Phenomenal experience! Jesse Henderson and MotherTree were initially recommended to me during my pregnancy by several labor & delivery nurses. As a physician, I was initially interested in a doula-supported birth experience based on studies which demonstrated the many positive benefits of a doula-supported labor. The more my husband and I spent time with Jesse, the more we realized that the benefits of her support both before, during, and after the birth were immeasurable!! I simply cant say enough wonderful things about Jesse -- she simply radiates warmth and caring and understanding, and has an amazing ability to help YOU sort out your wishes for your birth experience and then support those wishes. Prenatally, our meetings with her were amazing opportunities for my husband and I to explore our feelings about the pregnancy and our hopes for the birth. We also did some of the MotherTree classes which were wonderful. As my due date approached, it was SO reassuring to be able to check in with her. When a medical complication late in my pregnancy resulted in my needing to be induced (instead of the natural labor I had hoped for), Jesse was invaluable in helping my husband and I accept this sudden change in plans and then to create as natural an experience as possible in the hospital. I had such a positive birth experience because of her quiet, amazing support for my husband and I and her advocacy for us within the hospital. Finally, Jesse has been incredible in the postpartum period, helping with everything from breastfeeding to how to use the sling to pumping to wonderful emotional support. I cannot recommend her and MotherTree more highly.

Mother Tree is amazing. We did both a birth class through them that was great and also we choose a doula from their group. Here is a little about our experience with the doula we used, but I am sure all the doulas are fantastic! Jesse is an absolutely amazing doula. We interviewed about four doulas and to us the choice was obvious. While we were immediately impressed with the facts: Jesse has the experience of over 300 births and the knowledge that comes from training other doulas, what decided it for us is Jesses incredible compassion, warmth and strength. Our birth didnt quite go as planned (and I bet almost no births ever do!) but even so, I recently found myself telling a friend that I had exactly the birth I wanted-- even if it wasnt the birth I expected. Jesse went the extra mile for every detail of our birth. For example (one of many): we wanted to have our five year old daughter present at the birth. Jesse found and arranged for a wonderful, Montessori trained, doula-in-training to be our daughters support person. This was the sort of phenomenal support we received from Jesse before, during and after the birth. Really, if you are looking for a doula, shop around. But if you are looking for an intuitive-other-worldly-faerie-of-good-birth-magic-vibes-and-yet-still-practical-but-brilliant-problem-solving, Jesse really is the one to choose.

So Thankful!. I don’t think my husband and I can ever truly thank Jesse for how instrumental she was in bringing our little miracle into the world. We hired Jesse when I was just 4 months pregnant as we wanted to prepare for a natural and low-intervention birth. About 7 months into the pregnancy our path was abruptly redirected as we learned there were some complications with my daughter’s health and my pregnancy became classified as high risk. The weeks that followed were some of the toughest we have ever been through filled with medical test, speculation and diagnosis. Although never the role I envisioned Jesse playing – her support, guidance and strength during this heart-wrenching time was absolutely incredible. The role she played during my pregnancy was completely outside of what we hired her for, but she jumped in, without hesitant and without even being asked. It was as if she knew what we needed before we knew ourselves. Jesse encouraged us to stay connected to our daughter, each other and the best possible outcome during those final weeks. And in the end, that is exactly what we got. Our daughter ended up being absolutely perfect and I got my natural childbirth the second time around with my son. Thank you Jesse!

As a Nurse-Midwife, I had high expectations for our doula. Jesse met and exceeded those expectations. After coming to my labor straight from another long labor and delivery, Jesse hung in there with strength, compassion and ideas for my 33 hour labor. Even after we had to transfer from home to hospital, Jesse was integral to our having a positive birth experience. On top of the incredible support she provided we also have some great birth photography from her. Jesse and MotherTree have continued to offer support after the birth of our son by hosting a mommas group and other activities. Truly an asset to Portlands birthing community. Thanks Jesse and MotherTree!

Jesse was wonderful! We couldnt have asked for a more supportive and knowledgeable doula. We took several of the classes which we found very informative and usefull, and above all they gave us a much needed sense of confidence. We had 2 days of labor at Providence and she worked with us the whole time, only taking 5min breaks now and then. She also visited our house several times, was quick to get back to us with questions, was a wealth of information, and had a good sense of humor. We cant say enough good things about her experience and loving nature. If she is available you should definitely acquire her services.

We found Mothertree through their birthing class taught by Jesse. The class was excellent - warm, nurturing, informative, positive. Because we had such a good experience we asked Jesse to be our doula afterwards. We didnt end up needing a birth coach because of our breech baby, but the postpartum care was a life-saver. Jesse and the other doulas who came to our home and spent the night with our new baby were professional and made this new mom feel comfortable getting some extra, much needed sleep. I would recommend Mothertree for any of their services without hesitation.

We were blessed to have Jesse Henderson as our doula for the births of both our children and we couldnt recommend her or Mother Tree more highly. Jesse was respectful, thoughtful, attentive, and always very caring. She had so much to offer us in terms of support and had a multitude of techniques to help support me before, during, and after our birth. She went above and beyond during my very stressful pregnancy and always greeted me with an open heart and a wealth of compassion. Anyone would be lucky to have her during their own journey through pregnancy and birth.

It is hard to find the words to place a value on what Jesse and Mother Tree did for our family. Her incredible warmth, honesty and compassion made her the perfect doula to guide us through the birth of our twin sons. Anyone would be lucky to have her assist them on the amazing path to motherhood. She is like a breath of fresh air and a big bear hug in one person!

Wendy Scharp is a terrific labor doula. She is very knowledgable and supportive, worked well in a hospital setting and supported my partner in being a better labor support too. We took two birth prep classes at Mothertree taught by Wendy and they were very helpful even though it was my second pregnancy. I highly recommend Wendy Scharp, especially for a VBAC.
