I some how came to this site and read a lot if the comments. So here is mine. Ive had liver surgery and now MS and I have to say I love the drs and surgeon I have. I like that ALL my information is in one place for all my Drs to see. When I had the liver surgery I was in for 5 days. For me I hated the aftermath of the pain etc. But the nurses were compassionate. But being my first time there no one said I had to order my meals. Almost went hungry one night because I couldnt eat.the tomato sauce and they had nothing else. Until a very nice nurse found me something to eat. I was very grateful since I wouldnt have eaten until 8-9 the next morning. If she only knew how happy I was I thanked her but didnt see her again. It the little things people do for you that mean the most!!! But lastly had to go back to emergency room and had to wait FOREVER I was in tears waiting so long it was frigid last winter it was cold in there also. The nurse couldnt get the IV in I was poked so much while in the hospital and now it was so painful again. Ugh It took FOREVER in the back at least I had a room to keep warm. But it was not a good experience hopefully if I ever have to go again it goes a little better. The Drs were nice in emergency but I was there for 5 hours at least and it was a quiet night. Lol I live in NJ but still remain at HUP and thank them for all the GOOD things they have done for me.

Horrible horrible specialist here. Had surgery a few years back and the Penn Hospital, simple dont give a rats @ss about comfort of patient, had a doctor drop the clear bandage on the floor and wanted to still use it. I told him you dropped it he was like it fell on the other side. Yes he did. But then he was like oh you dont need it and proceeded to use gauze tape. Had that happen a few times with the nurses as well when I went for scopes. Dropping IV bandages etc on the floor after it is removed from package and still want to use it. If it werent for some of the Doctors I have which are excellent I would leave. If I have to get surgery here again I need to change insurance so I can keep some doctors and then get treated with by Specialist some where else. God please some doctors dont listen. Will be giving them individual reviews on yelp when I leave there. Cant do it now if I still have to use facilities for now. I wrote to management quite a few times about people not washing their hands when I went in for follow ups exams for surgery or went in for exams. WTH!!!! Nothing but a name only with some very good physicians but thats all hospitals you hit or miss based on the Dcctors you get. If you find a good doctor here God bless you. If not leave at the first sign of trouble dont stay like I did. Or if possible change insurance.

ER was horrible. I took my epileptic daughter there with severe migraine and partial paralysis and she was left on a gurney in the hallway. When she had a seizure, the nurses were quick to act, but then the attending physician saw the commotion, came over, got annoyed, and told everyone, "Were treating her for a migraine, not seizures. Get back to work!" and the nurses promptly scattered. He then told me, "We have people dying here. They take priority over a headache." Fair enough. But why couldnt they have told us that from the start? Why make my child lay in a busy hallway by the nurses station for 3 hours with all the noise exacerbating her migraine, when we could have just gone elsewhere for treatment? Which is what we did. They seemed shocked when we left. Recommendation: always ask the triage nurse how busy they are and how long the expected wait time. If its unacceptable, go elsewhere. Phillys full of great hospitals. Observations on HUP ER: chaotic, disorganized, and mis-managed. Also, parking is a nightmare.

My wife is pregnant and I chose Pennmedicine, 800 Sprouce street for all prenatal checkups and delivery. Biggest problem I have been having with Penn Medicine is that, they will send different types of bill some times from LAB, sometimes from doctor office, sometimes from MFM and sometimes from Pennsylvania hospital. Even though I always go to the one location only for prenatal check ups. They will only ask you to go to different floors in the same building an later and each floor will bill separately. It will be too difficult for you to understand the bill and what they account for. When you want to understand it by calling billing department. They will ask you call individual offices such as doctors office/MFM/LAB/Hospital separately to understand and question about your bills. So remember you dont have just one office who takes care of billing questions/concerns. You will have to deal with 4-5 billing department. I am pitched off with billing service.

I had all my antenatal care here last year and gave birth at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. From the patient point of view, things were OK - during labour, I had a great nurse and the attendee who eventually took over my care was great but the initial attending as well as residents did not take care of my pain for several hours. The 2 stars is mostly for the service afterwards - the billing is HORRIBLE. Not only do you keep getting random bills from different departments for months after the event, when they make mistakes, they do not rectify them. I am a physician, and new to the US. I spotted a mistake with a bill last year, and despite over 10 hours of phone calls, including 3 way calls with my insurance, the hospital still doesnt have it right. Instead of admitting their mistake, they keep inventing new reasons for why the bill needs to be paid. I will not be going here for future care.
