I was looking for a new vet for my 2 cats, Willie and Bella, and after reading reviews I decided on AMSH. Willie had not been eating as usual and I had a hunch he was having a problem with his teeth so I made an appt. to see Dr. Marcum. The front desk was friendly and the wait time to see the dr was acceptable. I did find it odd that they didn’t ask me to fill out any new patient paperwork. Dr. Marcum examined Willie and concluded that he needed to have his teeth cleaned along with possibly 1-2 extractions. He said he wouldn’t know for sure the extent of the work until “he” was actual doing the procedure and could assess the situation. He also suggested a complete blood profile to make sure there was nothing else going on and that he was healthy for the surgery, which I agreed to. He provided me with an estimate that included a low and high amount. We set up the surgery for first thing the next morning and he told me he would call me that afternoon around 4:30 to let me know the results of the blood profile so that I knew all was ok to bring Willie in the next morning. Here’s where things start to go downhill…by 7pm I had still not heard back about the results of the blood profile so I called. Someone answered and stated she would give Dr. Marcum the message to call me. About an hour later he finally called and said all was ok to proceed. I have no way of knowing if he would have called without me calling first, but all I can do is give him the benefit of the doubt. The next morning when I arrive to check him in I’m told by front desk that there was no record of Willie being scheduled for surgery that day. After about 10 min. of dialog and explanation he is finally checked in. I apprehensively leave him there for his surgery. About 2 hours later Im informed the surgery is over and that I can come and pick him up. I arrive and am escorted to a room to speak with who I assume will be Dr. Marcum since he led me to believe that he would be doing the surgery. Much to my surprise Dr. Tillery comes in and starts talking about the surgery. He never introduced himself but I saw his name on his lab coat. He mentioned he did the surgery…oh REALLY…shouldn’t I have known this before they passed off my pet to someone else that I’ve never even met?? He also made a casual comment that he “inherited” Willie. I interpreted that as meaning Dr. Marcum didn’t want him, or realized he didn’t have time for him, and therefore passed him off without my knowledge or consent. I had never felt so unimportant, unwelcomed, and frankly taken advantage of in all my life. After Dr. Tillery finished he said they would get Willie for me. A few minutes later a girl walks in carrying Willie in his pet carrier and rather than carrying it with her hand for stability she has the handle looped around the bend in her arm by the elbow and the carrier is tilted somewhat on it’s side (guess that’s how they treat an animal thats just had surgery). She sets it down on the table and clearly states, “here’s your cat you can leave now”. She immediately then walks out of the room and leaves me standing there. I am just totally in awe at this point and to think that they benefited from the almost $600 I just paid them. It just doesn’t feel like a fair exchange for the poor treatment that Willie and I received. In the end, I’m most concerned that Willie is going to be ok, and by the way, it was almost 2 full days later before they called to ask how he was doing...I guess that really sums it up! As upset as I am, I’ve really tried to convey my thoughts without letting too much of the anger and emotion cloud an honest, accurate review of my experience. The saving grace is that Willie probably has no idea of the poor treatment he received and I’m happy to carry that burden for him as he’ll love me unconditionally as if it never happened. I hope this is helpful in assisting you with the tough decision of choosing someone you trust to take care of your pets. Sylvia Smith

The worst vet ever, Dr. Larry Marcum. I came into this office for a yearly check up with my rescue pit-bull. He was very loud and was barking at everything and everyone. After being asked to wait out side, I was finally put into a room. While waiting for the Dr. I got him poking his head in at me yelling at me to control my dog. Then the nurse finally came in and I muzzled my dog so that they could examine him. In the middle of the examination, I get lucky enough to have Dr. Larry Marcum yelling at me (in front of my 3 children who are with me) saying I have a liability of a dog and that he knows what kind of people have these dogs and that he has stitched up enough ears to know what people do with theses dogs, and that my dog could hurt my children, and what if he gets out of the fence.. If I remember correctly, I rescued him from this type of environment so that would make me the good person. Not the stereo type that he tries to categorize me in... Oh... and once I got him back in the room, guess who MAX went to.... thats right the 3 children who were crying in the office b/c their mom just had to fight with the Dr. Hope this review will shed some light as to what Dr. LARRY MARCUM THINKS OF CUSTOMERS WHO RESCUE PITBULL... we must all be the same. I will be pulling my 3 dogs from that facility and going else where. I dont need to do business with a vet like this... DO NOT GO HERE EVER!!!!!!!!

Dr. Marcum has been our vet for over 10+ years now. After each visit I always tell myself that Ill leave them a personal great review but with young twins, I never seem get around to it. So this review has been long overdue. Dr. Marcum has always put his heart and his soul into his work. Often times, when I bring my lab in, Im taken back by how he goes the extra mile for her. From start to finish, the experience was top notch. Beautiful, clean office, friendly front desk staff, awesome vet tech and a patient, thorough and kind doctor. Dr. Marcum always listens to me talk about my dogs behavior before making any diagnoses. After all, I know my girls behavior better than anyone and I always know when shes not feeling good. Dr. Marcum talked with me, never once making me feel rushed or foolish & he didnt try to talk me into anything my girl didnt need. Dr. Marcum has ALWAYS done right by me (and my pups); including once saving my late chihuahuas life by IMMEDIATELY getting him into a head trauma specialist. He is a stand up individual and my appreciation for him is beyond words. Without hesitation, I recommend Dr. Marcum and Animal Medical & Surgical Hospital of Frisco. Give them a shot, you will see why so many people hold this establish to such high regard. My name is David Gray and anyone can reach out to me for reference.
