Dr. Perdue is not only way overpriced, but he is far to condescending and curt to be a pediatric dentist. On more than a few occasions he has been short with me as a parent who simply wanted to ask basic questions about options that did not align with his first dental plan for a child. If one of my children had a cavity, he was impatient with me when I asked if it could be due to certain foods they ate (because we were already doing all the "right" things). I found his attitude surprising, but figured he was having a bad day here and there... we all have them. Nope. We gave him 18 months of our time and money with our children, and his "haughty" attitude came out on many many occasions. The last straw was after my 6 year old had his first cavity, (keeping in mind that all of my children are EASY dental patients, laying perfectly still and never scared). He "suggested" that my son take this liquid that makes him "drowsy" before the visit. We did this and my child did fine through the procedure. On the way home, he told me that the way it made him feel scared him. So, when this filling fell out one year later, I told them that we did not want to take the liquid because I was uncomfortable with how the drug reacted with my son. I explained that he is an intelligent child and he wanted to try it with just the novicain shots first. Dr. Perdue said that they DO NOT treat any child without the valium first... "BECAUSE... children dont know how to behave in the chair." His second option was to take him to the hospital and put him under anesthesia in order to fill the cavity. I was shocked at his EXTREME response to my request. I calmly suggested that he just give it a try first, and if my son seemed to have problems, THEN he could stop, give him the liquid drug, and try again with the local shots a little later. He said, "HE (note the emphasis) does not do this kind of thing. They dont have the time for it. It will not work. This is their policy." I expressed my REAL concern that the only other option he was giving was putting my child UNDER anesthesia. He promptly blew me off saying "parents do this all the time when we have children like this who will not do well in the chair." I reminded him that my 7 year old son does fine in the "chair" and after all of this discussion is STILL not even remotely acting concerned about the shots... just the feeling this drug has on him. (keep in mind my son and other children are with me during this "visit") So, I walked out of there to get a second opinion. I took his chart and walked into a couple dentists that day and called others on the phone. Not only did I find that all the dentists and pediatric dentists say that they would be fine with my son not having valium before the shots... ALL of them said that they always do this first UNLESS the parent indicates that the child has had a bad experience in the past. BTW - I had the itemized charges for this "procedure" Dr. Perdue wanted to do on my son, too. The first office I went to was surprised that the charge for this drug "required" by Dr. Perdue was more than triple what they charged "IF" they used the drug. I found that many other patients of Dr. Perdue have found their way to these other dentists because of similar experiences as ours. Sorry for the long review... I just felt really concerned for other families who might feel bullied, too. Go with your instincts the first time. I should have. NOTE: his dental staff was always nice and patient with our family.

In my opinion "Dr." Perdues only concern is how much he can bill ones insurance for. Even if its at the cost of your childrens oral health. There is a reason why every Friday hes at Vanderbilt hospital putting CHILDREN to sleep and performing unnecessary procedures on them. Which he did with both of my children. He claims that it has to be done, and like most con artists, he is convincing. But after his shoddy work started to show after only 6 months, he suggested that he put my 5 year old daughter under for a SECOND time. Thats when we finally pulled our heads out of our behinds and came to the realization that hes not interested in our kids welfare whatsoever, only the money that he can make by exploiting them. The pied piper of pediatric dentistry who lures your children into his lair with Xbox and play station at the ready for them. On top of everything else, he and almost every person that works for him, are just downright rude and act they are better than you. Not only that, his work sucks. He has no talent or skill that one could excuse or overlook his condescending attitude for. DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS TO SEE THIS MAN. You will almost certainly regret it as I am. Think about this, a single dentist practice? Thats almost unheard of. Especially when its a pediatric dentist whose workload in a such a family oriented community has to be through the roof. That suggests to me that hes simply greedy. Please heed my advice and drive a little further if you have to. Just avoid him at all cost.

My children have been with this dentist for almost 3 years. The first year was great, after that.. Everything has changed. A couple times with two of my other kids, we missed due to certain circumstances. Their policy has change sometime at the end of 14 or the beginning the year 15, mainly to get more money from you with their 24 hour window or 48 hour. My husband was also very concerned about sedating our 5 year old 3 different times now just to fix a cracked baby tooth that is actually healthy from what the other dentist said. Just chipped at the bottom. But my main rant is that, we recently received a letter from them telling us that they are no longer able to come to their office anymore over me canceling at the last min appointment. One of my children has caught streptococcal pharyngitis from school. The next day was the appointment. All of my children appointments were canceled and it states a certain part "due to missed appointments without proper 48 hour notification? I thought the 48 hour was mainly for sedation. The one that got sick was only going in that day for a cleaning, which that one is a 24 hour notice. "so which one is it?". The only silly snarky thing I can say about that is, I should of let em went and got sick on everyone huh? Never again will any of my children go there! And anyone I know, I will tell them to never go there! Two out of a few other staffs there are very rude and terrible towards parents, including me.

When Doctor Perdue informed me that my 5 year old had two cavities I was shocked. Since the birth of my son, I have worked very hard to maintain excellent oral hygiene for him. When I asked Dr. Perdue what could have caused this, his response was cavalier and dismissive. He simply told me that "most kids get cavities and that I shouldnt worry about it". He made me feel like I was being ridiculous for even asking questions about it. He hurried me up front where they had already drafted a "treatment plan" which included a cost estimate of $381.00. Since I was already questioning how my son could possibly have two cavities, I told them I would think about it and get back with them. I then proceeded to visit two additional pediatric dentists (both of whom are very reputable in the area). Without telling them about my sons dental history or supposed cavities, they both examined him and one did the panoramic x-rays of his mouth. Both dentists said he did not have ANY cavities and that his mouth looked very healthy. Needless to say, I have found a new pediatric dentist. She doesnt make me feel silly for asking questions and the best part is that I feel like I can trust her. I wont be back to see Dr. Perdue.
