They charged me $512 for a single visit with 2 rabbits WITHOUT ANY HEADS-UP – and they most definitely did NOT provide $512 worth of services. I was sick to my stomach when I left. VCA Fox Chapel is a rip off and they provide a disservice to animals and pet owners. After seeing the breakdown of the bill, I could’t believe how much they charged. The one rabbit is (per statement vet) not going to get better. Yet, he still drew blood and several yelled codes to the techs. He also drew blood from the other bunny and yelled similar codes to the back. Turns out each of these “codes” he yelled back was a blood test for which they charged about $60 a piece. The one bunny also got 2 injections: 0.3 ml of PenG was $41.72 (mind the fact that I have this bottle of PenG at home because the vet put the other bunny on this medication weeks ago, so he should/ could have remembered that, and just let me give the injection at home if that’s what they charge for this! And the whole 100 ml bottle was about $8 at the store) and 0.1 ml (yes, a tiny tiny amount) of Metacam for $43.34. The base consultation is $77 for a bunny. The office manager later told me that I should have just asked about costs during the visit (and kindly offered to put a note on my file that I am a customer who would like to be informed about costs (of course, there will be no next time)). When I explained that I feel that the vet has a responsibility to keep a pet owner posted when he is about to rack up a hefty bill with a bunch of tests, she said that the vet just wanted to be thorough. I think that the vet or the vet tech knew exactly what kind of charges they were incurring and I am so mad and disappointed that they abused the situation. When the check-out lady saw how flabbergasted I was about the bill, she asked if I told the vet I had money trouble. Money trouble? Because I’m not prepared to pay $512 for a single visit? All I can do at this point is warn other people not to go to the Fox Chapel VCA…

01/06/14: I took my rabbit to VCA for a followup exam for a urinary problem. While we were there the hospital lost complete power due to the extreme deep freeze Pgh was experiencing. Dr. Wagner and the techs brought out flashlights and didnt miss a beat. Dr. Wagner is one of the best, if not THE best rabbit vet in PA. Ive been to many in my 20+ years of rabbit experience and working with medical need rabbits from local shelters/charities. Hes my primary rabbit/exotic vet and if you ask the rabbit folks at any of the local shelters, he comes VERY highly recommended. His knowledge and experience surpass any other vet in Pgh - by far. I take great comfort in knowing that my precious little furbaby is in the best hands possible when it comes to low to severely critical illness when in the care of Dr. Wagner and his team. Hes an "aggressive" vet who does whats needed in the best interest of my pet to make sure hes well taken care of, and I wouldnt have it any other way :)

My baby (2 years old) was a patient of VCA when I called them asking for an appointment because he eating or drinking, was lethargic, his gums were dry and light and was peeing blood. They not only told me that they could not "fit him in" until 10 am but they told me that the doctor said that they had to "stick with the schedule". I dont know about you but Im thinking you would want to go to a doctor that can triage your condition properly and treat each patient with care and respect. As you can expect, I did not take the 10 am appointment and took him to an emergency room where he was immediately admitted and diagnosed with IMHA (immune anemia) where his immune system was destroying his red blood cells rapidly. After 3 days in ICU, multiple tests, and (4) blood transfusions I am sad to say that my baby passed away. I hope this helps someone else.

I have taken my various pets to VCA for over 20 years [with a gap of 10 years when I lived elsewhere]. My daughter also takes her pets to VCA and between the two of us VCA has taken care of 10-15 animals. Most have been very healthy but there have also been animals with cancer, hip dysplasia and other significant ailments. Obviously weve been delighted with VCA! At times in the past I had been surprised by the expense - until, that is, I took animals to four other vets in Ohio and Michigan. VCA prices compare favorably to other vets. For me, the most important aspects of a vet are quality of medicine and treatment of the animal. In both these categories VCA Fox Chapel ranks highly with me and with my animals.

I haved lived in many different cities, have visited many different vets, but VCA Fox Chapel is one of my favorite. The two head doctors are outstandingly intelligent and sincere who easily display their love and care for animals. Prices are reasonable and fair, receptionists are always polite and curtious. The only down side would be the lack of substantial parking spaces. But hey, if that is the only complaint, then they are doing extremely well!

Amanda Resek was our doctor when we were getting checkups for our cats and she was amazing. She was very careful and understanding with the cats and knew how to handle our very feisty cat. She also gave us a lot of helpful information and overall I would say that this is the least stressed the cats had been after going to the doctor. Would highly recommend.

He kept saying my dog was going to bite him, yes I have a pitbull, no he was not even barking at the vet. The worst my dog could do is lick you to death.

Love the front desk ladies and vet techs. I see two of the four veterinarians regularly, and they are great. Prices are a little high.

One of the best Vets in the area IMHO. We have taken all of our dogs here and would not consider anyone else for anything major.
