If youre considering going here, please read this. This animal hospital killed my cat. Im a BGSU college student who moved off campus last year with my boyfriend-now-fiance. We moved into our apartment with one cat, and decided to get another that December as a sort of Christmas present. Around that time, we started taking both of them to Midway. It was nice at first. They were efficient at getting clients in and out quickly. But even then, looking back, I realize something was up. It took taking one of my cats there twice for them to do anything about his difficulty urinating. The second time, if wed waited any longer, he would have died. They put a catheter in overnight and our cat got better. Hes been fine since, so I can admit to the fact that they saved my cats life. Our second cat, the one we got last December, has always been a little sickly, but over the last month we noticed he was eating less and less, and started losing weight. Worried, we took him in. The first time, he didnt find any problems, but, again, I notice things now I didnt notice then. Ive had cats all my life, and have taken them to the vet plenty of times. Whenever I took them, the vet checked everything--temperature, ears, mouth, teeth, heart, lungs, abdomen--everything. The first time we took him in because of his weight, we also took our other cat because he was having runny feces. The doctor did none of the above with either of them, except check their stomachs for worms. Not to mention, on every single one of my visits, the doctor treated me like I was stupid. A week or so later we took our younger cat in again because hed almost completely stopped eating. This time when the vet checked, he had very pale gums, a sign of anemia. We left him there overnight to be watched and had blood work done. The anemia was confirmed. The next day I picked him up, but because they were trying to close, they rushed me out with a couple cans of food and a syringe to force feed him and gave me no information about the anemia, other than to force feed him and keep him from moving around. They didnt tell me the results of the blood work, aside from confirmed anemia, and they said they thought it was a blood parasite. Later that day when I got home from work, I found our cat collapsed on the floor, panting. In one day his condition, even with a night at this office, went from okay to disastrous. In a panic, I called their emergency number and got growled at for calling after hours. If you have an emergency number, dont get angry if people call you during an emergency. We watched our cat get weaker for the next week and a half. We started doing research on anemia and found out that a blood transfusion was almost required in cases as severe as our cats. Guess what? They didnt mention this once while I was at the hospital. We scheduled an appointment with another vet in hopes of getting a second opinion. That was supposed to be tomorrow. Our cat, Clay, passed away last night, and we are no closer to figuring out what was wrong with him. From what Ive read, it cant be treated without knowing what the underlying cause is. He was only a year and a half old. I dont know where to tell you to go, but dont go to this animal hospital. They might have decent prices, but I dont trust them in emergency situations, and their staff is only in it for the money. They dont care about your pets.

Ive worked most closely with Dr. Martin (although Dr. Kettner is a wonderful vet too) over the past 20 years. His gentle demeanor (with both animals and humans), concern for not just the animals (although that most certainly takes priority), and concern for how his clients is amazing. Hes always very concerned about how a client is handling any news theyve gotten, and tries to help them work through it. (Once he actually pulled a chair up to and let me sleep beside the cage of a pet whod undergone a very difficult - eventually life-ending - surgery, to comfort both myself and the pet). And hes also always concerned that you, as a client, know what you need to know before leaving the office. And an added bonus? (although not why we go there by any means) - - theyre inexpensive. Yes, theyre probably considered, to an extent, a "small country vet"….but theyre very well-informed. and are very willing to look into any means youd like to help your animal feel better. Bottom line - despite being a 35 minute drive now after we moved to Toledo, Ill never take my animals anywhere other than Midway.

I took my Pitt Bull here to have his ears cropped. About a week after this occurred he broke a few stitches. Being concerned, I called the hospital. I was having difficulty getting off work to take him in and asked to send pictures to an email to see if I needed to get the time off. I was told this "wasnt a great idea" because they rarely check the email. Apparently a customer telling them that they are sending a picture isnt cause to check it? They then told me if I could get off work the next day to go ahead and bring him in. I called around 12:45pm, to let them know I was going to try and bring him in as I had gotten a break from work. I was then told that all they had was a 5:15. When I said I couldnt do that, I guess that means that I just cross my fingers that he is okay? The response " OK" and a hang up. I wound up here for this procedure because they were the only ones in my area... I should have researched and driven farther for a clinic that actually cares about my pet. Never been more disappointed.

I have taken both of my cats and my dog to this vet at least once for each pet, and just havent been blown away by the experience. The receptionists arent very friendly and I have met both veterinarians. Neither are very friendly and both made me feel rushed. They didnt give me the opportunity to ask questions on either visit because they abruptly leave. Once I stepped out to ask a receptionist if the doctor was coming back because I had questions and she said the vet had moved on to the next patient. He didnt even say goodbye. I understand its a busy place, but it would be nice if they were a little more personable. It just doesnt seem like anyone cares very much there. Im currently looking for a new place that will treat my animals with more genuine care.

We moved to Virginia a few years ago, but still have family in Ohio. Anytime we have something serious with our animals, we bring them back to Dr. Martin at Midway. This is the best veterinary practice Ive ever used, and considering all the animals we have rescued and cared for, Ive been many places. In addition to the way they care about us and our animals, Dr. Martin has done a stellar job diagnosing some really odd "zebras"-- conditions that are really uncommon, including a case of macadamia nut poisoning and lupus. I would recommend this practice to anyone.

I recently switched my dogs to this practice and have had nothing but great experiences. Dr. Ketner is kind, patient and explains everything thoroughly. Their prices are very reasonable and they have fit us in the same day when needed. I had family visiting from out of state over the Christmas holiday and they even saw my sister in laws dog when he had an eye injury, which saved us a trip to the emergency vet hospital in Toledo. I see negative reviews about the office staff but this has not been my experience at all. So glad our dogs are in their care!
