In Memory of Drake Thomas Nolen 6.20.2014 Warning! Please read before using Temple Terrace Animal Hospitals Euthanasia Services. I am writing this to hopefully spare another pet owner from making a painfully irreversible decision to use this facility for the service of helping their loved pet to be euthanized and pass on peacefully. Our ultimate desire was to use an at home hospice care facility that we had just previously used for Drake’s brother Spencer just two months prior. We could have not asked for something so painful to feel so full of love and peace. All of our dogs were together with their brother and us in our home. We all were at Spencer’s side as he passed on peacefully and painlessly. Unfortunately, the severity of Drake’s illness moved too quickly and it would have seemed cruel to have had him push through the night until his appointment the next morning. The woman I spoke with at Temple Terrace Animal Hospital said they offered a special room and online they spoke of sensitivity in this difficult time and compassion. We didn’t go in there with unrealistic expectations. We knew it wasn’t going to be how we would have truly wanted it but we walked out of there with Drake in our arms and we felt as if they stole the last few minutes of his life from us. The room was lit with the over head fluorescents even though they had a soft glow lamp in the corner that was not even plugged in. They had an empty box of Kleenex on the counter, a dog bed thrown on the floor, and a small couch with pillows. We could have overlooked the lack of serenity that they offered considering it was a last minute emergency decision to use a vet we did not have time to do research into because of the time constraints. What we cannot let go is the fact that Dr. Armstrong who did the procedure did not really talk to us. They came and got him to take him into another room to put a line in. They brought him back after what seemed like an eternity. We at one point had to stick our head out the door and ask if everything was ok because no one had come back to tell us they were having an issue getting his vein. When they did bring him back they set him on the dog bed that was on the floor never bringing his special blanket back with him. Dr. Armstrong never really spoke to us, never explained what she was going to do. I had to ask the questions. She injected the first medication that is to relax the animal and we saw at that point she had a bit of a problem pushing the medicine in the line. We asked if the IV infiltrated to let her know we had some medical knowledge and we know with dachshunds their veins are difficult in the best of circumstances but she explained none of it. In fact I do not think she responded at all. As we were talking to our little boy she administered the final drug and he was gone. She never asked “Are you both ready” Nothing… He was just gone and she stood up said “I am sorry for your loss take your time” and away she went. We just sat there stunned… It was all so cold… We asked for his blanket. We wrapped our little boy up and we got out of there to the car as fast as we could. After something like that the pain is already tremendous without the feeling of being robbed from the compassion they promised, from the chance to say we were ready, and the moments before administering that final drug that takes him completely from us to say goodbye. I do not want to trash the business or the doctor I just want them to offer what they promise and realize that offering sensitivity in this time and move at a pace that is in line with the owner of the animal can make all the difference in feeling the pain of losing a loved one compared to the pain of feeling the life was stolen.

To give one star is too much for this place, My girlfriend recently lost a dog to Pervo after it unfortuntely contracted it and she did everything she could, we took her dog there only to sadly be told that there was noting they could do and that they had to put her down. We continued to bleach the entire house following all instructions on dealing with the virus and keep our other two dogs under close watch, as the next few days went on we noticed our oldest dog start to show early signs of what may have been Pervo, as hard as it is to share these events we lost our precious dog of 5 years to it two nights ago. We received a call and a message left from an unknown employee who told us how we were irresponsible pet owners and how our one and only dog left was probably going to die because we are horrible pet owners. She emailed them a message asking why they would even tell someone whos going through a very emotional time something like that. We have yet to hear a response I would recommend any othe clinic, this place was horrible, rude, and seemed to not even take interest in helping our pups. Although they had received all their shots they insisted we get more? 600$ for shots they already had received? Even afterwards we would hae probably been told that they would not make it? So trick me into giving my doomed dog 600$ shots and then put her down? I am mortified that an establishment like tis actually exist. Take your belvoed pets somewhere else and get them treated the right way, like family, avoid the criticism and go to professionals who actually want to help you.

Let me start this post by saying that we have three rabbits and two cats. We drive an hour away to take our rabbits to a vet across town because he is knowledgable, thorough, attentive, and has never once attempted to gouge or upsell us. In fact, he only charges is the cost of one pet for their annual visit for all three. Says he wishes he could see more rabbits. Bless this mans heart. We will be bringing the cats to him for all future visits. Cut to us becoming cat owners. Saved a feral, got her a sister, fleas made it into the home. We came this vet out of convenience and necessity to get ride of them. We paid the vet cost per pet. Fair. No complaint there, I knew we werent going to get the same fair pricing. Then, the fecal test. Paid for that. Fair. Its worth noting that no one told me this would be an extra cost over the phone, simply advised me to bring a sample. I assumed it was included in the fee. Shady, but my real issue was the level of attention my cats got. We effectively paid $120 for the vet to spend 25 minutes with our cats. She could not wait to be done. As time worn on, her answers became very short and unhelpful. Borderline rude. I had a list of questions to ask (being a new cat mom) and the vet had no interest in going through the basics with me. I get it. I work in a call center. I repeat the same information 60x per day. But no one is paying me $60 an hour for it. Wouldnt recommend them to anyone, unless they were in a desperate position like us and just need meds. Two stars because we got the flea medication we needed.
