My Mother is the woman that is referred to in the gentlemans below review, she passed away on Nov. 24, 2011. I am writing to provide a direct referral that Mary John is an amazing physician. She was a dear friend to our family and was my doctor for many years. I would recommend her services highly. I only stopped seeing her when I moved out of state. Physicians are human beings and unfortunately cannot catch every illness in time for life saving measures. In the gentlemans case, he was at the oncologists office because of my mothers illness and only followed up for a lung screening with a specialist due to my mothers diagnosis. His primary care physician did not catch the illness in the normal course of giving annual care. So it is highly unfair to hold another primary care physician to a different standard. My mothers cancer was diagnosed when she went to the doctor, on her own, and sought medical attention for what she thought was pneumonia after she experienced fatigue and difficulty taking full breaths. I would of course recommend all smokers seek preventative care for lung cancer screenings and become knowledgeable about the symptoms of lung cancer. However, the sad truth is that lung cancer is most often not diagnosed in time. I am only writing this comment because reviews of a professionals services should be accurate assessments of ones abilities. I can personally attest to Mary Johns wonderful bedside manner, great advice, and no nonsense approach to health care. To my mother, I have personal knowledge that she was also a dear friend and a valued colleague for over 30 years. I wish her only the best.

Horrible Physician! I feel Dr. Baxley was responsible for my wifes death. My wife a Pediatrician and heavy smoker who passed away of lung cancer at age 59. Nov. 24th 2011. I have heard, although not a rule, it is a "common sense practice by physicians to require lung x rays of all heavy smokers over the age of 50". My own Dr. saved my life by this practice. During Lung X Rays after age 50, he noticed and monitored a mark on my lung. When my wife had trouble breathing I took her to Duke Cancer Research center where they discovered she had Stage 4 lung cancer. My wife insisted that the review my lung mark and the Oncologist schedule me for immediate surgery stating he did not believe in Scars and opted to cut it out. It was Malignant. Today I am cancer free but my wife, God Bless, her is gone. I strongly urge every one to avoid this so called Dr. Mary Baxley.

Couldnt have a better doctor. Always takes time with me and listens to my concerns. Im a bit perplexed by the lung cancer comment. If you are a heavy smoker, you shouldnt be surprised by lung cancer. The gentleman even mentioned that his own doctor was keeping a eye on something in his own x-ray. Many insurance companies will not cover a routine xray after age 50. For routine chest xrays, it is 60 or 65.

Dr. Mary J. Baxley is a great doctor and does a wonderful job whether I am just getting my annual physical or if I am there because of illness. She is always very knowledgeable and takes her time - I never feel rushed. I would highly recommend Dr. Baxley.
