speak to the vet. Literally no contact. I only talked to the vet tech afterwards who appeared surprised that my dog was on medication (which I clearly listed on the intake form). So my dog recieved medical care without the staff being aware of the medication he was currently taking. I dont think I need to explain why this is problematic. Other than my dog sitting in a kennel all day, I have no idea who he is receiving care from or what is happening to him and I definitely do not trust the staff at Banfield. Previously, when I had brought my dog in for any concerns I was pressured into purchasing unnecessary tests and scared into thinking the worst case scenario. Again, my dog is almost 14 so hes an easy target. Im typically told that he probably has cancer or he needs something biopsied. I unfortunately allowed them to biopsy his nose which had been runny, irritated and occasionally infected for some time. After numerous trips to Banfield and multiple rounds of antibiotics I agreed to the biopsy...which of course offered zero answers. After bringing my dog back to his old vet he was correctly diagnosed and now receiving appropriate care (no biopsy needed). There have been several other instances of inappropriate care, but this review is long enough. Overall, I would absolutely not recommend Banfield.

I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a vet. I have gone there for a couple of years but this is going to be my last. I am finding it harder and harder to put my dog though sitting in a cage or crate for hours upon hours for their routine 6 month checkup dropped Cinnamon off at 7:30 am picked her up just before 1 pm. It doesnt take 5 and a half hours for routine shots and fecal check. The next thing that has started to bother me is I really do not know who is doing the work on my pets as not allowed to be with them it could be someone in training as far as I know. The last thing is I seem to be dealing less and less with the vet normally only at pickup but my vet informed me if I requested I could see her more. So bottom line is if you want a low cost service for your pets this might be for you but read the plan as even if you lose your pet my may still have to pay. I have decided the old phrase is true you get what you pay for. Even if it costs more I will be going to a AAHA approved animal hospital where I am excluding surgery with my pets during treatment. Being AAHA approved you know they are maintaining the highest standards. Just wanted to update I have a new vet and what a great difference from the Banfield I might be paying more but I know who is treating my dogs and they call to see how things are going now and then even though my dogs have not been in for any treatment for a while. Never will go back to corporate vets again.

Ive recently began bringing my 3 cats in for preventative care like dental cleanings, vaccines, and check ups and have had nothing but a good experience. Though, I would highly recommend getting your pet on a wellness plan if you intend to bring them in often for check ups and small concerns as it turns out to be much cheaper than the up front costs! Without the wellness plans they charge out of the ears for everything, but the wellness plan is much cheaper and even covers office visit charges. If an emergency arises , the team even tells you it would be easier and likely cheaper for you to visit a trauma center for your pet, as the plans dont cover emergencies or fatal incidences where extensive care is required. The care team is always considerate and interested in my pets wellness and comfort, and Ive never had to wait more than 10 minutes to speak to a vet after being placed in a room. Overall positive experience! I would recommend it to anyone.

Terrible place for your pets. My dog started having seizures every couple weeks after started bringing him here. They told me not to worry since it wasnt happening. Also, one of my dogs always had something wrong with them every time I brought them here. It was never the same dog, but whatever one wasnt sick the last time. They just keep rotating every visit. I asked the vet why this is and she had no answer other then "that is what the tests say". So the payments monthly was pointless as I had to pay 400 each visit every 4-6 months which ended up more then their previous vet. They havent been back there in over 6 months and my dog that had the seizures, hasnt had one since he had one a week after going to Banfield. I will never return my dogs here and its a huge waste of money. Take your animals to a local respectable vet. These people and company are a joke and disgrace. They shouldnt have license. Would give zero stars if I could.

I never want to take my dog, or any future pet, to any other vet!!!! Dr. Froemming is amazing and is always great at explaining all my options when it comes to my dogs care. I started going to this vet after my dog went blind and her vet didnt care to get her in any time soon, and Banfield got me in that day and they went above and beyond to check her out. My dog hated vet visits and now she tolerates them better and has never been afraid of Dr. Froemming or any other staff member who approaches her, unlike her last vet. They always treat her with care and remember she is blind. Very accommodating to my needs and my dogs. Id recommend them to anyone!!! Definitely recommend the wellness plan, I do the 40 dollar a month one and it pays for it self with her comprehensive exams and other things, Im saving a lot of money. Otherwise it would be expensive without the plan.

Do not go to Banfield! I took my 12 year old German Shepherd in for a routine prescription refill of Rimadyl (pain medication for her arthritis) without which she would be unable to walk or move, and found myself being extorted by the doctor who refused to refill the prescription without $200 for blood work. I told her it wasnt necessary because my dog has no symptoms of organ failure, and she old enough to simply live out the rest of her natural life in comfort care. The doctor then said that she would be liable if the she wrote the prescription without blood work and it harmed my dog. "Who would bring charges against you?" I asked. "You could" she replied. I told her I was willing to sign a waiver of liability. Nope. She made it very clear that I was to purchase this prescription. No extra cash = No pain relief for my dog.
