My 89-year-old grandmother had open heart/aortic valve replacement surgery on February 11, 2016 at Jersey City Medical Center. Following her surgery, we had her transferred to what we believed was the best place for her rehab. Out of respect for the care they did give her in weening off of the vent, I will not name the location. However, after a month her not even being out of bed once, we needed to look for a place that would help my grandmother get home. This place was Kindred Hospital in Dover, NJ. Having to travel there late on a Friday evening, my grandmother was scared and a little confused as to where we were taking her now, as she liked to put it. Judy was Grandmas first nurse, and she was absolutely phenomenal! She reminded us of a friend of the family, which made things even better. My grandmother was up and out of bed within a couple days of arriving at Kindred, and made it off of the trach collar completely within a couple of weeks. Hearing her say our names for the first time in two months was the best we could have wished for! Grandma has since transferred from Kindred into a rehab facility much closer to home so that she can get more intense physical therapy. Im sure Ill be chasing her around WalMart soon enough! The care was absolutely wonderful and the nurses, respiratory therapists, physicians, and aides were all top notch! Grandma loved Liji!! My grandmother hated saying goodbye to them....and so did we! The care at Kindred is absolutely professional and caring in the best way! Before this, I had never even heard of Kindred, but I now know its a hidden gem located in North Jersey with people that are committed to helping! We would like to thank all of the nurses, rehab therapists, respiratory therapists, case management workers, and doctors for all they did to help my grandmother. We would like to especially thank Reine and Parvin for helping to get Grandma moved closer to home for rehab and for A+ communication throughout the entire process. There was never a question asked that I didnt receive an immediate response to.I wish I could list every single person, but there were just too many to name that made such a positive difference in Grandmas outcome. Thank you all again for helping to get this feisty Italian back home!! Kelly Magee

I would like to take this opportunity to share with you my experience at Kindred Hospital. My Husband undertook a massive heart attack, and encountered other severe medical issues that required Kindred Hospital’s care. During this very difficult time, I found the entire Staff: Doctors, Management, Respiratory Team, Nurses, and Nurses Aids to be extremely knowledgeable, and also very compassionate, and caring. The entire staff consistently monitored his daily progress, and acted immediately on any/ all issues that came-up. They were extremely diligent, and timely with all their actions, ensuring the problematic areas became stabilized , and tried to not allow them to resurface. My husband was on a feeding tube , for over a month, and when we arrived at Kindred, it was a short time thereafter where he was able to swallow food, and speak clearly, and concisely. Their Repository Team was relentless; enabling his lungs going from a poor status to a stable status. From a humanistic standpoint, these people went above , and beyond the call of duty. When you have a loved one that is quite ill, you become scared, and vulnerable. The entire Team treated me with compassion, and the highest level of respect which was never dismissed; whether I was at their facility; or calling in for an update on my husband’s progress. Their accountability was superior. I highly recommend this facility to any family one who is in need of their specialized care and services. Overall Rating: Superior.

The experience I had at Kindred Hospital was top notch. My mother spent close to 5 weeks at Kindred, and I cannot thank the clinical staff enough! They were able to basically save my mothers life after she was transferred from another hospital. The clinical staff knew exactly what they were doing, were honest with me from the beginning, and made my mother feel like a top priority. The day my mother was transferred to Kindred, Michael Pizzano took the time to come in and introduce himself to me. He explained my mothers condition, what was going to most likely happen, and how he has complete confidence in his staff to treat her. He showed me around, introduced me to the nurses, respiratory doctors, and the case manager. I immediately knew she was in good hands. It didnt end there, he consistently checked in with her and us to see if we had any questions, or if we needed anything. He showed a sincere interest the entire length of her stay. It is very obvious that this hospital is run extremely well under the guidance of Mr. Pizzano. I also want to take a moment to be able to mention how pleased I was with Dr. Grella, my mothers doctor at Kindred. What I appreciated the most was the way Dr. Grella explained what was happening in a way that was easy to understand, and he always took the time to answer all of our questions. He is one of the reasons we chose the rehab facility that we did.

Kindred Dover was the best hospital experience my family has ever had, bar none. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The staff is attentive and caring. The nursing care was excellent. The nurses were readily available when needed, and helped each other out as a matter of course. Dr. Nazeer spent time talking with my mom every day, and cared for her mental as well as her physical well-being. He advocated for her with the medical specialists on her team. He is a very kind and compassionate man and an exceptional doctor. Before she came to Kindred, Mom had been ill for 5 months and at 3 different hospitals, and steadily declining. Her stay here improved her health so much. She is in assisted living and doing well now, but if the outcome had been different, I would still recommend Kindred for the quality of care. Mom is a hemodialysis patient. At Kindred Dover they do bedside dialysis in the hospital room, which makes it so much easier for the patient! I also want to mention that wound care at Kindred was excellent. Mom came to the hospital with painful bed sores which they treated aggressively and cured. Kindred Dover is a gem. We are so grateful to the doctor who recommended it!

My mom suffered from respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. She was in the ICU for 3 weeks. We were given the option to move to LTAC hospital. I would say it was the best decision made to come to kindred. Dr. Nazeers bedside manner and treatment plans were phenomenal. We were really happy with all the nurses, Cna’s, occupational/physical/speech and respiratory therapist, who took care of my mom just like they would take care of their own loved one. All are very compassionate, professional and empathetic. I was here daily and must say all of the staff is constantly working to make each patients stay comfortable. Our stay was about 4 weeks, my mom was able to successfully wean off the vent and become medically stable. Now the next step is to sub acute rehab. I learned that patience is needed in the recovery process, there will be good and bad days, take one day at a time. My family would like to sincerely thank all of the Kindred team for their help. We appreciate everybody’s input in my mom’s road to recovery.
