While I was looking for a puppy to adopt, The Pet Shelter was one of the many places I looked. I went there several times as well as making a few phone calls there. Each time I ended up having to talk to a rude, disinterested woman (I dont know her name). The first time I went in with my boyfriend, we saw Diesel and immediately wanted him, but he was on medical assessment. I went up to the front counter, and the woman seemed incredibly annoyed that I would dare ask her about a dog there. I had to pry to get any info out of her and she was very short with me even though the facility was not at all busy. She then told me they were getting a big group of dogs in a few days, and to come back then. I came by the day she said they were getting the dogs in, and I come to find that none of them were available for adoption until the next day. Not only that, but apparently they didnt have any paperwork for any of the dogs. I chose a dog and tried to put him on a hold, but apparently they do not do holds. The next day I was running a bit late, and left my house at 10am (when they say their floor opens for adoptions). I called ahead of time when I was on my way to make sure the dog I wanted was still there, and they said he was (although most of the dogs were not, because they actually start adopting long before 10 am). So I arrived ten minutes later, hurried up to where his cage was, and he wasnt there. I went up to the front desk (the rude woman was there AGAIN) and asked where the dog was. They told me somebody STOLE HIM. JUST WALKED OUT WITH THE DOG. I was shocked that nobody was watching carefully enough to notice somebody walk out with a DOG. The worst part is nobody really seemed to care. They said they were going over the security footage but could not give ANY info on what they "saw" on the footage. I gave them my number and they said they would call if they somehow found him, but they never called so I dont think they even looked. I have friends who had good experiences with this shelter, and most of the employees were very nice, but the one rude lady who always seems to be there ruined the whole experience for me. I ended up adopting a dog from Kaleidoscope K9s in Seville OH. Their adoption fee is much higher, but they are far more professional and kind than the Pet Shelter on Brookpark.

Looking for a puppy and went here to take a look. The employees in the back were ok when I talked to them but did not intiate any help what so ever. We were interested in a dog and I asked the lady in the front if we were able to walk the dogs. She seemed very inconvenienced I would ask for her assistance and said one of the girls in the back can help me. So I asked a girl from the back and she got the dog out for us. As she was walking him to the front I noticed him being aggressive towards the other dogs in the cages. After seeing how he acted towards the other dogs in the cages, I made sure to stay a little back with my 2 yo son as my fiancé walked him. The dog didnt seemed bothered by him at all though. When we returned from our walk, there was a dog in the lobby. The dog we had started barking and going crazy and the girl who originally got the dog out for us said "I would keep him away" or something along those lines. We did keep him away and I thought to myself "well duh, I could tell he was dog aggressive when he was removed from the kennel." I would just think that is something theyd have posted or would have mentioned when we asked to walk him. Absolutely no history on these pets "good/not good with other pets, good/not good with children, etc." When we went to leave, I held the door open for about 2 seconds as my fiancé was walking out with our son and the rude lady at the front yelled "close the door dear, the airconditioner is on!" Really?! I give 3 stars because Im too nice to give 1 and I feel if the woman at the front desk, the one who is everyones first impression of the place was a little nicer, welcoming and willing to help, it wouldnt have been so bad. And also because the employees in the back were alright when talked to, not rude or anything. I feel theyd answer any questions you had and would help if needed. It just would have been nice to see them talking to potentials adopters, asking if they needed help, would like to see a dog, giving history on the pet, etc. You know, trying to find these babies a home.

First, the volunteers that day were very unorganized and quite rude. Yet, my boyfriend and I decided to adopt a puppy (8 months) that day. We were given very little information about her (which we know is common for rescue adoptions) BUT, she had been spayed recently by them and we werent given ANY verbal information on that. Now, a month later and a non dissolvable stitch is coming out of the surgery sight along with blood and pus. We were never told she needed to return to get the stitches removed, we werent told the date she was spayed until we read through doctors notes on some paper they gave us, and they never told us that she got infected shortly after she had surgery! The day we adopted her the paperwork said she had JUST gotten off medication for the infection. We didnt think to read through the paperwork until we got home because we figured they would have informed us of something so major. It doesnt take much to stay on top of their paperwork and to inform adopters of what their pets history is like since they came through their doors. I wasnt upset with my dog having a previous infection, I am upset because if they verbally informed us at the shelter than we could of asked questions to know the stitches were still in her. Instead, we waited till we got home to read her paperwork and assumed the stitches were removed because they never said they werent. I feel horrible for not digging deeper into her stay at this shelter but they are responsible for this as well. They need to be more organized and more informed as well as informing their adopters. I am just happy we noticed that something was wrong before the infection gets any worse.

My Girlfriend and I adopted a dog from this shelter about a month ago. I enjoyed the experience, and found everyone to be very easy to deal with, if a little disorganized. It seemed to me like there were a lot of volunteers and maybe 1 or 2 paid employees who were doing all the paperwork, organization, etc. I read some of the negative reviews, and I can see where someone would find it hard to deal with a person being rude, but i didnt encounter anyone rude on my visit. I will say this, it seems to me like they are a bunch of people trying to do something good for animals in need, and they are trying to stretch their budget pretty far to take care of as many animals as possible. the facility wasnt sparkling, and the dogs could all probably use more socialization, and walks, but with a non-profit shelter, something is better than nothing. For those complaining about adopting a dog that does poorly with children, is sick etc. Its a shelter, these dogs are unwanted pets from other families at best, at worst have endured significant abuse. If the shelter intentionally deceives people into thinking they are adopting a healthy dog when they arent, then that is terrible, but if youre dog gets sick, or didnt present symptoms that the shelter observed, its a little unreasonable to expect them to know every detail about a dog. I think they are good people doing the best they can. Our dog has some issues, but we have taken the time and money to get him training, and have worked with him to rehabilitate him. If you dont have the resources, patience, and ability to do so, maybe a shelter dog is not for you.
