Im seriously beginning to rethink my switch to this vet. Recently my dog was diagnosed with diabetes. I assumed a simple blood sample and litmus test would have sufficed to prove this, given his urine was as sticky as syrup. Instead he needed to send out a urine sample for further testing as well as blood. When I received the call the following day they wanted to keep my dog for at least two days for monitoring. I refused as the bill was going to be $500+. This on top of $300 out of pocket already. Just to watch him? They send me off with good instructions for administering the insulin, which has gone well. They even gave me some samples of food to try. The kicker however, when I asked about what sort of food he should have, I was given either no answer, or very conflicting responses. Nothing at all definitive. Luckily I have friends with diabetic dogs who were able to help. Today (2/16), I called to have a prescription called down to Walmart for my dog. I called first thing in the morning. Then called again in the afternoon. I was told it had been called in. My wife drove down to pick it up, but nothing had come through. A third call revealed that the prior attempts were faxed. I was told they would call the third time I checked. Still waiting to see how that goes. And a heads up; Im not much of a Walmart fan, but they have pet medications at a far greater discount that Ocean View. Case in point: a box of 100 insulin needles and a bottle of insulin at the vet; $101.00, same thing a Walmart; $37.50. I may be switching vets here very soon... Heres an update: due to my two honest reviews, I have been told I am no longer welcome at the vet. As if I wasnt already leaving. I received my records in the mail and upon reviewing them found multiple mistakes in the information. Including my dogs date of birth. Seriously? I gave you his birth certificate. Garbage in, garbage out... Then there were the funny comments made throughout the files. Ira has a funny way of recalling events and discussions. Check your records people. Get second opinions. Know many of the tests they recommend are unnecessary. And also know medications can be had elsewhere for much less money. Watch yourself at this vet.

Absolutely the BEST veterinary hospital in Cape May County (which not to mention years ago I worked for a local vet)..after stumbling upon them, when our two Danes were playing football, which what turned out to be a rabid raccoon...anyway the only emergency vet for many years in Atlantic County lets you know when you call, actually its the first thing they say, it will be $120 per animal emergency fee before seeing doctor and it is a little farther of a distance from the Southern end of the county....Dr. Ira at Ocean View made a wonderful decision for all of us animal owners...the emergency fee and regular examination fee are the same 24/7...since this issue with our Danes which to be quite honest was only $40 dollars more for both dogs to be treated than one dogs emergency fee for the other vet and we walked out the door within 30 minutes feeling quite assured...since we have been regular faithful patients..and also since we had a much more severe emergency with our 1 year old lab who had to have emergency surgery and I firmly believe they saved his life..all the staff is absolutely wonderful, polite, and treat the human just as much as the pet. We cannot say enough good for Dr. IRA and all his staff at Ocean View Veterinary Hospital. I absolutely give 2 "thumbs up" and always refer Ocean View Vet to everyone I know with any type of animal!!

My Min Pin and I recently moved back to the area when he was due for his yearly exam. Ocean View Veterinary Hospital came highly recommended except for being on the expensive side. I wanted a facility that is very accessible in case of an emergency so I took him there anyway. Yes, they are more expensive than what my Vet charged in Tennessee, but my pup is well worth it. Our wait time was a bit lengthy but I was impressed with the fact that the owners wife came out to apologize for our wait and brought him a bowl of water. Heres the problem.....since the visit was a little more expensive than I anticipated, I couldnt afford all his shots in one visit. I asked if I could return a week later to get him the remaining shot and I was told that I could, but I would have to pay the $60 examination fee all over again.....just for one shot. The staff was extremely nice and I would definitely take him there in case of an after hours emergency, but unfortunately I am going to have to find another Vet that wouldnt charge $60.00 back to back in one week for routine visits.

We took our dog in for loss of appetite and swelling on her face. We explained that our dog started taking new meds two days prior and suggested that she may be having an allergic reaction, and the vet disagreed. after we spent 2 hours in the exam room and many tests later we were given no diagnosis. except that we should take our dog to university of Penn and the gave us worse case scenarios such as it could be cancer, a tumor and she might loose her eye. We insisted that they give her a cortisone shot or something in case it was an allergic reaction. We go to the counter and they give us a $462.00 bill with no diagnosis and the worse part is they never told us about any of the cost up front. We most likely would have still had the tests done but it is good business practice to explain the cost prior, then there are no surprises. Long story short it was just an allergic reaction to the meds. By that evening our dog was back to her normal self eating and no facial swelling and she has been fine since.

Im not one that normally provides reviews; however, I was so happy with my service today that I really wanted to express my opinion. I am an owner of 3 dogs (2 are mastiffs). Yes, I like the dogs with wrinkles in their faces as well as large dogs which automatically results in significant veterinary care. We have our regular vet at home, b/c of their needs we have specialists at U of Penn, and now we will be using Ocean View Veterinary for our trips down the shore. The office staff was kind and helpful. We were greeted with a smile and exchanged pleasantries. I loved the doctor and the veterinary assistant equally as much. The exam was thorough. They were concerned and proactive. The prices were EXTREMELY reasonable. In fact, based on the number of medications that my bull dog received today, I expected the bill to be MUCH higher. I immediately called my vet at home and shared my review with them, too. Thank you Ocean View!

I am surprised that anyone from Ocean View Vet Hospital wants to hear from me. The last and only time I wrote a review (which praised the vet and critiqued the wait time), I got a message on my phone saying that they were no longer treating large birds. I was referred to another vet office for my bird. Someone I know called Ocean View Vet to make an appointment for her large bird and was told there were two docs there that treat big birds. The only reason I can think of as to why I was banished is that I answered honestly that I thought the waiting time was too long. I was told both times I waited that there was an emergency. I didnt see any signs of an emergency either time. And the friend I mentioned above went to another vet when I told her I was banished. I imagine a picture of me with a circle around it and a line through it on the bulletin board there.
